Alarming strange shadows in pictures of floods

KANGAR, Thursday 2 December 2010 - Residents took pictures of flood victims throwing nets and fishing on the roads at Jalan Raja Syed Alwi were alarmed by the strange phenomenon of a figure standing in the picture.

Cai Hua-luan showed his photos to the Guang Ming Daily on Tuesday 30 November and said that when the flood water reached the thighs, they saw a lot of freshwater fishes swimming in the water, so he decided on a whim to throw nets and fish just in front of his house.

He said that it was just evening at that time and his neighbour Mr Chan was using a small video camera to film the flood situation. At the same time, he also took pictures of him fishing. Subsequently Mr Chan turned on his computer to view the photos and he had a fright when he saw a strange shadow in the photo of Cai fishing. He showed the photo to the other neighbours and everyone felt equally incredulous.

Cai Hua-luan disclosed that as his neighbour took the shot from across, as such he believed that the shadow could not be his reflection. Also as Mr Chan was taking it from a far distance, the shadow would also not be his reflection (Mr Chan).

Scientist says he found Japan fish thought extinct

TOKYO (AP) -- A Japanese salmon species thought to be extinct for 70 years is alive and well in a lake near Mount Fuji, a science professor said Wednesday.

The black kokanee, or "kunimasu" in Japanese, was thought to have died out in 1940, when a hydroelectric project made its native lake in northern Akita Prefecture more acidic.

Before then, 100,000 eggs were reportedly transported to Lake Saiko but the species was still thought to have died off.

But Tetsuji Nakabo, a professor at Kyoto University, said his team of researchers found the species in Lake Saiko, about 310 miles (500 kilometers) south of the native lake

10 classic types of Aliens

by Joan Seth

Throughout history, there have been numerous reports and sightings of Extraterrestrial life, dating from ancient prehistoric times to modern ages. But are they real? Are they coming? Or are they already among us?

If so, it would make sense to know about the various species of extraterrestrials first to prepare beforehand, wouldn't it?

1. Little Green Men

Little Green Men is the stereotypical portrayal of extraterrestrials as little humanoid-like creatures with green skin and/or antennae on their heads. The term is also sometimes used to describe gremlins, mythical creatures known for causing problems in airplanes and mechanical devices. They were the most common type of extraterrestrials encountered.

This term came into popular usage in 1955, where two rural Kentucky men described a supposed encounter with 3-4 foot (1 m) tall greenish, somewhat humanoid-looking aliens. Many newspaper articles then used the term little green men in writing up the story.

However, since, they have been replaced by the Grey aliens as the most common type of encounters. Little Green Men have since fallen out of general use in serious science fiction circles and are typically only used by the uninformed or to ridicule the notion that aliens may exist

2. Dropa Alien

According to Chi Pu Tei, professor of archeology at Beijing University, in 1938 he and his students were on an expedition to explore a series of caves in the Bayan Kara Ula range of the Himalayan mountains, near Qinghai region.

The explorers are said to have found many neat rows of tombs with short 138 cm skeletons buried within. The skeletons had abnormally big heads, and small, thin, fragile bodies. A member of the team suggested that these might be the remains of an unknown species of mountain gorilla.

There were no epitaphs at the graves, but instead hundreds of 30 cm wide stone discs - referred to as Dropa Stones. Each stone disk was said to be inscribed with two fine grooves spiraling from the edge to a hole in the disk's center, resembling the Phaistos Disk. The disks were labeled along with other finds of the expedition and stored away at Beijing University for 20 years, during which deciphering attempts were unsuccessful.

3. Andromedan Alien

The Andromedans are the name given to what are said to be a group of "ascended" extraterrestrials or "space aliens" from the Andromeda Galaxy (2 million light years away from Earth).

They are traditionally depicted as a lifeform of pure energy - an energy being. Rather than being literally composed of energy in the physical sense, energy beings are typically rendered as being composed of a translucent glowing fluid, somewhat in common with the representations of ghosts.

Andromedans have been described as being "very beautiful," and as well, lithely built and very thin. Contactee testimony also further describes this race as, "so spiritually evolved that they no longer require a physical body. They are almost beings of light energy. They are illuminated in light. They are very tall and stand eight to ten feet in height. In mythology, they were referred to as the Winged gods."

It is also said in some literary circles that Andromedans are peaceful and have been helping out Earth's inhabitants for many generations.

4.Hairy Dwarf

Hairy dwarfs are a variety of hairy humanoid that is shorter than the average human. Unlike the more normal types of hairy humanoid such as Bigfoot, hairy dwarfs are technologically adept. In reported sightings, hairy dwarfs often wear clothing, use tools, and can even speak.

In fact, they are often associated with UFOs. In the early days of the UFO craze, witnesses often reported that the aliens were hairy dwarfs instead of the classic "grays" that seem to be most popular today. In time, hairy dwarf reports became much less common. Hairy dwarfs are hardly ever reported today.

Because of their association with UFOs and high technology, hairy dwarfs are generally kept separate from another miniature Bigfoot-type creature, the proto-pygmy, a creature that has behaviors more typical of a mystery primate or primitive human. Sometimes hairy dwarfs are linked with reports of larger hairy humanoids that are either reported as occupying UFOs or are seen in the same areas as UFOs and only when a current UFO scare is underway. Some of these larger hairy humanoids are quite bizarre, including even such things as werewolves.

Hairy dwarfs are rarely investigated by researchers working in the field of cryptozoology. They sound pretty silly, for one thing. Also, they seem to be part of a different field of rogue science, ufology. Most cryptozoologists would rather let the ufologists take care of hairy dwarfs.

5. Hopkinsville goblin

The Hopkinsville goblin was described by witnesses in 1955 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky as creatures which looked similar to Gremlins or Goblins. They were said to be around 3 feet tall, with upright ears and thin limbs with claws. They were silver in color (or wearing a metallic costume) and they were able to "walk as if they were floating above ground"

These witnesses claimed to have shot at these creatures with firearms, with no effect. The local law enforcement arrived to investigate and found no signs of the creatures, but extensive damage to the houses' surroundings and grounds. All the witnesses (around a dozen of them) stuck to the same story even many years later.

Many experts who conducted investigations believe that an incident really did occur in Hopkinsville, and no sign of a hoax was ever proven. These events were regarded seriously by the US government (as the witnesses included policemen and state troopers. The US Air Force even conducted its own investigations. The Hopkinsville Goblins Case remains one of the most well-known and well-documented cases in the history of UFO incidents, and a favorite for study in ufology.

6. Flatwoods monster

The more common description of the Flatwoods monster depicts it as at least 10 feet tall with a glowing red face and green body. The head is shaped like a "heart or Ace of Spades" and the body was clad in something looking like a skirt. Some accounts record that the creature had no visible arms, while others describe it as having short, stubby arms; ending in long, claw-like fingers, which protruded from the front of its body.

The first sighting occurred in Flatwoods, West Virginia in 1952. A group of kids witnessed a bright object in the sky. They went back to get the mother of one of the kids and together with other local children (including a National Guardsman), they set out to investigate.

When they arrived at the location (a hill), they reported seeing a large pulsating "ball of fire" and underneath a tree, the Flatwoods monster. It hissed and charged at them, and the group fled in panic. Later on, some of the witnesses became stricken with sickness.

The Committee for Skeptical Inquiry (CSI) investigated this case 48 years later, and concluded that the likely source for the object spotted in the sky was a meteor. Furthermore, based on descriptions of the creature, it was likely to have been a barn owl, which face shape closely resembles that of the creature.

7. Reptilians

Alien abduction narratives sometimes allege contact with reptilian creatures. One of the earliest reports was that of Ashland, Nebraska police officer Herbert Schirmer, who claims to have been taken aboard a UFO in 1967 by humanoid beings with a slightly reptilian appearance, who bore a "winged serpent" emblem on the left side of their chests.

So what are these creatures? The general description is that they are humanoid aliens who have a reptilian appearance, similar to a lizard or snake. Writer David Icke alleges that these aliens are from the Alpha Draconis star system, hiding in underground bases in Hollow Earth. He also claims that the reptilians are plotting to take over the world through manipulation and generation of fear and negative emotion. However, not many people take his theories seriously.

Reptilian

[THE REPTILIANS]

8. Sirians

The Dogon tribe resides in Mali, West Africa. They have been researched and visited extensively by experts. The general consensus is that the Dogon people somehow acquired and possess extensive knowledge of astronomy and technology. It was said in 1946, that they knew about Sirius B, the companion binary star to Sirius A (the brightest star in the observable sky) and its orbital period. However, Sirius B was a white dwarf, invisible to the naked eye and the Dogon simply did not have the technology to observe it. These people were also said to know about rings of Saturn and moons of Jupiter.

Bear in mind the Dogon were a primitive tribe of hunters and gatherers, so how did they know? It was said that the ancestors of the Dogon people were visited by aliens from Sirius. These aliens passed on their knowledge to the humans. These knowledge was then passed down from generation to generation.

However, skeptics have concurred that the Dogon probably acquired the astronomical knowledge from modern sources and incorporated them into their folklore and legends. It was entirely possible that modern day French explorers had visited them and told them of the knowledge, maybe around the year 1893.

9. Nordic Aliens

This is an interesting depiction of extraterrestrials. In this case, the aliens are said to behave and look entirely similar to humans and are extremely good looking. They closely resemble Nordic Scandinavians with white pale skin, blue eyes, blond hair and around 6 to 8 feet tall.

One example of an encounters was from George Adamski. He was one of the first contactees to report a description of a blonde-haired UFO occupant. On 20th November 1952, he reportedly met and spoke with a being from Venus called Orthon, after seeing a UFO in Arizona.

Adamski said Orthon communicated with him via telepathy and through hand signals and warned him of the dangers of nuclear war and to have arranged for Adamski to be taken on a trip to see the solar system including the planet Venus.

This was the traditional cultural depiction of these aliens. They were peaceful, serene and often spread messages of peace and condemning violence. They warned of the dangers of what eventually might happen to Earth if humans continued their atomic weapons research and war-faring ways. Encounters or "abductions" by them usually resulted in a peaceful meeting and communication, rather than the witnesses being subject to painful experiments.

There is also a theory that these aliens are the actual depiction of the hypothetical Aryan race of people, a race of people with superior attributes and genes (unfortunately pursued to extreme ends by the Nazis during World War II).

Nordic Aliens

[Nordic Aliens]

10. Greys

The Greys are the most common subject of all UFO, Extraterrestrial, Alien Abduction theories and events. They are a popular sight in the mass media too, appearing in movies, TV shows and video games. In fact, Grey Aliens are now often described as the true species of extraterrestrials. They have sinister motivations (either to colonize Earth or create Alien/Human hybrids to repopulate their world. Greys are also said to have abducted the most number of humans.

They are humanoid in appearance, with big bald heads, small bodies and limbs. They are commonly not clothed and barefoot. The distinguishing aspect of their appearance is their big dark opaque eyes (with no irises) and dark grey skin, with no visible ears, nostrils or hair.

In 1947, Roswell, New Mexico, several witnesses claimed to have seen a crash involving a flying saucer and that several dead bodies which appeared to be Grey Aliens were taken by the US Military. These individuals claimed that the corpses had over-sized heads and slanted eyes.

In 1961, a couple, Betty and Barney Hill were supposedly abducted by Greys and taken to their UFO. Aboard the ship, Betty Hill was given a tour by the aliens (who communicated telepathically) and was shown a star chart which was said to be the home world of the Greys. Later on, Marjorie Fish, a amateur astronomer, realized that the star chart drawn by Betty Hill was in fact, the Zeta Reticuli star system. Since then, Greys are also sometimes known as Zeta Reticulans.

In 1995, Ray Santilli claim to have possession of a film which depicted the autospy of a Grey alien which was recovered from the 1947 UFO crash site of Roswell. Subsequently, he failed to produce any evidence of the original film, claiming the original was worn beyond recovery and what he had was a reconstruction of the original. Skeptics have quickly dismissed his video as a hoax, pointing out many inconsistencies and inaccuracies in the video.

In one of the best depictions of their dark and sinister nature was in the TV series, The X Files. The main plot of the series was to prove the existence of these Grey Aliens and their plot to colonize and take over Earth in 2012. Greys also appear in Stargate SG-1 in the form of the Asgard, a highly advanced ally of the Stargate Command (SGC). In the TV series Babylon 5, aliens similar to the Greys are known as the Vree, the Streibs and the Zener.

Another aspect of their dark nature is their attempt to create a Grey/Human hybrid. It is said that their home planet has been ravaged and their species are dying out; thus their search across the Universe to find suitable subjects to create a new species to repopulate their own.

In fact, their sinister intentions have also been reported by abductees who were taken by other types of aliens (e.g. the Nordic Aliens). In these encounters, the peaceful aliens warn the abductees about the Greys and their violent nature. Greys have also been linked to New World Order conspiracy theories and End of the World scenarios.

Are they already among us? Or are they still visiting us? We may never know the truth.

China Baffled By 'Alien' Pyramid, Pipes & Caves

BEIJING, China -- A team of Chinese scientists is to head out to the far west of the country to investigate a mystery pyramid that local legend says is a launch tower left by aliens from space.

Nine scientists will travel this month to probe the origins of the 50-60 meter (165-198 ft) tall structure -- dubbed "the ET relics" -- in the western province of Qinghai, China's state-run Xinhua agency said on Wednesday.

The mystery pyramid sits on Mount Baigong, has three caves with triangular openings on its facade and is filled with red-hued pipes leading into the mountain and a nearby salt water lake, Xinhua said.

Rusty iron scraps, pipes and unusually shaped stones are scattered around the inhospitable and largely uninhabited area, it said.

ET theory

A research fellow at a nearby observatory of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Yang Ji, told Xinhua the theory the pyramid was created by extra terrestrials was "understandable and worth looking into."

"But scientific means must be employed to prove whether or not it is true," Yang said.

Xinhua has not given any details on the age of the structure, or any other possible explanations for it.

The Close Encounters of Extraterrestrial Contact

by Joan Seth

A close encounter is described as an event in which a person or persons witnesses an unidentified flying object. This system of classification was created by astronomer and UFO researcher J. Allen Hynek in his 1972 book, The UFO Experience: A Scientific Inquiry.

He introduced the first three kinds of encounters; the later sub-types of close encounters were later added by others. Here, we take a look at the first three kinds of Close Encounters by Hynek and the later found kinds added by others.

Close Encounters of the First Kind

This is probably the most common type of close encounter. It just refers to a sighting of Unidentified Flying Objects in the sky. Sometimes these can be plainly attributed to astronomical or meteorological phenomenon, aircraft or animals.

The Rex Heflin UFO photograph

Close Encounters of the Second Kind

For A Close Encounter of the Second Kind, the subject observes the sighting of an UFO and its associated effects. These could include crop circles, terrain damage, traces of heat and/or radiation, human paralysis, lost time or electrical interference.

A common trait in many human abduction accounts are that usually they will be travelling in a vehicle or aircraft, and a sighting of an UFO will cause their instruments or mechanical components of their vehicles to malfunction. Next, they will experience what is termed as "missing time", e.g. a half hour drive home will turn into 3 hours, with the subject not having any recollection of the extra "missing" hours.

Many believe these subjects were abducted and brought onto the UFOs by extraterrestrials, which brings us to the Fourth Close Encounter.

A crop circle in Switzerland

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

In this case the witness claims not to have only observed an UFO, but possibly its occupants as well, which refers to Extraterrestrials.

This form of close encounter usually takes the form of the witness either happening upon the alien craft and its occupants in the vicinity of one another or firstly seeing the aliens themselves engaged in some form of activity and later also bearing witness to the alien craft taking off and departing from the vicinity.

Most rare in this category are reports of people witnessing alien craft in flight with occupants visible through some kind of window or aperture in the craft itself.

Ilkley Moor Extraterrestrial Sighting

Close Encounters of the Fourth Kind

A close encounter of this kind is perhaps the most infamous of all. Often deeply traumatic in nature and predominantly committed with no regard of any kind for the wishes of the abductee, reported close encounters of this kind exploded in numbers in the latter decades of the 20th Century.

In most cases an abductee will be spirited away while alone, most commonly while sleeping or driving alone late at night and returned within the space of anything from hours to days later. Most are isolated incidents, but there have been reports of recurring abductions of some subjects by the same entities time and time again.

Though group abductions have been reported, these remain in a distinct minority. In some cases the victim will bear witness to the whole experience from start to finish and in others details will be vague and only revealed through the use of hypnotic regression.

Abductees almost universally report that once in the power of their captors they are subjected to examination and study of an intrusive nature. The object of these examinations has been speculated upon wildly, throwing up suggestions from simple scientific curiosity to a sinister plan to create a race of human/alien hybrids for use as a slave race.

Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind

This kind of close encounter features the hallmarks of many of the others, but also requires one element that the others lack which sets it apart. In a Close Encounter of the Fifth Kind, as well as coming into contact with extraterrestrials, the witness also achieves communication of one kind or another with those beings.

The nature of the communication may be verbal or telepathic and there is of course no guarantee that the information exchanged will be of a positive or constructive nature. Some contactees also claim to have regular contact with extraterrestrials much like having regular phone conversations with a friend.

Close Encounters of the Sixth Kind

This refers to an encounter where contact with an UFO or extraterrestrials results in direct injury or death for the witness. This is very rare, but evidence suggests that the disappearance Of Frederick Valentich may be caused by a UFO.

Valentich was a trainee pilot who reportedly spotted a UFO during a training flight in 1978. After observing it for a while, he was not heard from again. No trace of him or his airplane was ever found.

[The Disappearance Of Frederick Valentich]

Close Encounters of the Seventh Kind

This last encounter, the Close Encounters of the Seventh Kind describes a mating between a human being and extraterrestrial that produces a human-alien hybridisation, usually called a Star Child.

This concept was similar to ideas promoted by ancient astronauts theorists like Erich von Däniken, Zecharia Sitchin and Robert K.G. Temple, in that extraterrestrials interacted with, perhaps interbred with and influenced ancient human beings in the past.

The Starchild Skull, which was discovered in 1930 in Chile, is said to be the remains of a human/alien hybrid. Carbon dating has traced its age to about 900 years old, while DNA testing was inconclusive, at best, experts declared that the skull does contain human DNA.

As the skull does not have any clear indication that it looked and belonged to a human, UFO theorists speculated that it was the remains of a human/alien hybrid. On the other hand, experts think that this could just be the remains of a human who was physically deformed or had some mental disability.

Could the Mande Burung of India be a relic Gigantopithecus?

Master Oregon Note: The Gigantopithecus is an extinct genus of ape that existed from roughly one million years to as recently as three-hundred thousand years ago, while the Mande Burung is a cryptid, allegedly found in India. It resembles a large ape-like creature.

by Adam Davies

I have started looking through my notes now, and the detailed interviews we conducted with eyewitnesses to the creature, and I thought I would share a few facts with you from them. Firstly, it appears to be omnivorous, and seems to make the most of its environment’s food sources… I was told it has been sighted in pineapple plantations. One of the eyewitnesses described how he had seen a mother and baby eating bamboo. Secondly it displays aggression. For example, another witness told how he had been chased out of a bamboo plantation. Could this have been a mock charge, in a similar fashion to the Gorilla?

Before I entered the jungle, I was also told by one of the forest guides that it ate freshwater crabs and I subsequently found what appeared to be MB prints, turned over rocks, and crab shells in a small stream. All described the creature as being huge, at least 9 feet tall, it seems, and covered in black hair. The consistency of the descriptions from the witnesses, especially under the scrutiny I gave them, was very encouraging.

Cancer cells killed Henrietta Lacks - then made her immortal

By Denise Watson Batts
The Virginian-Pilot
© May 10, 2010

Sonny Lacks is known for his smile. Wide and welcoming, it’s a feature that others tell him he shares with his mother.

He wishes he knew that for himself, but he was only 4 when she died.

On a recent Monday afternoon, Sonny and his older brother, Lawrence, sat at a dining room table in Baltimore and examined sketches of what will be their mother’s tombstone. They’ve never had enough money for one. Finally, after all these years, a gift will allow their mother to be remembered as they want her to be.

Lawrence looked at the images but said little. He doesn’t like talking about the mother he lost when he was 16.

“Don’t know why; I never could,” he said, taking off his glasses and rubbing his moist eyes. “I just can’t.”

The course of their lives changed in 1951 when their mother visited what was then Johns Hopkins Hospital, just 20 minutes down the road from where her boys now live. It was there that doctors discovered her strange illness and removed mysterious cells from her body.

The sons are one legacy of Henrietta Lacks – a poor woman from the tobacco fields of south-central Virginia. The other is this: Her cells are still multiplying ferociously nearly six decades after her death. They have led to medical miracles such as the vaccine for polio and have produced millions of dollars in revenue for others.

The family’s great loss has become the world’s great gain.

He settles on a unique pet in a Chinatown curio shop–a cute, furry creature known as a Mogwai. Before he leaves, he is warned by the shop’s owner that three rules must be obeyed by a Mogwai owner: 1) Keep it away from bright light, 2) Don’t get it wet, and 3) Never, ever feed it after midnight.

Despite the innocuous rules, Billy loves his adorable new pet, naming it Gizmo and taking it everywhere he goes. Unfortunately, he and his friends also begin breaking the rules of Mogwai care. When water is accidentally spilled on Gizmo, it causes him to multiply and produce a number of mischievous little brothers. Among these is the mean-tempered Stripe. Soon enough, the new Mogwai get hold of some food after midnight and this causes them to change from cute fur-balls into nasty, scaly monsters dubbed ‘Gremlins.’

He is scarred as a boy when he learns that Santa is, much to his chagrin, not real. Throughout the rest of his life, the toy-maker tries to make the Christmas spirit a reality. He becomes obsessed with the behavior of children and the quality of the toys he makes. When he is met with hypocrisy and cynicism, the resulting snap causes him to go on a yuletide killing spree to complete this dark comedic horror.

Klosterman's Theory: Did Radiohead's Kid A Predict 9/11?

Picture is (C) copyright to Parlophone, Capitol

The passage below is the perfect example of what sleep deprivation does to the mind. This actually dates back to a couple of months ago, but the topic came up recently when I was having dinner with some friends of mine, so I thought I'd dust it off and put it up here (for people to scoff at).

So, I know it has only just hit bookstore shelves (I found a review copy of it at work --- on the discard pile -- and read it), but in Chuck Klosterman's new book, "Killing Yourself to Live", he goes into great detail about how he feels that the sequence of Radiohead's Kid A (originally released on October 3, 2000) is eerily prescient with regards to the events of September 11, 2001. He's not suggesting that Thom Yorke is some sort've Nostrodamus, but this seemingly crackpot theory definetely made me want to listen to the album again.

From Chuck's text....any spelling mistakes are my own.....

Stegosaurus Carving on a Cambodian Temple?

Young earth creationists Don Patton, Carl Baugh, and some of their associates and followers have argued that a stone carving on the wall of the Ta Prohm temple in Cambodia was based on a live Stegosaurus dinosaur seen by the artist. There are problems with this interpretation, even aside from extensive evidence that humans did not appear on earth until at least 60 million years after non-avian dinosaurs* went extinct.

First, the image in question differs in several significant ways from actual stegosaurs. Second, the main evidence for the Stegosaurus interpretation consists of a row of lobes along the back of the carving animal. Although superficially resembling the bony back plates of stegosaurs, there are a number of alternate explanations, including the possibility that they merely represent background vegetation or decorative flourishes, similar to many others on and around other carvings on the temple.

The lobes may also represent exaggerated dorsal spines of a chameleon or other lizard. When all features and factors are considered, the carving is at least as compatible with a rhinoceros or chameleon as a stegosaur. Moreover, even if it represents a stegosaur, the carving could have been based on fossil remains rather than the artist seeing a live stegosaur.

Shambhala - The Mythical Kingdom

For thousands of years rumors and reports have circulated that somewhere beyond Tibet, among the icy peaks and secluded valleys of Central Asia, there lies an inaccessible paradise, a place of universal wisdom and ineffable peace called Shambhala. Legends say that only the pure of heart can live in Shambhala, enjoying perfect ease and happiness and never knowing suffering, want or old age. Love and wisdom reign and injustice is unknown.

The inhabitants are long-lived, wear beautiful and perfect bodies and possess supernatural powers; their spiritual knowledge is deep, their technological level highly advanced, their laws mild and their study of the arts and sciences covers the full spectrum of cultural achievement, but on a far higher level than anything the outside world has attained. By definition Shambhala is hidden. Of the numerous explorers and seekers of spiritual wisdom who attempt to locate Shambhala, none can pinpoint its physical location on a map, although all say it exists in the mountainous regions of Eurasia. Many have also returned believing that Shambhala lies on the very edge of physical reality, as a bridge connecting this world to one beyond it.

In Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Shambhala (also spelled Shambala or Shamballa; Tibetan: bde 'byung, pron. De-jung) is a mythical kingdom hidden somewhere in Inner Asia. It is mentioned in various ancient texts, including the Kalachakra Tantra and the ancient texts of the Zhang Zhung culture which predated Tibetan Buddhism in western Tibet. The Bön scriptures speak of a closely related land called Olmolungring.

Whatever its historical basis, Shambhala gradually came to be seen as a Buddhist Pure Land, a fabulous kingdom whose reality is visionary or spiritual as much as physical or geographic. It was in this form that the Shambhala myth reached the West, where it influenced non-Buddhist as well as Buddhist spiritual seekers--and to some extent, popular culture in general. The Sanskrit name means “place of peace, of tranquility.” Though it’s true location has never been found, its beginnings are unknown and its existence is unproven, Shambhala is recognized and honored by at least eight major religions, and is regarded by most esoteric traditions as the true center of the planet and the world’s spiritual powerhouse.

Loch Ness monster 'seen twice'

By Nick Collins

Loch Ness monster 'seen twice'

A retired detective whose father captured one of the most famous images of the Loch Ness monster has reopened the debate over the beast's existence by claiming he has seen it twice.

Simon Dinsdale, a retired police detective from Essex, insists that the two minute film recorded 50 years ago by his father, a famous Nessie-hunter, is genuine.
The footage, shot by Tim Dinsdale in 1960, is one of the best-known images put forward as evidence by those who insist on the existence of the mysterious creature.
Now the insistence of those who believe in Nessie that the film is genuine has been lent new weight after Mr Dinsdale claimed he had seen the monster with his own eyes on two occasions.

Malaysian girl tortured in exorcism ritual
Kuala Lumpur, July 21 (DPA):

A Malaysian girl escaped from being tortured for a month in an exorcism rite, a news report said Wednesday.

The 10-year-old girl escaped her torturer by picking the locks on the chains around her feet and is being treated in hospital for burn marks on both hands, bruises on her face, swollen wrists and fractured ribs.

Shortly after she was admitted, police detained a relative with whom she had been living in the southern state of Johor, the New Straits Times reported.
Police said the girl, who has been in the care of the suspect since her father died, was believed to have been subjected to daily torture, supposedly to rid her of bad luck.
The suspect is believed to have beaten, burnt and starved her for about a month, after a medium said the girl was an unlucky omen, the report said.
Police have remanded the suspect for investigations, pending the victim's medical report.

In June, a Malaysian court sentenced a man to death for causing the death of a 3-year-old girl during an exorcism ritual gone wrong.

The Stanford prison experiment

The Stanford prison experiment was a study of the psychological effects of becoming a prisoner or prison guard. The experiment was conducted from Aug. 14-20, 1971 by a team of researchers led by Psychology professor Philip Zimbardo at Stanford University.

A group of test subjects was divided in two subsets, one assuming the role of prisoners and the other assuming the role of prison guards. The main researcher participated in the simulation himself as the prison's superintendent. The guards were only forbidden to physically harm the prisoners, but they were not given any other limitations in order to keep the peace. The goal was to see if personality traits in prisoners and guards could lead to power abuse in prisons.

The experiment was supposed to last 2 weeks, but it was already discontinued after 6 days. The reason was that the guards and prisoners got into character too deeply. When the prisoners started to rebel against the strict prison regime and the uncomfortable clothing, the guards started to display increasingly sadistic behavior in order to keep them subdued and maintain discipline.

Prisoners were subjected to regular humiliation and psychological torture, but strangely, they started to accept their treatment, even though they became increasingly stressed and troubled. None of them even wanted to quit the experiment when they were offered the chance to. The main researcher himself became so absorbed in his role as superintendent, that officials had to deny his increasingly excessive requests. He did not stop the experiment until his girlfriend confronted him with the immorality of the situation.

By that time, one-third of the guard population had shown genuine sadistic traits and many of the prisoners were emotionally traumatized. The experiment was said to have demonstrated how easily people will conform to and obey a convincing ideology and group pressure. The subjects had been selected for their psychological stability, suggesting the excesses were not due to inherent personality traits, but to the situation they were put in.

Scientists find first evidence that many universes exist

(PhysOrg.com) -- By looking far out into space and observing what’s going on there, scientists have been led to theorize that it all started with a Big Bang, immediately followed by a brief period of super-accelerated expansion called inflation. Perhaps this was the beginning of everything, but lately a few scientists have been wondering if something could have come before that, setting up the initial conditions for the birth of our universe.

In the most recent study on pre-Big Bang science posted at arXiv.org, a team of researchers from the UK, Canada, and the US, Stephen M. Feeney, et al, have revealed that they have discovered four statistically unlikely circular patterns in the cosmic microwave background (CMB). The researchers think that these marks could be “bruises” that our universe has incurred from being bumped four times by other universes. If they turn out to be correct, it would be the first evidence that universes other than ours do exist.

The idea that there are many other universes out there is not new, as scientists have previously suggested that we live in a “multiverse” consisting of an infinite number of universes. The multiverse concept stems from the idea of eternal inflation, in which the inflationary period that our universe went through right after the Big Bang was just one of many inflationary periods that different parts of space were and are still undergoing. When one part of space undergoes one of these dramatic growth spurts, it balloons into its own universe with its own physical properties. As its name suggests, eternal inflation occurs an infinite number of times, creating an infinite number of universes, resulting in the multiverse.

Chinese archaeologists unearth 2,400-year-old 'soup'

Chinese archaeologists have unearthed what they believe is a 2,400-year-old pot of soup, state media report.

The liquid and bones were in a sealed bronze cooking vessel dug up near the ancient capital of Xian - home to the country's famed terracotta warriors.

Tests are being carried out to identify the ingredients. An odourless liquid, believed to be wine, was also found.

The pots were discovered in a tomb being excavated to make way for an extension to the local airport.

"It's the first discovery of bone soup in Chinese archaeological history," the newspaper quoted Liu Daiyun of the Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology as saying.

"The discovery will play an important role in studying the eating habits and culture of the Warring States Period (475-221BC)."

Object shot out of sky above Israeli nuclear plant, military says

Jerusalem (CNN) -- The Israeli Air Force shot down an unidentified flying object over the Dimona nuclear plant in the Negev Desert Thursday, the Israel Defense Forces said.

The object appeared in a designated no-fly zone, the air force was scrambled and the object was shot down, the IDF said.

The object could have been a party balloon, the IDF said, but forces have not yet found the debris to determine what it was.

There have been unconfirmed media reports that it was a motor-driven object. The air force reacted according to procedure when the object was spotted, the IDF said.
The Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz reported that last October "IDF warplanes intercepted an Israeli ultralight aircraft that accidentally flew into the area and forced it to land at an airstrip in southern Israel."

Lizard With two Heads: No, You Are Not Seeing Double!

Mother Nature has a rather sadistic sense of humor that sometimes rears its bizarre head, or in this case, heads.

The rare genetic mutation known as axial bifurcation, which translates into having two heads, is a well-known developmental flaw among reptiles and is usually seen in turtles and snakes.

In Rong’an County in southern China’s Guangxi Province, a pet cat has captured a lizard with two heads.

Curious locals have been treating the home of Zheng Tuxiu as if it were some bizarre shrine, as they flock to get a glimpse of this most unusual creature.

“I was scared by the alien stuff my cat brought home,” Zheng told the media.

Although quite uncommon, this occurrence has happened before. Check out the video below below of another two-headed lizard.

In South Wales, Australia, a few years back, a two-headed lizard with two thoraxes and four forelegs was born.

Meet 'Lucky' Yamaguchi, the only man to have survived both Hiroshima AND Nagasaki atomic bomb blasts

A man of 93 has become the first person certified as a survivor of both the U.S. atomic bombs dropped on Japan at the end of the Second World War.

Tsutomu Yamaguchi appears to be the only person in history to have survived not one, but two atomic bomb blasts.

Picture is (C) copyright to Daily Mail

But does this make him the luckiest man in the world - or the unluckiest...?
Yamaguchi had already been a certified 'hibakusha,' or radiation survivor, of the August 9, 1945, atomic bombing in Nagasaki.

But he has now been confirmed as surviving the attack on Hiroshima three days earlier as well, city officials said.

Yamaguchi was in Hiroshima on a business trip on August 6, 1945, when a U.S. B-29 dropped an atomic bomb on the city.

He suffered serious burns to his upper body and spent the night in the city.
Traumatised, he then sought the refuge of his hometown - Nagasaki.

With devastating timing, he arrived just in time for the second attack, city officials said.

Mind reading with MRI: It's early days yet

By Andy Ho, Senior Writer

IF WE could read minds, most cases in court would be quickly sewn up and justice expeditiously served.

In fact, in some courts, neuroscience evidence has already been offered and accepted as being - in some attenuated sense - revelatory of one's thoughts. In June 2008, a Mumbai judge relied upon the Brain Electrical Oscillations Signature (Beos) test to convict a woman of murdering her fiance.

The Beos test consists of conventional electroencephalography (EEG) - electrical signals detected on the scalp when neurons within the brain fire away - analysed using some computer software.

In its written judgment, the court offered a lengthy apologia for using this relatively untested and unreliable technology.

Some practitioners now prefer EEG-fMRI, which is EEG being recorded at the same time as when a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scan is performed. But it is fMRI itself that has become neuroscience's pin-up model.

There is now published research on using this neuroimaging technique to identify which brain areas are fired up by hypnosis, erotic thoughts, deep meditation, mathematical manipulation and so on.

Subjects are made to lie down in an MRI scanner and asked to think about, look at or listen to something while the scanner looks for changes in the flow of blood with lots of or little oxygen to specific parts of the brain.

The scanner's pictures of the brain are divided into little cubes called 'voxels'. The number of voxels with oxygenated and deoxygenated blood is counted and the ratio calculated.

It is thought the brain areas where neurons have just fired off will receive an inflow of oxygen-rich blood just a few seconds after. Measuring the ratio of oxygenated to deoxygenated voxels supposedly shows which brain areas are most active during a particular mental activity. As there is a lot of 'noise' in voxel measurement, computerised statistical packages are used to analyse the data.

3 Very Large Objects In Space Flying To Earth

E.T. does not need to phone home anymore, someone, or something is on it’s way to earth.

SETI Astrophysicist Craig Kasnov ( not to be confused with Craig Kasnoff ) has announced the approach to the Earth of 3 very large, very fast moving objects. The length of the "flying saucers" is in the range of tens of kilometers. Landing, according to calculations of scientists, should be in mid-December 2012. Date coincides with the end of the Mayan calendar.

A few very large objects rapidly approaching the Earth - says SETI astrophysicist Craig Kasnov. Don’t take his word for it you can check it out for yourself. He recommends to go to the site http://www.sky-map.org/ and enter the coordinates of the giant UFO:

19 25 12 -89 46 03 - the first large object
16 19 35 -88 43 10 - a cylindrical object
02 26 39 -89 43 13 - the object as a circle

The project participants are assured that the facilities are absolutely real, and the American space agency NASA is trying to conceal important information.

None of these objects can be seen from the northern hemisphere. The second set of numbers in each line tells us that the "object" or "objects" is/are coming in from very deep in the southern hemisphere sky.

In any case, the only thing we can do now - wait for it - says Kasnov. - Soon celestial objects will be visible in a good telescope.

Keep your eyes on the skies… the truth is out there.

Theory Points to Civilization Under Persian Gulf

(Dec. 11) -- The waters of the Persian Gulf may be hiding a lost civilization that could change our understanding of human history, according to new research.

This huge fertile stretch of land may have been home to humans from about 74,000 years ago until about 8,000 years ago, according to Discovery News.

When the waters around them began to rise, these early humans may have migrated to what is now the gulf shoreline, founding new settlements there, according to a paper published in the December issue of Current Anthropology.

Over the past several years, archaeologists have uncovered new evidence of those shoreline settlements.

"Where before there had been but a handful of scattered hunting camps, suddenly, over 60 new archaeological sites appear virtually overnight," said Jeffrey Rose of the University of Birmingham, according to Fox News.

"These settlements boast well-built, permanent stone houses, long-distance trade networks, elaborately decorated pottery, domesticated animals, and even evidence for one of the oldest boats in the world," Rose said.

Two creepy videos on Youtube

An extremely strange video has made its way onto Youtube from a witness who says he spotted something extremely strange just at the edge of his yard in Bilambil Heights, Australia. And though it hasn't seen much coverage, it is one of the most compelling "Third Kind" encounters we have ever seen. The creature in the footage, though it is distant and at times blurry, exhibits some characteristics that sets this encounter apart from the typical "alien footage" we would normally expect from the popular video sharing site.

Another interesting find from video sharing site Youtube comes in the form of a mysterious encounter two youths had while following up on a series of strange sounds and a brief encounter with a strange large headed entity they saw in their corn field. As the witnesses stepped out into the field to see if they could find anything worth filming, they discovered something indeed was hanging around near them. Just what it is, however, is anyone's guess.

Mona Lisa painting 'contains hidden code'

By Nick Pisa, Rome

Leonardo Da Vinci's 500-year-old Renaissance masterpiece has long been steeped in mystery, and even today the true identity of the woman with the alluring smile still far from certain.

Now members of Italy's National Committee for Cultural Heritage have revealed that by magnifying high resolution images of the Mona Lisa's eyes letters and numbers can be seen.

"To the naked eye the symbols are not visible but with a magnifying glass they can clearly be seen," said Silvano Vinceti, president of the Committee.

In the right eye appear to be the letters LV which could well stand for his name Leonardo Da Vinci while in the left eye there are also symbols but they are not as defined.

He said: "It is very difficult to make them out clearly but they appear to be the letters CE or it could be the letter B - you have to remember the picture is almost 500 years old so it is not as sharp and clear as when first painted.
"While in the arch of the bridge in the background the number 72 can be seen, or it could be an L and the number 2."

The painting also featured in the Dan Brown blockbuster The Da Vinci Code, which was turned into a 2006 film starring Tom Hanks. His character interprets secret messages hidden in the Mona Lisa and Da Vinci's other works, including The Last Supper.

What IS that? 'Forest ghoul' caught on camera in dead of night by a deer hunter

By MATT BLAKE

Picture is (C) copyright to Wildgames Innovations

Picture is (C) copyright to Wildgames Innovations
If you go down to the woods tonight... you probably won't believe your eyes.
Because judging by footage from a hunting firm's website, this crouching phantom looks like Spider-Man has swung on to the set of the Blair Witch Project.

A deer hunter in the U.S. posted a video said to feature the creature on the Wildgame Innovations website - and the piercing white eyes aren't the sort you would want to meet on a dark night.

The hunter said he was lying in wait in the pitch black when a ghoulish spectre filled his sights.

Its eyes glowing in the light of his torch, it leapt from the undergrowth and flashed a look at the camera before vanishing back into the bushes.

Are they related? The 'forest ghoul' bears a resemblance to Spider-Man, whose latest screen outing has just gone into production.

The hunter, who has chosen to remain anonymous, was so frightened he said he broke the camera but retrieved the image from its undamaged memory chip.

The picture was taken on a reserve in Berwick near Morgan City, Louisiana.
Internet users agree the whole thing is merely a hoax - and one comment posted claimed the figure had been stolen from a video game he had seen two years ago.
But the hunter insisted it is not a hoax.

Conspiracy theorists will no doubt note the similarity between the figure's crouching pose and that used by Spider-Man, whose latest big-screen adventure has just begun shooting.

Kazakhstan's president urges scientists to find the elixir of life

Nursultan Nazarbayev calls on new research institute to concentrate on study to unlock secret of immortality

Cleopatra may have bathed in asses' milk to preserve her youth but Nursultan Nazarbayev, the autocratic president of Kazakhstan, wants nothing less than an elixir of life to keep him going.

Not satisfied with 19 years in charge of the gas-rich central Asian state, Nazarbayev urged scientists today to unlock the secret to immortality.

The 70-year-old leader stressed in a speech that a new scientific research institute in the capital Astana should study "rejuvenation of the organism," as well as "the human genome, production of human tissue and creation of gene-based medicines".

In an aside to students, Nazarbayev added: "As for the medicine of the future, people of my age are really hoping all of this will happen as soon as possible."

Two months ago an ethnic Korean delegate at Kazakhstan's people's assembly proposed that Nazarbayev should stay in power until 2020. The president answered: "Maybe, then, you'll offer me an elixir of youth and energy – maybe you have such potions in Korea … I'm willing to go on until 2020, just find me an elixir."

Today was the third time in just over a year that Nazarbayev has urged scientists to find a way to stave off death.

"Anti-ageing medicine, natural rejuvenation, immortality," he mused to a government science committee in September last year. "That's what people are studying these days." He added: "Those who do are the most successful states in the world – those who don't will get left on the sidelines."
In case anyone had missed the point, Nazarbayev repeated the challenge a month later.

Study Says Wi-Fi Makes Trees Sick

Wi-Fi, sweet deliverer of information and porn, may be killing trees. A study by a Dutch university suggests that Wi-Fi radiation causes weird abnormalities in trees. This is disturbing, as we love both Wi-Fi and trees.

The dutch city of Alphen aan den Rijn commissioned the study five years ago to figure out why their city's trees were developing weird growths, according to PC World. The study, conducted by a researcher at Wageningen University, found that 70 percent of trees in urban areas exhibited similar symptoms today, while only 10 percent did five years ago. What's to blame for the increase? Wi-Fi, maybe.

From PC World:

The study exposed 20 ash trees to various radiation sources for a period of three months. Trees placed closest to the Wi-Fi radio demonstrated a "lead-like shine" on their leaves that was caused by the dying of the upper and lower epidermis of the leaves. This would eventually result in the death of parts of the leaves. The study also found that Wi-Fi radiation could inhibit the growth of corn cobs.
