Recently the term Mass Hysteria has been used to describe the sudden mysterious affliction of some thirteen high school girls at Le Roy in upstate New York by more than a few skeptics. But does this explanation really hold up? To gain some perspective on the whole idea of mass hysteria here are some of the strangest examples ever recorded.
One of the earliest famous accounts ever recorded that are now widely considered mass hysteria was the dancing plague of 1518. Sufferers of the mysterious and strange epidemic found themselves dancing uncontrollably. Soon others joined in and by the end of it, many of the dancers lay dead having exhausted themselves beyond their capacity to go on. The illness is widely considered one of the most bizarre and tragic such cases.
Much later, however, there was an illness known as the Tanganyika laughter. This mysterious laughter began very suddenly in Tanzania on January 30, 1962. The strange ailment caused the school to close its doors and shut down while those outside of it were still looking for answers. The students would suddenly find themselves laughing hysterically, unable to stop it. Soon 159 students would be affected.
The school was closed to stem the spread of what was believed to be a possible pathogen. By that time, however, it was too late. Soon the bizarre laughter could be heard ringing from many miles away spreading from the students to the villagers. By the end of this bizarre ailment more schools would close in nearby Kanyangereka. Nothing was ever identified to cause the mysterious illness and it was declared to be a case of mass hysteria.

Meet the ‘psychic vampires’
While they may not suck the blood out of you, they do drain your energies leaving you depressed and irritable say Wiccans. Melissa D'costa finds out more
Wiccans, psychic vampires
If you've ever been in a crowded train or party and come back home feeling physically sick, angry, cranky, or irritable for no reason, you were probably subjected to an attack from a psychic vampire according to Sangeeta Krishnan, High Priestess, Maya Wicca Tradition.
How to identify a 'psychic vampire'?
Shahrukh Vazir, a tarot reader, says, "People associate the word vampire with blood sucking creatures, however the concept of a 'psychic vampire' is slightly different because they do not suck your blood but drain you of your psychic energy. You can come across a psychic vampire anywhere - a screaming baby that makes you irritable, a crowded train, a walk in the hot sun. But if there is a problem, there is a solution to it. There are ways to protect oneself from this loss of energy. To start off, we should be aware that one is loosing psychic energy. Next, it is important to want to retain this energy. This intention is enough to shield oneself."
How spiritual healing can protect you?
Sangeeta adds, "Not everyone is vulnerable to a psychic attack. If you are well grounded, and your 'spiritual immunity' is high, you will be protected from all kinds of psychic attacks. If you identify a place or person that drains your energy (whether or not it is unintentional or malicious), the simplest way to deal with it in the short term is by staying away from the person/place/object. You can also visualise a bright, golden sphere surrounding your body that diverts all negative energy. One very simple way of protection is salt. Salt crystals are powerful protectors of energy and one of the best ways to protect yourself using salt is to put a fistful of pure, uniodised sea salt in your bath water. Crystals like obsidian and tourmaline can be placed at a spot or carried around as they absorb negative energy. Smudging a house (or yourself) with dhoop or smoke of frankincense is another way to energise and strengthen your auric field and prevent psychic attacks."
Mandaar Naik, a tarot reader believes in the power of spiritual healing and faith. He says, "Every living body in the universe is surrounded by invisible energy, which we often refer to as an 'aura'. It's channelised with each other, knowingly or unknowingly. All of us draw energy from each other, as well as send it. However, there are some people who are knowingly or unknowingly drawing energies from other people. Such individuals are like 'energy/psychic vampires'. To avoid becoming a victim, one can turn to Reiki, chanting mantras and practicing meditation. You can also use tantras eg. Shiv-Swar shastra are tools to shield one self from such people."

Victims of Cambodia Khmer Rouge Tuol Sleng Genocide Still Haunts
At night, we can see a black shadow walking," says Kim Sok, a 25-year-old guard at the museum, which served as the main prison for the 1975 to 1979 Khmer Rouge regime. "We just stay close together so we can take care of each other."
Here, at prison code-named S-21 under the supervision of former mathematics teacher Kaing Guek Eav, alias Duch, more than 15,000 prisoners were tortured before being hauled to a killing field on the outskirts of Phnom Penh. After the UN-backed Khmer Rouge war crimes tribunal began on Tuesday to try Duch for crimes against humanity and war crimes, nowhere seems as haunted as his notorious former prison.
Belief in spirits is widespread throughout Cambodia and there is particular fear of those who died violently without a proper Buddhist burial. "Many people, including tourists, told me they've seen spirits disguised as a monk, a prisoner and children," says Ith Simorn, 48, who lives in a house across from the ramshackle museum.
Consisting of four buildings and a dusty field, Tuol Sleng was a high school until the Khmer Rouge made it the centre of a network of 70 prisons throughout the country. Documents at Tuol Sleng reveal leaders ordered suspected enemies of the regime to be tortured into signing statements that they were agents of the CIA, KGB and of neighbouring Vietnam.
In all, up to two million people died in Cambodia under the regime because of overwork, starvation, execution and torture.

Was Jesus Christ once a Buddhist Monk?
Was Jesus a Buddhist? Certainly he was many things--Jew, prophet, healer, moralist, revolutionary, by his own admission the Messiah, and for most Christians the Son of God and redeemer of their sins. And there is convincing evidence that he was also a Buddhist. The evidence follows two independent lines--the first is historical, and the second is textual. Historical evidence indicates that Jesus was well acquainted with Buddhism. If Jesus did not go to India, then at least India went to Judea and Jesus.
The real historical question is not if he studied Buddhism, but where and how much he studied Buddhism, especially during his so-called "lost years." Historical accounts aside, many textual analyses indicate striking similarities between what was said by Jesus and by Buddha and between the prophetic legend of Jesus and ancient Buddhist texts.
The conclusion is that, although not identifying himself as a Buddhist for good reasons, Jesus spoke like a Buddhist. The similarities are so striking that, even if no historical evidence existed, we can suspect that Jesus studied Buddhist teachings and that the prophecy and legend of Jesus was derived from Buddhist stories.

My Aunt Mai and the Neglected Boy
Source: Your Ghost Stories
This an old story that happened a long time ago back in Laos. This was the story that happened to my aunt, my mom's sister. My aunt Mai was the eldest unwed girl in her village at the age of 17. So she was the mother figure to a lot of the children in the neighborhood.
There was a young boy at the age of 6 that Mai took care of day in and day out, because his parents were constantly arguing and violence was involved. Divorce is considered to be a disgrace and one would rather die than have a divorce back then.
One night, the little boy ended up at Mai's front door, shivering. Mai took him in and warmed the boy up. The boy said his parents were arguing all night, then it was silent and he noticed that he was home alone. Now these were not regular insulated homes, the homes, back then, were just huts made of banana leaves and twigs.
The entire village must have heard them arguing that night, but ignored it. Morning came and the boy's parents still did not come to claim the boy. Mai took the boy next door to his house and knocked on the door, yet no one opened. Night came and Mai heard voices coming from the little boy's house. So she took the boy and went next door. She kicked the door open and to her surprise she saw another woman in the arms of the boy's father. Mai apologized for intruding but explained the reason why she was there - to bring his son home.
Days turned into weeks, no one in the village heard or seen of the boy's mother since that night. The mother's parents came to the house demanding to speak with their daughter but the boy's father would say she had left with another man. The village knew the mother was not the type to do such a thing, and gossips filled the community that he had murdered her but there wasn't enough evidence to prove it. The father went around the county with his new bride, leaving his only son to Mai to take care of. The boy was not sad, did not mention he missed his mother, nor did he shed a tear for her... Mai got concerned.
One morning, Mai went to pick up the boy from his house. The boy came out of the house, waved in the direction of his father - his father who wasn't looking at him - and came out of the house with a smile. Mai asked him why he was so happy. He said his mother is taking him away from here. Mai was confused, she asked, "Where IS your mother?" The little boy replied, "Dad loves her a lot now, every day he carries her on his back." Mai's mouth dropped. The boy said, "Just look at them, aren't they happy" as he looked into the house toward his father. Mai looked inside, she only saw the father's back turned facing them with his new wife cooking - no sign of the mother.
My aunt said a week after that the little boy mysteriously passed away. Some said it was due to an illness that he contracted and since they lived in the rural, nothing could save him but my aunt said it was because his mother came to get him away from his horrible father.

Why flatworms may hold the secret to immortality
British scientists believe they may have identified how humans could potentially live forever - and it’s all about flatworms Experts at Nottingham University have been examining how two species of flatworms are able to regenerate themselves again and again – raising hopes that scientists could find ways of alleviating the effects of ageing in human cells.
Flatworms, known as planarian worms, have long fascinated scientists with their apparently limitless ability to regenerate

Japan's tsunami city Ishinomaki is still haunted after 1 Year
A year after whole neighbourhoods full of people were killed by the Japanese tsunami, rumours of ghosts swirl in Ishinomaki as the city struggles to come to terms with the awful tragedy.
One reconstruction project appears stalled because of fears the undead spirits of those who perished last March will bring bad luck.
"I heard people working to repair the store became sick because of ghosts," Satoshi Abe, 64, said, gesturing to a half-repaired supermarket. "People died everywhere, here and there. The city is full of such stories," he said.

Thousands of dead fish washed up in Pasir Ris
Light glinted off the bodies of thousands of fish in Sungei Api Api river yesterday morning.
The mesmerising sight surprised many residents who lived near the river in Pasir Ris.
The mass of swimming fish also caused the water surface to ripple.
"I thought it was raining at first," said Mr Mohammed Rahim Dasmin, 46, who passed the 1.2km river while cycling to work at 7.30am.
The storekeeper has lived in the area for more than 10 years, but it was the first time he had witnessed such a sight.
Housewife June Chua, 60, was on her way to the market when the crowd gathered at the river caught her attention.
Distracted, she walked over and was amazed to see the sight of thousands of fish.
"It was very beautiful," said Madam Chua.
However, a different sight - and smell - greeted her when she passed the site again in the evening to pick up her grandchildren from school.
Then, the stench of dead fish washed up along the river bank hit her even before she saw them.
Another resident, Madam Wati Mansor, whose home faces the river, compared the pungent smell to that of a fish market.
"I was cooking chicken for lunch and thought to myself, 'Why is the smell of fish so strong?'"
The 47-year-old housewife said the foul smell lingered in her second-storey flat throughout the afternoon.
Ms Haydee Allanigue was jogging around her estate in Pasir Ris and was about 100m from the river bank when she detected the odour of dead fish.
Like many others, the 33-year-old Pasir Ris resident was puzzled.
"I know it's fish, but why are there so many here?" she asked.
When The New Paper arrived at the scene at 5.30pm, workers were already clearing away the fish.
A 31-year-old foreman, who wanted to be known only as Mr Wanz, claimed that his team had been hard at work since about 8am.
"I have no idea when we're going to finish," he said.
Used in cooking
He believed that the dead fish is ikan tamban, a species commonly used in cooking.
In a joint statement, the Public Utilities Board (PUB) and National Environment Agency (NEA) said they were informed of dead fish at the mouth of Sungei Api Api this morning.
When they arrived at the site, dead fish were also found along the beach at Pasir Ris.
They were likely to have been washed in by the tide and some of them were deposited on the river bank of Sungei Api Api.
PUB assures the public that this incident has no impact on drinking water quality.
The water from the river is not used for drinking.
NEA is investigating the cause of the incident.

Mayan Light Beam Photo (Gods's Message or iPhone Glitch?)
When Hector Siliezar visited the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza with his wife and kids in 2009, he snapped three iPhone photos of El Castillo, a pyramid that once served as a sacred temple to the Mayan god Kukulkan. A thunderstorm was brewing near the temple, and Siliezar was trying to capture lightning crackling dramatically over the ruins. In the first two images, dark clouds loom above the pyramid, but nothing is amiss.
However, in the third photo, a powerful beam of light appears to shoot up from the pyramid toward the heavens, and a thunderbolt flashes in the background. Siliezar, who recently shared his photographs with occult investigators, told Earthfiles.com that he and his family didn't see the light beam in person; it appeared only on camera. "It was amazing!" he said. He showed the iPhone photo to his fellow tourists. "No one, not even the tour guide, had ever seen anything like it before."
The photo has surfaced on several Mayan doomsday discussion forums. But was the light beam a sign from the gods — a warning about Dec. 21, 2012, the date that marks the end of the Mayan calendar cycle, and when some people fear the world will end? Or is it simply the result of an iPhone glitch?

Human fossils hint at new species
The remains of what may be a previously unknown human species have been identified in southern China.
Image copyright to BBC
The bones, which represent at least five individuals, have been dated to between 11,500 and 14,500 years ago.
But scientists are calling them simply the Red Deer Cave people, after one of the sites where they were unearthed.
The team has told the PLoS One journal that far more detailed analysis of the fossils is required before they can be ascribed to a new human lineage.
"We're trying to be very careful at this stage about definitely classifying them," said study co-leader Darren Curnoe from the University of New South Wales, Australia.
"One of the reasons for that is that in the science of human evolution or palaeoanthropology, we presently don't have a generally agreed, biological definition for our own species (Homo sapiens), believe it or not. And so this is a highly contentious area," he told BBC News.
Much of the material has been in Chinese collections for some time but has only recently been subjected to intense investigation.
The remains of some of the individuals come from Maludong (or Red Deer Cave), near the city of Mengzi in Yunnan Province. A further skeleton was discovered at Longlin, in neighbouring Guangxi Province.
The skulls and teeth from the two locations are very similar to each other, suggesting they are from the same population.

The Philip experiment
The Experiment
In the 1970's, a group of Canadian parapsychologists wanted to attempt an experiment to create a ghost, proving their theory that the human mind can produce spirits through expectation, imagination and visualization.
The actual experiment took place in Toronto, Canada, in 1972, under the direction of the world-renown expert on poltergeists, Dr A. R. G. Owen.
The members of the experiment proposed an idea... by using extreme and prolonged concentration, they could create their ghost through a collective thought form: Non-physical entities which exist in either the mental or astral plane. In order to create this ghost and make it as 'real' as possible, it needed a life story; a background in which the ghost could 'relate' to.
They named the ghost they were attempting to bring into focus "Philip Aylesford" and created a tragic story, explaining to the fullest and in great detail, his life, and the few actions that lead to his tragic death.
Step two was contacting Philip. In September 1972, the group began their "sittings" and after some initial problems the group attempted to duplicate the atmosphere of a classic spiritualist séance. They dimmed the room's lights, sat around a table and surrounded themselves with pictures of the type of castle they imagined Philip would have lived in, as well as objects from that time period.
Within a few weeks, Philip made contact. Although he did not manifest in spiritual form, appearing as an apparition or ghost, he did make contact through a brief rap on the group's table. "Philip" answered questions that were consistent with his fictitious history, but was unable to provide any information beyond that which the group had conceived. However, "Philip" did give other historically accurate information about real events and people. The Owen group theorized that this latter information came from their own collective unconsciousness.
The sessions took off from there, producing a range of phenomena that could not be explained scientifically. His "spirit" was able to move the table, sliding it from side to side. On more than one occasion, the table chased someone across the room. All hands were clear of the table when this occurred.
In conclusion the experimenters were never able to prove the 'how' and the 'why' behind Philip's manifestation. Was Philip a direct result of the group's collective subconscious or perhaps did they conjure an actual entity that simply latched onto the story?
While some would conclude that they prove that ghosts don't exist, that such things are in our minds only, others say that our unconscious could be responsible for this kind of the phenomena some of the time.
Another point of view is that even though Philip was completely fictional, the Owen group really did contact the spirit world. A playful (or perhaps demonic, some would argue) spirit took the opportunity of these séances to 'act' as Philip and produce the extraordinary psychokinetic phenomena recorded.
Whatever caused the manifestation it seems that it adapted itself to the expectation of the audience, playing the role of the spirit they intended to contact. Since all was based on fiction it could not be the spirit of Philip so what else could it be?
Conclusion
The Philip experiment has been very extraordinary to say the least. It seems to proof that séances can indeed create the type of manifestations that are often reported by participants of such activities. The atmosphere in such a 'sitting' might make people more sensitive for noticing weak noises and signs that normally are overlooked as communication or interaction with non-physical entities.
During the Philip experiment the participants where convinced that some kind of interaction was going on.
With knocks and rasps heard coming from the table, the group's questions where answered and eventually the table moved, danced and reacted on the group's presence.
If this would happen in any ordinary séance it would definitely cause anxiety, fear, excitement and would easily contribute in having people believe in ghosts, spirits, demons and non-physical intellectual entities that are capable of communicating with us.
Since the 'Philip' group did expect some kind of manifestation as result of their experiment, their intention and expectation might have contributed to the final result. The intentional creation of the right atmosphere might also have helped to make possible the phenomena. However the resulting interaction with 'Philip' has been rather basic, no voices, no floating bodies, only knocks and moving objects, classical manifestations of ghosts. A real interactive conversation with a ghost was never accomplished.
Would it not be great to be able to communicate openly with ghosts, it could teach us a lot about them, what they are, what attracts them to communicating with us etc. This does not seem to have happened in the Philip experiment and as I am aware it never happened. The reason might be that it just can't be done. We might want to, but from the spirit's point of view it might not be possible. Of course without such a bi-directional conversation we are limited in what we can know about ghosts and spirits.
The result of a communication based on a table that 'raps and knocks' is highly depending on the expectation of the participants. Since the group determines the direction of the conversation, it is likely that the outcome will be approximately what it is expected to be. It does not come close to a real discussion. The manifestations in the 'Philip' experiment only proved that something was manipulating the table and impersonated the ghost of 'Philip' which of course in it's own right is amazing.
In the 'Philip' experiment, questions were asked aloud, that would mean that the spirit was able to hear and/or understand spoken language. Since the team could not hear directly the answers of the spirit (although sometimes a soft whispering was noticeable), the replies came as knocks and rappings from the table, of course this is nothing close to an interactive communication. In a real discussion both parties can lead the direction of the conversation and can choose the topics that are being discussed. When one party can only reply with yes and no then the conversation is limited to the topics that the leading (verbal) party comes up with. Which might be very determined indeed.
Lets assume that the effects witnessed during the experiment were real and that objects like tables can be manipulated invisibly. Of course we still don't know how but if it can be done then science will eventually find out how to replicate these effects.
There will likely be a time that we will have devices that can manipulate objects over distance in such a way that you cannot tell the difference between extraordinary psychokinetic phenomena produced by a ghost and the consequence of operating a super duper high tech device. The result will be spooky effects that cannot easily be explained if you do not know of the existence of such a technology.

Emails from dead man’s account helping family and friends find closure
When Jack Froese, 32, died of a heart arrhythmia in June 2011, he left behind a number of grieving friends and family members. But the BBC reports that several mysterious posthumous emails from Froese's account have brought some happiness and closure to those who were closest to him.
Last November, five months after Froese's death, his childhood best friend Tim Art received an email from Froese's account.
"One night in November, I was sitting on my couch, going through my emails on my phone and it popped up, 'sender: Jack Froese.' I turned ghost white when I read it," Hart told the BBC. "It was very quick and short but to a point that only Jack and I could relate on."
The email had the subject heading, "I'm Watching." While the text of the message itself read, "Did you hear me? I'm at your house. Clean your f***ing attic!!!"
Hart says that shortly before Froese's death, the two had a private conversation in Hart's attic, during which Froese teased him over the attic's messy state. "Just he and I up there. That's it," Hart said.
Froese's cousin Jimmy McGraw also claims to have received a posthumous email from Froese, warning him about an ankle injury that occurred after his cousin's death.
"I'd like to say Jack sent it, just because I look at it as he's gone, but he's still trying to connect with me. Trying to tell me to move along, to feel better," McGraw said.
For now, the source of the emails remains a mystery. But that's OK with Hart, who says that even if the emails are coming from a cruel prankster who has hacked Froese's account, he doesn't mind. "If somebody's joking around, I don't care because I take it whatever way I want," he said.
What's interesting and unique about this case is that the emails all had a personal touch. There have been several reported cases of emails sent from a deceased person's account, but those usually can be easily traced back to spam accounts that have accessed the deceased person's information.

A rare abduction scenario from Israel
Source: Gil Bar, UFOs in Israel Timeline through Phantom and Monsters Blog
by Albert Rosales
Location: Al Sarafand, Israel - 1967 - night
A local resident watched a luminous egg-shaped object land nearby. As he watched he heard a telepathic message inviting him very amicably to enter. He accepted the invitation and entered the object through an opened hatch. Inside he was met by several short gray creatures with large hairless heads and huge black eyes.
He then noticed what appeared to be several ‘operating tables’, and begged the aliens not to examine him. He exited the object and walked backwards keeping his eyes on the object when suddenly a bright beam of light struck him on his stomach and sent him flying a distance of several meters. When he was able to move again the object had vanished. That same night other local residents reported seeing a bright UFO in the sky.

South Korean and Russian scientists bid to clone mammoth
Russian and South Korean scientists signed a deal on Tuesday on joint research intended to recreate a woolly mammoth, an animal which last walked the earth some 10,000 years ago.
The deal was signed by Vasily Vasiliev, vice rector of North-Eastern Federal University of the Sakha Republic, and controversial cloning pioneer Hwang Woo-Suk of South Korea's Sooam Biotech Research Foundation.
Hwang was a national hero until some of his research into creating human stem cells was found in 2006 to have been faked. But his work in creating Snuppy, the world's first cloned dog, in 2005, has been verified by experts.
Stem cell scientists are now setting their sights on the extinct woolly mammoth, after global warming thawed Siberia's permafrost and uncovered remains of the animal.
Sooam said it would launch research this year if the Russian university can ship the remains. The Beijing Genomics Institute will also take part in the project.
The South Korean foundation said it would transfer technology to the Russian university, which has already been involved in joint research with Japanese scientists to bring a mammoth back to life.

The Pokémon Panic of 1997
by Ben Radford
In 1997, an episode of the cartoon Pokémon allegedly induced seizures and other ailments in thousands of Japanese children. Though popularly attributed to photosensitive epilepsy, the episode has many of the hallmarks of mass hysteria.
On Tuesday night, December 16, 1997, Pokémon episode number 38, Dennou Senshi Porigon (Computer Warrior Polygon) aired in Japan at 6:30. The program, broadcast over thirty-seven TV stations, was already very popular in Japan, and held the highest ratings for its time slot.
In the episode, Pikachu and its human friends Satoshi, Kasumi, and Takeshi, have an adventure that leads inside a computer. About twenty minutes into the program, the gang encounters a fighter named Polygon. A battle ensues, during which Pikachu uses his electricity powers to stop a “virus bomb.” The animators depict Pikachu’s electric attack with a quick series of flashing lights.
In all, millions watched the program. In one section of Japan, Aichi Prefecture, an estimated 70 percent of the 24,000 elementary school students and 35 percent of the 13,000 junior high school students watched the program, for a total of more than 21,000 in Aichi alone (Japan Times 1997). In Tokyo, the local board of education investigated all public kindergartens, primary and middle schools in the area and found that 50,714 students, or 55 percent of the whole, watched the episode (Yomiuri Shimbun 1997c).
At about 6:51, the flashing lights filled the screens. By 7:30, according to the Fire-Defense agency, 618 children had been taken to hospitals complaining of various symptoms.
News of the attacks shot through Japan, and it was the subject of media reports later that evening. During the coverage, several stations replayed the flashing sequence, whereupon even more children fell ill and sought medical attention. The number affected by this “second wave” is unknown.

NASA Crushes 2012 Mayan Apocalypse Claims
by Natalie Wolchover
Scientists at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory have put out a new video to address false claims about the "Mayan apocalypse," a non-event that some people believe will bring the world to an end on Dec. 21.
In the video, which was posted online Wednesday (Mar. 7), Don Yeomans, head of the Near-Earth Objects Program Office at NASA/JPL, explains away many of the most frequently cited doomsday scenarios. [See video]
Addressing the belief that the calendar used by the ancient Mayan civilization comes to a sudden end in December 2012, and that this will coincide with a cataclysmic, world-ending event, Yeomans said: "Their calendar does not end on December 21, 2012; it's just the end of the cycle and the beginning of a new one. It's just like on December 31, our calendar comes to an end, but a new calendar begins on January 1."
Yeomans also attempted to allay fears regarding potential causes of a Mayan apocalypse, including Nibiru, an imaginary planet that some people think is swinging in from the outer solar system just in time to collide with Earth in December. "This enormous planet is supposed to be coming toward Earth, but if it were, we would have seen it long ago. And if it were invisible somehow, we would have seen the [gravitational] effects of this planet on neighboring planets. Thousands of astronomers who scan the sky on a daily basis have not seen this," he said. [Believers In Mysterious Planet Nibiru Await Earth's End]
He added that there is zero possibility of a NASA cover-up. "Can you imagine thousands of astronomers who observe the skies on a daily basis keeping the same secret from the public for several years?"
As for solar flares, Yeomans explained that these do exist — in fact, two massive solar flares erupted just days ago, sending bursts of solar radiation into space — but they are part of the sun's normal 11-year cycle. Radiation from solar flares can damage orbiting satellites, but Earth's magnetosphere shields its inhabitants from the blasts, and the flares are not a health concern.

Japanese Torpedo Boats in the Baltic
In 1904 the Russian Tsar, Nicholas II, ordered his Baltic navy to travel around the world to take on the Japanese (who had already destroyed Nicholas’ Pacific fleet). It proved an extraordinary ‘voyage of the damned’ as almost forty Russian ships, including five capital ships sailed towards their doom at the hands of the able Japanese Admiral, Togo. But Beachcombing is not interested in their undoing (at least not today). Rather his curiosity is aroused by a curious episode that took place at the very beginning of the voyage when the Russian fleet believed that it was attacked by Japanese torpedo boats at Dogger Bank, between the Baltic and Britain, and managed, in the confusion, to kill four British fishermen.
Now to a casual reader the very idea of Japanese torpedo boats in the North Sea might seem strange; as, in fact, it is and was. The only way that Japanese torpedo boats would have found their way to the North Sea would be if they had had a nearby friendly port. Yet the Dutch and the Danes were not in the habit of opening their quays to hostile oriental powers wanting to take a swipe at the Russian Bear. Britain, it was true, was in alliance with Japan but it would be an act of diplomatic suicide – it would mean that Britain wanted war – to allow armed Japanese vessels from Dover to steam out towards a European neighbour.
But the Russian fleet and diplomatic service were convinced that Japanese torpedo boats were waiting for them in some God-forsaken islet. Sound absurd? Paranoia had been fed by reports of oriental gentlemen in Baltic ports and mysterious boats glimpsed at twilight: the useless rumours and banter modern intelligence services call ‘chatter’ was picking up. And, what is truly incredible is that the Russians acted upon this chatter.

Interview with oily ghost witness turns eerie
A woman living in Kampung Laksmana near Kuala Lumpur described a chilling encounter with the supernatural.
Rohaini Ismail said an orang minyak had entered her home.
She was interviewed because people in her village reported sightings of an orang minyak and were trying to track it down.
She told The Star: "I was watching TV at around 8.45pm. I sensed something unnatural. Like a presence, i ignored it but it remained."
"My relative asked me to get something. Then I heard a stranger's voice in a language that my relative and I did not understand."
She went to lie down and told the relative to look out at the back of the house. The relative refused, saying she felt goosebumps.
While describing the encounter to the Malaysian TV crew, the interview suddenly took an eerie turn.
The woman cried out. "It's here again!"
She began gesticulating and speaking as if she was a different person. "I want the woman! Where is the woman?" she demanded in a rough voice, asking for a 19-year-old virgin.
Just as suddenly as she was possessed, Rohaini shook and began speaking normally again.

Whitney's distraught mum haunted by her ghost
In a letter handed to her friends and family, Whitney Houston's distraught mother has said that she is being haunted by the ghost of her daughter.
Grieving Cissy Houston says her doorbell has been ringing mysteriously since the day Whitney died, but 78-year-old insists that she is not scared and is taking comfort from the spirit.
Meanwhile close friends of the family said Cissy is in danger of becoming "obsessed" with feelings that the songbird is still with her.
They warned it is a sign the frail grandmother-of-six is suffering from "uncontrollable grief and shock" that could spiral into a mental breakdown, the Daily Star reported.
Cissy could not bring herself to speak at her daughter's funeral held eight days ago.
Instead, she handed mourners a letter, which told how she believes the singer's spirit called at her door the day her body was found.
Cissy also revealed in the heart-rending message how God tried to warn her that her daughter was going to die.
The letter reads as "On Saturday, before I found out about your transition, my doorbell rang."
"I called the concierge to tell him someone was ringing my doorbell. He checked the cameras and told me that no one was there.
"You promised me you were coming to spend time with me after the Grammys. I believe the spirits allowed you to come after all," Cissy wrote.

Adele terrified that her new mansion is haunted
Poor Adele! Shortly after moving into her new palatial $6 million pad, she’s too scared to sleep in it alone. The ‘Someone Like You’ singer is convinced her new mansion is haunted.
The Sun reports that Adele hired a former female driver to be her bodyguard in her new home 24/7. She’s reported to have told a friend, “I’m not rattling around here on my own. It gives me the creeps.”
Adele allegedly hired the bodyguard after “hearing things that made her jump.” The details are scant about just what those sounds were, but they were enough to terrify the singer into paying the bodyguard over $100,000 a year to stick around with her.
Adele’s 25-acre estate used to be a convent. The mansion has two swimming pools (one indoor, one outdoor), tennis courts, a ballroom, a helipad, a staff cottage and 10 bedrooms. Ironically, when describing her new home to Anderson Cooper, Adele told him, “This house is safety for me.”
“Adele was so excited to be renting such a lavish property but it has not turned out as happily as it should have,” a source told the newspaper. “She is convinced it is haunted. She knows about its religious history — and it’s a big place to be in on your own in the dead of night.”
We’re glad Adele is taking precautions, but we’re a bit skeptical still. Large old houses tend to creak and settle, so we’re hoping that’s the only thing going on — and that it’s not something more sinister! Perhaps her next tour shouldn’t be with Anderson Cooper, but with the cast of ‘Ghost Hunters.’

Is There Evidence of Advanced Technology in Ancient Hopi Culture?
by Micah Hanks
Years ago, I recall doing an interview with a very skeptically-minded cosmologist, who on occasion would humor journalists by fielding questions about UFOs, most–if not all of which–he believed, could be explained away through the marvelous knowledge base of the modern sciences. When asked if he believed humankind had ever had interaction with advanced extraterrestrial intelligences, he replied, “I don’t think there’s any evidence of that sort of thing in recent times, although I wouldn’t be surprised at all if hadn’t likely happened in prehistoric times.”
I found this statement rather interesting, since it seemed to allude to the very same sort of sentiment expressed within the UFO circles: that mankind may have had “help” at various times along the way in our lineage of coming to hold the position of dominance among species here on Earth. It was particularly strange to hear it coming from this individual, however, since this position is often criticized heavily by the science-minded for doubting the ingenuity and natural prowess of mankind as a species, instead favoring the position that we could not have achieved what we have on our own.
Regardless of what position on the matter one may hold, it cannot be dismissed that a multitude of ancient sacred and religious texts from around the world can be interpreted as dealing with this approach: from the Sanskrit epics of ancient India, rife with their reports of flying “vimanas” and advanced sounding weapons, to similar rich traditions found amidst cultures of ancient Mesopotamia, there are many who claim that evidence of a far greater level of advancement existed on Earth thousands of years ago… the question, of course, has to do with whether such proposed advanced technologies were our own, or if they came from someplace else.

Chinese woman, 95, comes back to life by climbing out her coffin six days after she 'died'
A 95-year-old Chinese woman thought to have passed away stunned her neighbours - after waking up six days after she had been placed in a coffin.
Li Xiufeng was found motionless and not breathing in bed by a neighbour two weeks after tripping and suffering a head injury at her home in Beiliu, Guangxi Province.
When the neighbour who found her could not wake the pensioner up, they feared the worst and thought the elderly woman had passed away.
She was placed in a coffin which was kept in her house unsealed under Chinese tradition for friends and relatives to pay respects.
But the day before the funeral, neighbours found an empty coffin, and later discovered the 95-year-old, who had since woken up, in her kitchen cooking.

Lady Gaga haunted by devil
LOS ANGELES: Pop star Lady Gaga believes the devil keeps haunting her during sleep.
The 25-year-old has enlisted the help of Michael Jackson’s former doctor and spiritual adviser Deepak Chopra to try to ward off evil spirits from her “terrifying” dreams.
Chopra helped the late Jackson achieve better sleep and breathing patterns with counselling sessions.
“I have this recurring dream where there’s a phantom in my home and he takes me into a room where there’s a blonde girl with ropes tied to her limbs pulling her apart,” showbizspy.com quoted Gaga as saying.
“I told Deepak the dream was so terrifying I thought somehow that a devil force was trying to take hold of me,” she added.
Gaga has also asked Chopra to help her achieve her dreams of “going into a coma” and levitating.
“I want to go into a coma and levitate. I am a very spiritual person. Deepak is the most influential person in my life. His message is a true inspiration. He helps me to reach inside my spirituality and we take it to the next level,” she said.

Beirut River mysteriously runs blood red
BEIRUT: The Beirut River mysteriously turned blood red Wednesday after a stream of unidentified red liquid began pouring from the southern bank of the river in Furn al-Shubbak. The source of the liquid had yet to be determined Wednesday evening, as the river continued to empty the red-colored water into the Mediterranean Sea.
Government and local officials rushed to the scene at the Chevrolet crossing of Furn al-Shubbak Wednesday morning in an attempt to locate the sewage canal that was dumping the red-colored water but they were unable to locate the source. Accusations were traded among officials from the municipalities of Hadath, Hazmieh, Sin al-Fil, Furn al-Shubbak and Shiyah.
Eyewitnesses working in the area told The Daily Star this was not the first time the river had turned a different color. Several business owners around the Chevrolet crossing said that colored water pours into the river roughly every two months but no one pays attention to it.It was the quantity and brightness of the red liquid that grabbed the attention of many passersby and commuters on different bridges in the city Wednesday.
Environment Minister Nazem Khoury said the source of the water was likely from Hazmieh or Baabda.
“I call on the municipalities of Hazmieh and Baabda to cooperate swiftly to find the source of the pollution and its type,” Khoury said in a statement.
Earlier in the day, Khoury sent an environmental team to the area to examine the water. The team, headed by ministry official Bassam Sabbagh, took a sample of the water to determine its composition and whether it contained dangerous pollutants.

The Return of Kuan Yin: Preparation for 2012?
ook of Revelation:
1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.
Were the above passages from the Book of Revelation referring to Kuan Yin, the Water-Moon Goddess and Goddess of Fertility? In fact, many cultures consider Her to be Mother God. Throughout the millennia and around the world, those seeking truth have reported seeing visions of this deity in Her various and illuminated forms. And while traditional stories of Kuan Yin’s life on earth may vary, recognition of this deity’s compassion is universal:
“Know this! You can go through disaster and I’ll still be here. I’m here for you eternally…I’ll be here until the last soul passes off the earth. I remain in deity form to assist people in transcending their materialistic nature, to help them attain their highest spiritual level.”-Kuan Yin
Kuan Yin’s spiritual teachings instruct that we are vibrational beings who create our reality and that maintaining connection with spirit helps diminish any fear of death, one of the greatest causes of suffering and limitation.
This deity, throughout the millennia, has been renowned for infinite metamorphisms. Regarded as the ‘mother of the human race’, Kuan Yin embodies the essence of compassion within all beings. Worshipped throughout Japan (as Kannon) and mainland Asia, Kuan Yin has many names having many translations, for example: “She who harkens to the cries of the world” or “the Lord who looks upon the world with compassion”. Reverence for Kuan Yin is estimated, by many, to date back to Mother Goddess Devi and the Indus Valley Civilization (3000- 1500 BC).
Beginning in early 2004 ancient deity Kuan Yin once again returned, delivering Her profound wisdom through psychic channel Lena Lees. During the original sessions, Kuan Yin appeared to Ms. Lees’ in various spectacular forms ranging in size from galaxies to a honeybee and as both male and female. Forming such self-creations, the deity is the divine expression of energy.
Stating, “In the end it does not matter what form I take”, Kuan Yin explained how She is magnetized to those having a sincere desire to know truth: “I come to people in many forms, forms constructed from people’s own perceptions. And it is individual spiritual needs that create these unique perceptions.”

Gumon Thong: Black Monk Update
A defrocked Buddhist monk who boasted roasting over a thousand dead babies sealed within special dolls to create a powerful ghosts has been arrested for allegedly tricking women into giving him cash and sex during animist rituals, according to police and anti-corruption officials.
Police, Justice Ministry officials, and Anti-Money Laundering Office agents spent Tuesday sifting through property they seized last week from Harn Raksajit, known as the Black Monk and former associate of Miyuki Ishilkawa, including skulls, Buddhist and Hindu statues, several occult artifacts, a Mercedes Benz, wax dolls, and a large, locked safe.
Harn's clients included several distraught women who claimed he promised to enhance their ability to attract men in exchange for hundreds of dollars, and occasional sexual favors, they gave the occultist.
Physically, Harn displays a freakish appearance with dense "magical" calligraphy and designs tattooed all over his body.
Many Thais believe tattooed quotes from Buddhist and Hindu scripture, written in ancient Pali and Sanskrit, can deflect death, including bullets, car crashes and other danger.

Extraordinary 298-Million-Year-Old Forest Discovered Under Chinese Coal Mine
American and Chinese scientists are flabbergasted after discovering a giant 298-million-year-old forest buried intact under a coal mine near Wuda, in Inner Mongolia, China.
They are calling it the Pompeii of the Permian period because, like the ancient Roman city, it was covered and preserved by volcanic ash.
Like Pompeii, this swamp forest is so perfectly maintained that scientists know where every plant originally was. This has allowed them to map it and to create the images above. This extraordinary finding "is like Pompeii", according to University of Pennsylvania paleobotanist Hermann Pfefferkorn, who characterized it as "a time capsule."
It's marvelously preserved. We can stand there and find a branch with the leaves attached, and then we find the next branch and the next branch and the next branch. And then we find the stump from the same tree. That's really exciting.
They are in fact finding entire trees and plants exactly as they were at the time of the volcanic eruption, just like archeologists in Pompeii found humans, animals and buildings at the base of Mount Vesuvius, near Naples, in the Italian region of Campania. Except Pompeei was buried in AD 79 and this forest was covered in ash 298 million years ago, during the Permian period.

Prehistorical Plant Resurrected 30000 years later (Доисторические завод Воскресший 30000 год спустя россияне )
Biologists have revived a 30,000-year-old plant that last flowered when ancient woolly mammoths roamed the Earth. Cultivated from fruit tissues that were recovered from frozen sediment in Siberia, Silene stenophylla is by far the oldest to be brought back from the dead
The previous record holder was a sacred lotus, which dated back about 1200 years.
The late David Gilichinsky and his colleagues from the Soil Cryology Laboratory in Moscow, Russia, recovered the fruits of the ice age flowering plant from a fossilised squirrel burrow in frozen sediments near the Kolyma river in north-east Siberia.

Li Ching-Yuen, The Amazing 250 Year-Old Man
When the Chinese herbalist Li Ching-Yuen died in 1933, newspapers around the world reported the news of his passing. According to his own testimony, he was 197 years old.
An investigation, however, suggested Li had forgotten his actual birthday. Official government records recorded the birth year as 1677, making him 256. Here is a copy of the obituary as printed in the New York Times on May 6, 1933:
LI CHING-YUN DEAD; GAVE HIS AGE AS 197.
“Keep a Quiet Heart, Sit Like a Tortoise, Sleep Like a Dog,” His Advice for a Long Life.
Reported to have buried 23 wives and had 180 descendents – sold herbs for first 100 years.
Peiping, May 5 – Li Ching-Yun, a resident of Kaihsien, in the Province of Szechwan, who contended that he was one of the world’s oldest men and said he was born in 1736 – which would make him 197 years old – died today.
A Chinese dispatch from Chungking telling of Mr. Li’s death said he attributed his longevity to peace of mind and that it was his belief every one could live at least a century by attaining inward calm.
Compared with estimates of Li Ching-yun’s age in previous reports from China the above dispatch is conservative. In 1930 it was said Professor Wu Chung-chien, dean of the department of Education in Minkuo University, had found records showing Li was born in 1677 and that Imperial Chinese Government congratulated him on his 150th and 200th birthdays.
A correspondent of The New York Times wrote in 1928 that many of the oldest men in Li’s neighborhood asserted their grandfathers knew him as boys and that he was then a grown man.
According to the generally accepted tales told in his province. Li was able to read and write as a child, and by his tenth birthday had traveled in Kansu, Shansi, Tibet, Annam, Siam and Manchuria gathering herbs. For the first hundred years he continued at this occupation. Then he switched to selling herbs gathered by others.
Wu Pei-fu, the warlord, took Li into his house to learn the secret of living to 250. Another pupil said Li told him to “keep a quiet heart, sit like a tortoise, walk sprightly like a pigeon and sleep like a dog.”

Tree Women - Naree Pon
One of the greatest mysteries in Thailand surrounds the existence of Tree Women known as Naree Pon or Makalipon. Naree Pon are like fruit Faeries, females with perfect form and great beauty but miniature in size.
Legend has it that the God Indra ( Phra Indra or Phra-In in Thailand) created a magical forest as a safe abode for Prince Vessantara and his family to live. This forest he called the Himapan Forest. Prince Vessandara was the Lord Buddha in one of his previous lives. In the Himapan Forest, Indra planted 16 magical Nareepon trees.
Lord Indra had two reasons for planting trees with fruits like gorgeous women. The first reason was to catch out the misbehaving Deities who had not been able to overcome their sexual lust. They would be tempted to make love to these tree Fairies and then would immediately fall into a coma. When they awoke they would find their magical powers had disappeared. The second reason was to protect the wife of Prince Vessandara from being pestered by these same sinful Deities.
After the Nareepon flowers blossomed, bunches of Naree Pon would be formed. In 4 days they would drop from the tree and could talk, dance and sing. In just 7 days they would die and start to shrivel until eventually becoming about the size of a person’s hand. Legend states that Nareepon trees will exist until the World no longer has a single person following the teachings of the Lord Buddha.
