IPOH - MANY youths in Ipoh are vomiting blood and having diarrhoea after consuming a popular new brand of hard liquor.
According to a report in Harian Metro, these drinks called "Tonik Gila" and "Samsu Setan" are becoming increasingly popular due to the low cost and high alcohol content.
They are being sold at grocery and traditional Chinese medicine stores at RM3.30(S$1.40) for a 150ml bottle, with alcohol content between 27% and 43%.
According to Ipoh Specialist Hospital Gastroenterology consultant Dr Wong Chong Heng, the high alcohol content was causing frequent drinkers to suffer from liver damage which leads to them vomiting blood and having diarrhoea.
He added that youths addicted to this drink were also at risk of brain inflammation, coma and sudden death.
