Malay Method to transform yourself into a Weretiger

Ritual to infuse the power of prayer into your body:



First, prepare item as below:

1. Some leaves of kafir lime that have been exposed to morning sun

2. Coarse salt

3. Weeds 3 pieces



Crash all the ingredients to fine pieces into a half glass of plain water.



Clean yourself and bring the mixture outside of your house. Find a quiet place so that you will not be disturbed.



Put the glass directly onto the floor a few feet in front of you, and then take posture as if a tiger. Craw until your belly is directly over the glass. When you have done so, recite the above prayer slowly for 444x. After that, blow four breaths towards the water.



Now you can sit cross-legged on the floor and use your right hand to squeeze the mixture in the glass until the aroma is released. After that, wipe the liquid all over your body, pay attention to your face. This is because the heart of hypnotizing power is hidden in the face. But remember, you must control yourself so as not to roar like a tiger … or you will be part of the weretiger family J.





When you have completely rub the water all over your body, then my friend, you will feel your body hair stands up straight as if touched by small static electric charge. Let it be as your body is in the process of absorbing the nutrients and power of a tiger, you are allowed to return home once you feel calmer.



If you heard one roar, then reply with “waalaikummussallam”. If you heard a second roar, then do not respond as this is the challenge of other weretigers.

Malay Weretiger General Knowledge

Harimau Jadian or Weretiger is also known as Hantu Belian. A weretiger is said to be originated from a person who has mastered the art of weretiger or it can be inherited from father to son. Weretigers or Werecats in Asian Mythlogy

Sorcery-Related Violence on the Rise in Papua New Guinea

KUNDIAWA, Apr 9, 2012 (IPS) - An increase in sorcery-related violence and fatalities over the last decade in Papua New Guinea is generating awareness about the lack of development, economic opportunities, inequality and under-resourced health services in rural areas.

In late March, 70-year-old Seni and his 32-year-old son Konia (not their real names) were accused of sorcery following the sudden death of their granddaughter and niece whom they had accompanied to the nearest hospital in the town of Kundiawa for medical attention.

"We brought her to the hospital on Saturday and on Sunday she died and we took her back to the village," Konia recounted. "We don’t know what the cause of her death was."

They were then violently attacked by members of their family and community in a small village in the rural district of Gumine, Simbu Province.

"When we went to the funeral in the village, we went to where the body was," Konia continued. "Then the people started coming out and attacking us."

Konia and his father sustained serious physical injuries.

"They used bush knives. They cut me with a bush knife on my back and shoulder," Konia said. "Then they took me to the (village) toilet, tied me up and pushed my head down into the toilet."

Seni, the elderly father, was beaten until he fell to the ground face-down.

"They then used their boots to kick me on my sides, my back and on my neck until I was unconscious," Seni remembered. "If I had laid face-up, I would have been dead."

The following morning, both father and son were rescued when Konia’s sister Eva (not her real name) telephoned a friend living in Kundiawa who subsequently alerted the police. IPS fears that Eva’s efforts to save their lives have placed her own in danger, as attempts to contact her by mobile phone since the incident have failed.

11) Hantu Bajang




Hantu Bajang is a spirit who takes the form of a fox or polecat and who eats fetuses and drinks the milk of lactating women.

12) Hantu Kopek



A variant is Hantu Kopek (Nipple ghost), who appears as an old woman with pendulous breasts. The striations of pregnancy are said to be the scars left by the attack of the bajang. Sharp metal objects such as scissors placed near the baby will help to protect it from the bajang

13) Polong



Polong is a spirit ghost that can be used by a black magic practitioner to harm someone. It is said to have been created from the blood of a murdered person and this blood is put into a bottle for one to two weeks before the spirit is invoked with incantations and magic spells. The owner must feed the polong daily with blood from his finger.

14) Pelesit



Pelesit is another ghost made by magic, in this case from the tongue of a stillborn child. It enters a house in the form of a cricket or house fly, and spreads misery and unhappiness in advance of the arrival of a polong. It also drinks blood from open cuts or wounds. Both the pelsit and the polong can be forced to reveal the name of their owner through magical questioning.

15) Hantu Raya



A Hantu Raya (great ghost) is the most dangerous of Malay ghosts. It has great strength and can change into any shape, may help its owner become rich and may cause harm or death to the owner's enemies. However, the ghost may also impersonate the owner, making love to his wife. The ghost is said to have a limited range, being unable to go far from its home.

16) Ceplos



Ceplos is a type of childish youthful male ghost which main objective is to protect its owner, especially warding off other black magic practitioner or ghost owner.

17) Hantu Air or Laut



Hantu Air (water phantom) also called Hantu laut (sea phantom) is a water spirit or ghost that lives in rivers, pools or the sea. It may be the ghost of someone who has died through drowning, or may be an independent spirit. Sometimes it appears as a floating log. The ghost or spirit may be dangerous, and may drown or eat people.

18) Hantu Bungkus or Pocong



Hantu Bungkus or Pocong is a ghost wrapped in a shroud that feeds on the blood of babies. It always runs after the victims by the means of jumping as it's hands and legs are tied up or wrapped up.
In some cases, it has been said that it will seek and plead you to untie her/him and in exchange it will grant you only one wish. But again do you really expect them to keep to their words in every case?

Hantu Galah (pole ghost) is a very tall and thin ghost found among the trees and bamboos. To make it disappear, a person simply picks up a stick or twig and breaks it.It is normally female

1) Sang Kelembai



The Sang Kelembai or Gedembai are supernatural beings inhabiting in the forests of Malaysia . Kelembai has powerful magical curse that can turn anyone to stone. Kelembai(s) confines to noise as it is in the forest.
Sang Kelembai is as an ugly woman with thick eyebrows, a flat nose, big elephant ears, fanged teeth, and about three times the size of a normal person. Feda on the soft top leaves of bamboo plants and occasionally fruit and meat.

It has the power of transforming any human or animal into stone and non other forms. For a Kelembai to turn someone to turn into stone, the Kelembai has to begin with by talking to that person or animal, and this can made her even more deadly.

2) Malaysian Dragon




The Malaysian Dragon or Naga (Draco naga) – are species found in the East Indies – modern day Malaysia, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea which has been long feared by Malay mariners who called it the Naga.

The Malaysian Dragon has been known to reach lengths of 30 feet, thrice the length of the largest known Komodo Dragons. Unlike the Komodo Dragon, the Malaysian Dragon is comfortable at sea and on land, much in the manner of the Arabian Dragon of Red Sea areas. It preys on all manner of wildlife, including forest hogs, birds, deer, fish, sea snakes, crabs, and yes humans.

This dangerous of the dragons, are constant bane to fishermen in the region, often striking small fishing craft with tremendous force, throwing the occupants in the water to be consumed. They are no less a danger in the jungle and in isolated villages, and have discouraged settlement in some of the more remote regions of the archipelago.

They are known to be responsible for many deaths, even into the 20th century they were known to kill explorers and anthropologists working in New Guinea and downed Japanese and Allied aviators in the region during the Second World War. One popular theory has it that a Naga ate Amelia Earhart in her abortive world flight, though in truth where she perished is well out of their known range.

This dragon once ranged into the southern Philippines, but a concerted effort by the United States military resulted in their eradication in the first few decades of the 20th century, after a number of servicemen were eaten during the Philippine Insurrection. There was a plan by the CIA during the Vietnam War to attempt to populate the species in North Vietnam, to deny the Gulf of Tongking to North Vietnamese fishermen and present a threat to shipping. Howard Hughes was even involved, and constructed a special ship, the St. George, to carry them to the region, but the plan was aborted (though provided Hughes’ company valuable experience for the later Glomar Explorer, used to salvage a sunken Soviet sub).

3) Jentayu



In the Hindu epic Ramayana, Jatayu (Sanskrit: जटायू Jatāyū, Tamil: Chatayu, Thai: Sadayu, Malay: Jentayu or Chentayu) is the son of Aruṇa and nephew of Garuda. A demi-god who has the form of a vulture, he was an old friend of Dasharatha (Rama's father). He tries to rescue Sita from Ravana when Ravana is on his way to Lanka after kidnapping Sita.

4) Garuda



The Garuda (or giant eagle) has a significant place in many Asian legends and history. Garuda is the Malay form of the Phoenix (or the Roc). The Japanese call the Garuda, Karura. In fact, Thailand and Indonesia have the Garuda as their national symbols: The Indonesian national airline is Garuda Indonesia while the Garuda (the king of birds) is also known in Thailand as Krut Pha (a sign of Royal family).

5) Jin


A Jin or spirit from the beliefs of the West Malay people of West Malaysia. He is the guardian of a state known as ‘Royal Musical Instruments’ and he is subject to the King of Jinns, Sang Gala Raja

6) Golbin ( Toyol or Tuyul or Tiyanak )



A Toyol or Tuyul or Tiyanak is a mythical spirit in the Malay mythology of South-East Asia (notably in Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippine and Singapore).
They can be a small child spirit which is invoked by Dukun (Indonesian shaman) or Bomoh (Malay witch doctor) from a dead human fetus by the means of black magic. Any person can also easily accuquire a Golbin from a Dukun or Bomoh.

Such Golbin can also be babies that died before receive the rites of baptism. After death, they enter place known as Limbo, which is a chamber for unbaptized dead people and such group of dead people are being transformed into evil spirits known to be as Phautasms. Phautasms would then return back into the mortal world as the form of goblins to feast on the living.

However, such golbin can also be the offspring between a demon and a woman . It can as well be the aborted fetus, which comes to life to take revenge on its mother. They are very vengeful creatures.

The owner of such golbin uses it mainly to steal things from other people, or to do mischief. According to a well-known superstition, if money or jewellery keeps disappearing mysteriously from your house, a goblin might be responsible.

A good way to ward off a toyol is to place some needles under your money. This is because goblins are afraid of being hurt by needles.

According to Javanese mythology, the creature is believed to be kept by a person that practicing pesugihan tuyul black magic. This magic helps people to become rich instantly, but in exchange he or she must perform some rituals or offering tumbal (sacrifice something) to keep the goblin happy. The exchange would be that a female member of the family must allow it to breastfeed from her, sucking blood instead of milk.

Most goblins are said to live in forests. If they see a human, they transform into what looks like a normal baby. When the person notices the goblin and comes near to take a look at it, that's when the goblin changes back to its true form and eats its prey.


7) A Bao A Qu



In the Malaysian mythology there is a creature by the name of A Bao A Qu is generally accepted as being pronounced Abang Aku, which means my elder brother

A Bao A Qu was those gods that were caught in this dimension when the gateway closed being unable to return Because it was caught in this world and needed to be able to cross over into its own dimension, it has become attached and dependent on human behavior, beliefs and karma.

8) Pontianak



Pontianak is a Malay vampire. Said to be the ghost of a woman who died during pregnancy or childbirth, or the vengeful spirit of a woman murdered by her own lover. Commonly spotted at the roadside or under a tree, sometime accompanied by a baby. Pontianak appear to be young and beautiful so as to entice men to come near, whereby she would then turn into an ugly old woman with sharp teeth who will attack the victim and try to drink their blood. She can be killed by an iron nail driven into her neck, however if the nail is ever removed she will come back to life. She is depicted as wearing a full white dress, which can be bloodstained, with very long hair, long fangs and long fingernails. When she is close to you, she gives off a strong smell like flowers.

9) Kuntilanak

Similiar to Pontianak is the Indonesian Kuntilanak. It commonly takes the form of a bird and sucks the blood of virgins and young women. When a man approaches the Kunitilanak when it is in a female form, she would suddenly turns and reveals that her back is hollow. The bird, which makes a "ke-ke-ke" sound as it flies, may be sent through black magic to make a woman sick, the characteristic symptom being vaginal bleeding

10) Penanggalan



Penanggalan is another type of female vampire who is attracted to the blood of new born infants. Basically it is only the head of a woman with intestines and stomach below the head, from which her entrails trail is used to grasp her victim.

The Philippine Manananggal is a similar vampire who can separate her upper torso from her lower body in order to fly in the night with huge bat-like wings to prey on unsuspecting, pregnant women in their homes, using an elongated proboscis-like tongue.A similar concept is also found with the Thai Krasue

What are Filipino Vampires All About ? ( Ano ang Philippine Bampira Lahat ng Tungkol sa? )

The Philippines does has a few versions of Vampires. Some of their Vampires shared similiarities with Malay Vampires. While Malays has 3 types of Vampires, Philippines has 4 !Filipino Vampires are classified as the undead where else Malay Vampires are regarded as Ghost classifications.

Same like any other Asian Vampires, Philippine vampires also have problems crossing water as in like lake and rivers etc...... by their normal means.

The Below would be the various types of Philippine vampires.

Aswang



An Aswang is often being mistaken and confused for a Mananaggal due to their similarities. However, there are differences.

Aswang has the ability to transform to many types of animals and attack at their victims. There are a very grades of Aswang. Some transformed into Wolves or Dogs while some others very big birds of the night or other forms of animals like snake or even wild boar etc...


Aswang loves eating on Children, Woman (especially pregnant ones) Baby, Human liver and Hearts besides sucking blood.

Mananaggal on the other hand do not have the ability of transformations. It is a human whose upper half is being split out and has wings from behind.

Aswangs can be of any Genders where else in the usual case, Mananggal are in the usual case of woman.

Aswang Tik Tik or Wak Wak or Soc Soc


This is basically a very Bat like creature with a human head and face that looks very monstrous.

This Huge Bat like bird prowls during the night in search of sleeping people as it's victim and in many cases, pregnant woman. It will extend a very long proboscis into it's victim to suck blood and while doing so, a Tik Tik sound can be heard.

Sounds made by the Tik Tik is very faint which confuses people who hears the sound into thinking that this Aswang is still far away in which however in actual case it is of the opposite.

How to recognize an Aswang
If you have a bottle of oil made from coconut mixed with certain plant stems and that special prayers has been made, an Aswang can be revealed. When the Aswang is near, this oil will boil non stop until the Aswang leavers the premises. Aswang are said to abhor garlic.

Behaviour / Characteristics
A regular towns person by day and prefer an occupation related to meat, such as butchery.

Aswangs have an ageless appearance and a quiet, shy and elusive manner.

They can be distinguished from humans by bloodshot eyes from staying up all night looking for opportunities to sneak into houses where funeral wakes are being held, and stealing the dead bodies.

According to the elderly, the aswang can also transform from human to animal and animal to human.

Supposedly if a person looks at them in the eyes, the reflection would appear inverted. During their nocturnal activities, they walk with their feet facing backwards.

Protection against Aswang
The Stingray's tail or Buntot Pagi using it as a whip can be a very good weapon against an Aswang. Other things like Shiny stering silver swords have effects on them as well.


Salt can be used on them and it will cause their skin to burn . Semen is said to irritate them and phallic objects will terrify the Aswang.

A red pouch full of Ginger and coins can be very handy as well. Ginger keeps them away from you and coin prevents them from lifting you up into the sky.

Manananggal


A Manananggal is something like the malay verison of Penanggalan. Often, Manananggal is often mistaken for the Aswang version ofTik Tik (Wak Wak or Soc Soc).

Similar to the Malay Penanggalan, the Manananggal feasts on pregnant woman, fetus, babies and woman. Very seldom, grown up males are it's victim.

Manananggal is a half witch half vampire creatures whose upper half of the body splits out from the lower body and has wings branching out from the back of the body.

Manananggal takes it's form as either an old woman or a very beautiful young lady and lives in secluded places. It hunts during full moon.



Should one find the lower torso of the Manananggal, Sprinkle salt or sand on it like never before. A even better way would be to burn it's lower half body. This is make it impossible for this creature to revert or transform back to a human and live during the day. As a result of such, this creature will vanquish upon the first rays of sunlight for good.



It has been said that should one wants to be undected by the Manananggal when it is out on the hunt for you, smear yourself with the juice or ooze from the lower half body that is being left behind by the Manananggal and it will not be able to detect you.

To know if a person is a Manananggal, observed if her reflections of you inside of her eyes is upside down. You can use a woman in her true Manananggal form if you bend over in head in between legs position to view them.

With cloves of garlic or onion around windows, doors, etc. It can repelling this creature from getting near or entering your premises.

To the very maximum, the ringing of the Catholic Church Bells can prevent the Mananaggal from hunting for that very night.

Mandurugo (Mandurago)


A Filipino vampire found in the region of Capiz, said to appear as a beautiful woman during the day and as a foul flying fiend at night. The Mandurugo ("bloodsucker") uses her beauty to attract and wed young men, thus providing her with a constant blood supply.

There is a story of mandurugo that describes her as a Girl with Many Loves. In the story, the young woman was described as one of the most beautiful to live in the land. She married at the age of 16. Her husband, a husky youth, withered away in less than a year. After his death, she married again, with the same result. She married a third time and then a fourth. The fourth husband, having been warned, feigned sleep one night holding a knife in his hand. Soon after midnight he felt a presence over him and then a prick on his neck. He stuck the knife into the creature on top of him. He heard a screech and the flapping of wings. The next day his bride was found dead some distance from the house with a knife wound in her chest.

Bampira ( Almost Similiar to Western Vampire)



The Bampira is almost as good as saying that it is a western vampire. It is simply too similiar to a western vampire except that instead of having 2 sharp fangs, A Bampira has multiple ! Not forgeting long tongue as well.

Another Version for the Bampira would be the Amalanhig!



Amalanhig

Amalanhig looks almost like a human being except that it has longer upper canines. For Aswangs who were not successful in transferring their monstrosity, they rise from their graves to killing humans by biting their necks hence, becoming into Amalanhig

A good way to escape from an Amalanhig is to run in zigzag direction as an Amalanhig can but only walk in straight direction as their body is stiff. What is a Malay Vampire All About ? ( Apakah Melayu Vampire All About? )

Basically to say, Malay has 3 types of Vampires.

The First is known as a Langsuyar and second type is known as a Pontianak, the 2 are often confused to be the same but they are not. The third type is known as the Penanggalan.

Same as the Chinese Vampires or any other Asian Vampires, They, likewise have some trouble and problems crossing waters. Waters as in like rivers, lakes etc...

In comparison, Malay Vampires are ghost like and are viewed as Ghosts. Ghost and Vampires are almost the same to them. Chinese Vampires on the other hand, it really depends. Some are very Zombie like, Some very Beastly like and others the undead or immortal classification.

Langsuyar
Other names : Langsuior



She is Basically described as a banshee like flying demon. She was said to be woman of extreme beauty. She died of Childbirth basically. She resents her life & felt sad that her beloved child was taken away from her. She wants others to share the same fate as her. eventually led to her becoming into a monster , known as the Langsuyar for she was unable to accept this fact based on stories of her Orgins.

This Langsuyar is often being described as wearing a green robe, Long finger nails & long black hair up to the ankle length. She has a hole in her neck.

To guard against a Langsuyar, hang a thorny branch across the entrance of your home. She will believe that she cannot enter without being horribly scratched.

At the very beginning, Langsuyar only suck blood of children, but as a matter of time she turned into a flesh eater.

In the usual stories, it is all about a mother becoming into a monster because of her children, for the love of her children.

Malay Woman are believed to become into a Langsuyar if she died during Childbirth or 40 days immediately after the child was born. To prevent it, her family would place glass beads in her mouth to stop any banshee like Shrieks. To prevent her from flying, eggs would be placed under her arms and a needle poked in the palm of each hand at point of childbirth.

To Tamed a Langsuyar, you will need to capture it first and then cut off her nails and hair and then stuffing them into the hole of her neck. When this is done, this Langsuyar would become domesticated and could live among the humans, normally.

Claims have been made of, tamed Langsuyar who lived and got married in the local village and eventually bore children. However, their new life ended usually at a village party when they began to dance. Suddenly, they would revert to their more spirit like form and fly off to the jungle, leaving husband and child behind.

Pontianak



A Potianak is both a Ghost and a Vampire of the Malay version and has similiarities with a Chinese Vampire. To the Malays, they would see the Potianak and the Chinese Vampire ( Jiang Shi) as the same with no differences. It has been said that Potianaks are much more powerful and fearsome than Western Vampires.

Potianak were believed to be Child of a Langsuyar. They could changed into an owl during the night.



They feed on pregnant woman, infants, fetus & Children. Only sharp objects can be used to deal with a Pontianak. The more Sharp and prickly it is , the better ! A nail has to been driven into her neck and she will be reverted back into the woman she used to be once, as her original form. The second method to stop her will be that you will have to disrobe yourself but before doing so, one needs to be ugly, a ugly body !

To have a Potianak trapped and to be by your bidding, one must tie a red thread from a Banana Tree to the foot and sleep on your bed. Think of a beautiful with your imaginations. Be as Imaginative as possible. Through your thoughts, she will appear in front of you at your bed.

Be very careful about the red thread! She trapped and is under your every command due to that thread. She has a very strong desire to be freed. If she is successful, You are definitely Finished !

To release the Pontianak that is under a person's bidding, remove the pins or needles that is located at her tree. Once you do so, she is being released from her sufferings and will seek absolute revenge on her master controlling her.

When things go out of hand, there is only way to stop this Banana Tree spirit Potianak , which is to have her banana tree chopped off with only one strike. You have one chance and her tree must be chop off the first time right with only just one chop. If you fail to do so, You fail to stopped her ! SO GOOD LUCK to you ! Best that you don't even do it in the first place.

Penanggalan
Other Names : Hantu Penanggal / Penanggal



A Penanggalan is something similar to the Philippines Aswang or Mananaggal.
The Philippines Aswang or Mananaggal is upper half Woman body that has been detached from a full human body and has wings when it flies. The Penanggalan on the other hand is just a head of woman with her internal organs like her stomach and intestines tangling below her and She flies.

Both the Mananaggal and the Penanggalan shared some Austronesian roots and hence the two distinct culturally in terms of appearances and behaviors.



From afar especially her tangling organs, it looks like the twinkling of fireflies as the Penanggalan flies during the night. During the day time and at any time when she did not detached herself from her body, she is just like any human like you and me.

Orgins of her is about a woman involved with black magic or a woman who dabbles with demonic powers.
tales speaks of woman who wants supernatural powers but had made a broken pact with the demon she fails not to eat meat within 40 days and was hence punished by the demon who turned her into a Vampire known as the Penanggalan.



Some other origins speaks of a priestess or an ordinary beautiful woman who was having a ritual bath in a tub that once held vinegar in the wild. While bathing herself and in a state of concentration or meditation. A man who wanted to watch her bath, entered the room without any warning and startled her. During her shocked, She jerked her head up to look who was this man and moved too quickly that in the process of an accident, her head was sever from her body with her organs and entrails pulling out of the neck opening by some tree branch or some sort.

She was so furious on what this man has caused to her ! She flew after him with her empty body left in vat. Her organs was dripping with Venom. Hence, it is said that the Penanggal carries an odar of Vinegar with her wherever she flies. Even during day time when she passes off as an ordinary mortal woman, there is still some odor of Vinegar from her body. That is one of the ways to identify a Penanggal if she is among one of you.



Penanaggal has been described to be able move through walls and ooze up through the cracks in the floorboards of a house. She can also move her intestines like tentacles during her attack.

A person can also become one when under a powerful curse or a under a demonic force. A Mananaggal has only 2 fangs but the Penanggal has a Mouthful of Fangs.

New tribe discovered in Papua New Guinea

A tribe of hunter gatherers living in trees in the remote forests of Indonesia's easternmost Papua region has been discovered for the first time by the country's census, an official said on Thursday.



The nomadic tribe, called Koroway, numbers about 3,000 people speaking their own language and living off animals and plants in the forest, census officials found during the country's 2010 census survey.

"Their houses are in trees, their life is stone age," said Suntono, head of Indonesia's statistics agency for the Papua region, adding the tribe built ladders to huts in tall trees.

After receiving reports from missionaries, census officials needed to walk for up to two weeks to find the tribe, after travelling by boat from the nearest permanent villages, but still only reached the fringes of their territory.

The nearest city to the swampy southeastern corner of Papua is Merauke, the site of a planned giant food estate attracting interest from investors such as Singapore's Wilmar (WLIL.SI) to grow sugar.

Papua New Guinea Witch Hunts

Nearly all the residents of Koge watched as Julianna Gene and Kopaku Konia were dragged from their homes, to be hung from trees and tortured for several hours with bush knives. No one came forward to help. In the eyes of the villagers, the women were witches. They deserved to die.

"They used their powers to bewitch a man to death," said Kingsley Sinemane, a community leader. "We had to get rid of them, as they could have killed others. We had to protect our village."

A shocking increase in witch-hunt deaths in Papua New Guinea has prompted the government to launch a parliamentary commission of inquiry with a view to toughening the law. Joe Mek Teine, the chairman of the nation's law reform commission, has publicly declared that sorcery killings are "getting out of hand". Most witch hunts happen in the Highlands, the remote mountainous interior wracked by centuries of tribal wars and blood feuds. Contact with the outside world was only established in the 1930s, when some of the many ethnic groups were still living stone-age existences. Although there are no official statistics on sorcery killings, more than 50 were reported to the police in just two Highland provinces last year.

Papua New Guinea Woman suspected of witchcraft burned alive

A woman in rural Papua New Guinea was bound and gagged, tied to a log and set ablaze on a pile of tires this week, possibly because villagers suspected her of being a witch, police said Thursday.

Her death adds to a growing list of men and women who have been accused of sorcery and then tortured or killed in the South Pacific island nation, where traditional beliefs hold sway in many regions.

The victims are often scapegoats for someone else's unexplained death, and bands of tribesmen collude to mete out justice to them for their supposed magical powers, police said.

Emory University anthropology professor Bruce Knauft, who lived in a village in the western province of Papua New Guinea in the early 1980s, traced family histories for 42 years and found that one in three adult deaths were homicides -- "the bulk of these being collective killings of suspected sorcerers," he wrote in his book, "From Primitive to Postcolonial in Melanesia and Anthropology."

In recent years, as AIDS has taken a toll in the nation of 6.7 million people, villagers have blamed suspected witches -- and not the virus -- for the deaths.

According to the United Nations, Papua New Guinea accounts for 90 percent of the Pacific region's HIV cases and is one of four Asia-Pacific countries with an epidemic.

"We've had a number of cases where people were killed because they were accused of spreading HIV or AIDS," Kauba said.

While there is plenty of speculation why Tuesday's victim was killed, police said they are focused more on who committed the crime.

"If it is phobias about alleged HIV/AIDS or claims of a sexual affair, we must urge the police and judiciary to throw the book at the offenders," the Post-Courier wrote in an editorial.

"There are remedies far, far better than to torture and immolate a young woman before she can be judged by a lawful system.

Malay Spiritual Healing

MANY Malaysians are no strangers to the workings of faith/spiritual healers, and there have been numerous TV programmes documenting these healers.



Today I would like to share with you about two female spiritual healers. One is from my home town Kota Baru, Kelantan, and the other is from China. They are among the most fascinating I have ever encountered.




Puan Lin

Puan Lin (or just “Lin” as she is commonly known) is in her 40s. She’s originally from Java, Indonesia, and settled in Kelantan after marrying a Malaysian. They are blessed with seven children

Several years ago, she had a dream that she was to start healing people. Her first patient was her own relative, who was bed-ridden. After her “treatment”, he recovered. That gave her confidence to treat others, and the word spread like wildfire. Now her “clinic” is always crowded.

Lin starts diagnosing the cause of the ailment or problem as soon as the “patient” introduces himself to her. Her speciality is in diagnosing and reversing black magic. Every patient is required to bring an egg for the diagnosis, and a bottle of water for her to supplicate upon. She will roll the egg over the patient’s back and then break the egg. Needles, rusty nails, hair, seeds, and countless other items have been found in the eggs which were brought by the patients.

I have observed these many times at close range, sitting or standing just beside her while she was treating the patients. Each session lasts only a few minutes, and each patient is asked to telephone her in the evening for further instructions.

Note that the patients brought their own eggs. This is important because healers often have been accused of cheating by putting these items inside the eggs and cleverly concealing the breaks in the eggs. To put in nails and larger objects without breaking the eggs would require extreme ingenuity.

She is now pregnant with her eighth child, and had actually decided to stop her “clinic” to concentrate on her pregnancy. However, people kept knocking on her door for help, and she relented. So even with a bulging tummy, she patiently treats over 200 people each day.

Many people have benefited from Lin’s treatment, ranging from physical ailments to spiritual angst. If you were to study the cases that come to her, you will realise that so many people have physical ailments that actually have spiritual causes behind them, and that many physical ailments are amenable to spiritual healing

Japanese World War II ship shelled pterosaur caves

Three days ago, I received an email from R.K. (anonymous), of the Manus Island area of Papua New Guinea. (We starting communicating earlier this month.) The nocturnal flying creatures that he described to me–I believe they are ropens–were common and were dangerous to local fishermen previous to the early 1940’s, when their numbers declined. In these northern islands, the creature is called “kor.”

10 mysterious cryptids of Asia (Part 2)

1) Almas



The Almas is a hominid cryptid said to inhabit the Caucasus and Pamir Mountains of central Asia, and the Altai Mountains of southern Mongolia.

Through alleged eyewitness accounts, alleged footprint discoveries and interpretations of long-standing native traditions that have been anthropologically collected.

Experts have declared that they are either just mythological creatures or a relict population of Neanderthals. Others have claimed that they are humans, but with mental disorders and thus discarded from society.

2) Buru



Said to have lived in a certain province of India in the past, the Buru was an aquatic reptile-like cryptid. This reptile was reportedly hunted to extinction by the locals.

Traditional speculation was that the Buru was actually a crocodile. However, the locals describe the Buru as having characteristics such as an elongated neck and a forked tongue. This would place it looking similar to a monitor lizard.

Some experts claim it to be a large species of lungfish instead.

3) The Devil Bird



The Devil Bird or commonly known as the Ulama, is a cryptid that dwells in the Sri Lankan jungles. It is said to emit a blood thirsty scream at night while flying. It is said that its scream is a portent of death.

From local witnesses descriptions, it would closely resemble an owl actually. In 2001, a Spot-Bellied Eagle Owl was captured and was believed to be the mythical Devil Bird in question.

4) Kting Voar



Also known as the Snake Eating Cow, the Kting Voar is a cryptid from Cambodia and Vietnam.

The creature is normally described as a cow-like animal with peculiar twisting horns about 45 centimetres long. The local myths attribute a number of feats to this animal; most particularly, snakes are part of its diet.

Specimens collected and tested were either fake or found out to belong to a normal cow. Many experts do believe in the existence of this animal, and it is actually listed as Endangered in the IUCN list.

5) Ropen



The Ropen is a flying cryptid from the jungles of Papua New Guinea. It is described as featherless and having a tail length of 25% of its wingspan.

Various accounts either describe it as a demonic spirit, a bat-like animal or a Pterosaur. It is believed to be nocturnal and exhibits bioluminescence and thrives on a diet of fish and sometimes human flesh.

Many expeditions to the Papua New Guinea to observe the creature have reported seeing weird flying lights in the jungle at night. Till date, no explanation can be given for such phenomena.

6) Akkorokamui



Akkorokamui is a water cryptid from Japan. It is said to resemble either a giant octopus or a giant squid. Its most striking feature is its red coloured skin.

Although it is said to grow to an enormous size and despite is striking skin colouration, so far, it has only been spotted from far distances.

The locals are understandably afraid of it, as it has been known to capsize boats. They would bring along sickles in their boats to protect themselves from this creature.

7) Veo



The Veo is a cryptid said to dwell on the island of Rinca, Indonesia. It is describe to resemble a scaly ant-eater or pangolin, and has the size of a horse.

No modern pangolins grow to that size, but there was evidence that a large pangolin that grew up to 8 feet lived on the nearby islands of Java and Borneo.

The Veo is described as being a nocturnal, mountain-dwelling creature, subsisting on a diet of ants and termites. Cryptozoologists have suggested that the Veo may represent a relict population of the extinct Manis paleojavanicus.

8) Lake Van Monster



Living in Lake Van in Eastern Turkey, comes the appropriately named Lake Van Monster. Similar to other lake monsters in other parts of the world, it has been described to be either a Plesiosaur or Ichthyosaurus.

In 1997, a man reportedly shot a video of the monster swimming in the lake. After careful examination by experts, many have questioned its authenticity. It is likely to be a hoax.

Skecptics also point out that such a hoax would bring tourist revenue to this region of Turkey.

9) Mande Barung



The Mande Barung is said to inhibit within the remote forests of North East India and Bangladesh.

It is generally described as a large, hairy bipedal hominoid, similar to its cousins the Bigfoot, Yeti, Orang Pendek, etc.

Most scientific experts consider the Mande Barung to be a combination of folklore and hoaxes.

10) Simurgh



The Simurgh is a mythical flying creature similar to a griffin or phoenix. It is commonly found in Persian myths and legends.

The Simurgh has been described as having the foreparts of a dog, the wings and tail of a peacock and the claws of a lion, gigantic enough to carry off an elephant or a whale.

Ultimately, experts believe it to be just a mythological and legendary creature, rather than an actual animal.
