Why Spells Fail and What to Do About Them

One of the common issues with any kind of spell work is knowing when to say when. When do you stop working on the issue? When do you stop trying to get that old lover back? When do you stop trying to get a job at that company? It's an interesting dilemma because we know that magic works, but on the other hand we know that sometimes we aren't meant to have certain things in life. So when do you say "when"?

Ultimately, setting a deadline is a good idea for any goal - for your own peace of mind and for love of your own self. There is no reason to torture yourself for any job you can't get, or any man you can't get, or any apartment you can't get. There is plenty in this world and you will always find a better option after you've moved on from that goal.

10 reasons why love spells don't work

1. You have unrealistic expectations. If you live in Picayune, Mississippi and you are casting a spell to make Criss Angel love you, well, your chances of success are pretty slim...especially if you have never even met the guy! There needs to be a strong connection to the person to begin with, and a basis from which love can be nurtured and sparked. Furthermore, love spells do not work overnight. Magick is often a process that involves removing obstacles and clearing unwanted influences, and realigning and maneuvering energies to affect change for the best possible result.

2. Magick is not guaranteed. Just as prayers to the creator may go seemingly unanswered, there may be a reason that a spell does not work. It may be that the Universe has different plans for you. This reason is very hard for some people to accept.

3. You are taking shortcuts. To be a powerful and effective conjurer, you must have the right tools, focus, and mindset. Power results from the use of traditional ingredients such as roots, oils, and powders, from the use of traditional tools such candles and a knife, from performing powerful ritual techniques such as those passed down in the Voodoo tradition for thousands of years, and from having a traditional altar or work space.

4. You doubt the power of magick and you do not "believe" in your own personal power. Magick systems are based on faith. If you do not believe in the possibility of shifting energy and in your ability to attract certain energy your way, and if you do not believe in the power of the Spirits that you may be asking for a favor, you are wasting your time and money.

5. You are stalking and/or harassing your desired mate. Do not threaten or terrorize, attempt to coerce or intimidate, or start calling or emailing your desired lover. To do so will reverse any spell performed on your behalf. You need to create and allow space for the correct energies to align and work in your favor.

6. You are being scammed. Bar none, this is the most common reason love spells do not work. You have paid someone to perform a spell and they never do what they were paid to do, nor did they ever intend to do what they were paid to do. Unfortunately, there are many people out there who are just waiting to prey on your emotional grief and desperation. An authentic practitioner will have a conversation with you about your situation and assess your expectations and the likelihood of success. They will give you an honest appraisal of your request and will not take your money if there is little chance of the spell working.

7. You do not provide complete and accurate information to the spellcaster. An authentic practitioner will petition your requests in a formal ritual on your behalf based upon the information you provide. If you do not provide the correct information, or if you lie about the situation and expect the practitioner to "magically" make your ex fall back in love with you (even though you were abusive, for example), the spell will not work and may in fact, backfire. The Spirits are not stupid and do not take kindly to attempts to fraud or manipulate them. Voodoo Spirits are exceptionally powerful and keen to such shenanigans, and you will have no one to blame except yourself if you end up with the exact opposite of what you wanted.

8. You are obsessing over your love spell or Voodoo love spell. Obsession is fueled by desperation. These feelings attract negativity and will weaken any spell being performed.

9. You fail to address any underlying obstacles or issues. Many times there are unwanted influences creating an obstacle to the union or reunion of two people. These obstacles can be external, such as other people, or internal, such as a lack of confidence or self-worth. A cleansing of some sort should always be performed to clear the path for the Divine energies to do their work.

10. You talk about the spellwork to others. Under no circumstance should you discuss your spellwork with anyone under any conditions. To do so will weaken the power of the spell and will in essence, create an obstacle that wasn't there to begin with.

Love Spell that backfire ( Yahoo answers)

My love spell backfired help?
i put a love spell on a boy that i had a crush on

i put it so that he could not stop thinking about me
and would love me and would bind our hearts together

the words kinda go like this let his soul not rest till he love me....
but instead of him showing interest and liking me

he has given me mean stares
he used to like me
and also i think the spell has backfired - cuz
because i cried all night yesterday- i wanted him soooo bad...
i was getting all depressed and i just wanted him
in other words my soul seemed like it wouldnt rest in peace till i found him

what causes a to spell to backfire?

=================================================================================

I agree with parts of the answers given here but the basic problem is that what you really wanted was to create a love zombie and "couched" it as a "love" spell! That just twists the energy and then the intention is not 'pure' as in undiluted!

Love for another person means you want the best for them, not to control them.

I suppose you are lucky he didn't turn out to be a stalker... just another way the spell coulda bit you!

LOL We dark witches have a saying,"Be careful what you wish for!"

What Does Love Spell really do ?

Spells to promote love are effective and do have a proper place in the magical
community. Love spells, if cast correctly, are not harmful for the caster, or the
client. They can repair broken relationships, steer a friendship into a more romantic
direction, and attract true love.

Some people, out of ignorance, claim that love spells manipulate the target,
depriving them of their free will. This is true only of the crudest of spells - any
experienced spell caster or witch knows to avoid spells of this nature. In fact, spells
that deprive an individual of free will are actually more difficult, and less successful,
to cast than are standard spells of attraction. Typically, romance spells only bring
out a love that we all have within us. Spells that increase love may also increase the
magnetic attraction between two individuals by creating an energetic or spiritual
link. While two people might realize they are suddenly more attracted to each other,
this is not something that would change or alter their free will. Each person could, if
they so chose, decide to avoid the other. However, when two people are attracted
and in love they usually don't choose to do this!

Countless people have been helped by spells that attract love, but I have never
heard of anyone being harmed by one. Romance spells are safe and helpful, and
can only bring positive things to people who really want true love. Spells can bring
true love. They can even help you to make up with someone, steer a friendship into
a more romantic direction, and attract love.

While it is not advisable to try and force someone to love you by using love spells,
you can ask that your true love come to you. Or, that you are receptive to love and
naturally attract the right love for you. There are love spells and sex spells for all
kinds of romantic desires.

Using love spells to win over a person is not just unethical, but can have various
negative effects on the person who casts the spells. These black magic love spells
may live up to their claims, but for a short time only. The negative energies built out
of the attempt to control the natural course of energy affect the caster of the spell.
It invalidates the fundamental rules of love that are built on mutual respect,
admiration and the need for companionship.

There are different kinds of love spells, from simple and innocent ones to those that
require the use of elaborate rituals, charms and magical spells. There are magical
love spells to make up after a misunderstanding, become more than just friends,
rejuvenate a stale love life, increase sexual magnetism, attract the person of one's
dreams, etc. Love spells can differ according to different cultures and traditions.

Magical love spells are energy that is directed through symbols or props to bring
about the desired change or achieve a certain end. Spell casting experts believe
that everything in this world has dynamic energy. By using various magical tools
they help to generate more energy, which is directed to change the natural course
of a particular event. Spellcasting entails mental power and psychological tools of
concentration, visualization, and projection that are developed through practice.

Magical love spells can direct energy either for subtle suggestion to the mind or by
directly affecting the exterior world. A magical love spell's energy is often bound for
a particular cause and for a certain period, so that in doesn't cause any harm.

The philosophy of casting spells is based on the law of attraction and the principle
of universal energy. Magic is considered as a form of art that mixes old practices
and beliefs with divine forces or energies. When a person who practices white
magic discovers his or her ability to control divine powers, this person then
becomes capable of using magic to make changes in the world.

When will you see results? That is the big question pertaining to all Spell Castings
and Spell Casters. The answer is actually not very simple. You see, every Spell
Casting is meant for a different case or situation. Every case is different so every
spellcasting will produce different results at a different time frame.

WereLions of the Middle East & Africa

Legends tell of Saharan kings who could turn into lions when their tribes were endangered. The Mfalme were a race of kings, shapeshifters believed to have been descended from the gods. Their lines ran in nobility of various tribes, and they were strongly integrated with humans. Mfalme were so strongly integrated with humans that there were no wild clans at all. Despite the presence of an Asiatic subspecies of leo pantheris, there were no natural werelions found outside of sub-Saharan Africa.

A werelion is born, as are many other Shifters, but they are the product of a double-recessive gene. They must have both of the werelion genes before the traits will express and the person will be born a werelion. This means that if two Mfalme have children, they will be born a werelion, but any other combination has varying rates. Mfalme can safely parent Tau-Kin, and human children. Unlike werewolves the ability is entirely inherited, and therefor the Mfalme/Tau/Simba cannot infect a human.

Werelions are associated mildly with the sun, similarly as the werewolves to the lunar cycle, but their lives are not nearly so dictated by it. They grow weak during a solar eclipse, and solar flares can affect them. Strong solar flares can provide a peak in power, and when they are present during the birth of a child can have varying and interesting effects.

The werelions are an interesting singularity among their bretheren, in that they do not shift as often as their cousins. Their shifting was not triggered specifically by puberty or high stress situations, but by the need to protect their lands and tribe. Most Mfalme spent a lot of time as humans, but once they had experienced their first shift they could attain their beast form at-will. The leo form, an equivalent of Fire-blooded, was almost always triggered by extreme feelings of defense.

The Mfalme strike a fine line between the female-backboned prides of wild lions, and the primarily patriarchal sub-Saharan human cultures that they integrated with. The males ruled as kings, princes, and warriors, but the females demanded a level of egalitarian society that was very rarely seen. The queens and princesses took a more active role in the life of the pride, often with their own hunting parties, and being advisors and occasionally even military leaders in times of war. Mfalme born to those not of the royal houses would, if allowed, become prominent figures among their tribe, as strong warriors and hunters.

Mfalme can occasionally be found in the north as well, being descended from Tau-Kin that were taken as slaves by the Muslim traders. They are not unwelcome as long as they respect Islam, and converts are simply another member of society. Very rarely, one would be born in the Americas due to the slave trade. In the event that they ever did shift and realize their heritage, they lived solitary lives, not knowing of their lineage.

The werelions have heightened senses, with inhuman strength, but their speed is not that great, and u

General knowledge of Asian Werecats

Werecat

In folklore and fantasy fiction, Werecats are shapeshifters who are similar to werewolves, except that they turn into some species of feline instead of a wolf. The species involved can be a domestic cat, a tiger, a lion, a leopard, a lynx, or any other type, including some that are purely fantastical felines. Typically, an individual werecat can only transform to one unique feline, not to a number of different species. The word "werecat" was not coined until the late 19th century, so it was not directly used in legends from earlier eras, only by later folklorists' commentary.

Asian werecats usually become tigers. In India, the weretiger is often a dangerous sorcerer, portrayed as a menace to livestock who might at any time turn to man-eating. Chinese legends often describe weretigers as the victims of either heredity or a vindictive ghost. Ancient teachings held that every race except the Han Chinese were really animals in disguise, so there was nothing extraordinary about some of these false humans reverting to their true natures. Alternately, the ghosts of people who had been killed by tigers would become malevolent supernatural beings, devoting all their energy to making sure that tigers killed more humans. Some of these ghosts were responsible for transforming ordinary humans into man-eating weretigers.

Malay Method to transform yourself into a Weretiger

Disclaimer

Dear Readers, this posting is for general knowledge only !

Readers are strongly advised not to even try it out.

Team Asiaparanormal will not hold any liability and responsibilities of any mishaps or accidents for those who dismissed our advise.

=======================================================

Ritual to infuse the power of prayer into your body:

First, prepare item as below:

1. Some leaves of kafir lime that have been exposed to morning sun

2. Coarse salt

3. Weeds 3 pieces

Crash all the ingredients to fine pieces into a half glass of plain water.

Clean yourself and bring the mixture outside of your house. Find a quiet place so that you will not be disturbed.

Put the glass directly onto the floor a few feet in front of you, and then take posture as if a tiger. Craw until your belly is directly over the glass. When you have done so, recite the above prayer slowly for 444x. After that, blow four breaths towards the water.

Now you can sit cross-legged on the floor and use your right hand to squeeze the mixture in the glass until the aroma is released. After that, wipe the liquid all over your body, pay attention to your face. This is because the heart of hypnotizing power is hidden in the face. But remember, you must control yourself so as not to roar like a tiger … or you will be part of the weretiger family J.

When you have completely rub the water all over your body, then my friend, you will feel your body hair stands up straight as if touched by small static electric charge. Let it be as your body is in the process of absorbing the nutrients and power of a tiger, you are allowed to return home once you feel calmer.

If you heard one roar, then reply with “waalaikummussallam”. If you heard a second roar, then do not respond as this is the challenge of other weretigers.

You can clean yourself once you are safely inside your house.

It is advisable to perform this ritual once a month if you want to further into the world of weretigers.

To activate the power:

1. Recite the prayer above 4x then release your breath to your right index finger.

2. Rub your index figure on the part between your nose and lips:

a. For paralyzing power: Rub your finger from top down.

b. For business, interview etc: Rub your finger from down up.

3. To be invisible from your enemy:

a. Get a piece of weed and place it horizontal below your nose, recite the prayer 4x and break the weed. Throw one half to your right, and the other to your left. But you are forbid to touch the body of your enemy, if you do so, he will be able to see you.

4. You must recite the prayer 4x before you sleep every night to maintain its power. It is said that once you have mastered this spell, you can even tame a wild tiger.

Malay Weretiger General Knowledge

Harimau Jadian or Weretiger is also known as Hantu Belian. A weretiger is said to be originated from a person who has mastered the art of weretiger or it can be inherited from father to son. This type of spell enables a person to possess the ability to transform oneself into a tiger while he/she is alive or after he/she is dead. The original purpose of learning this art was for self protection. Just think of the fact that about a century ago, majority of the South East Asia areas are covered by forests. The most powerful creatures roaming about were tigers. Hmm… I hear you, but there are no lions around then.

Local folks believe that the weretigers have independent government with king, ministers, soldiers etc. It is said that the weretigers hung human hairs in front of their houses as a signature mark.

Many people believe that the weretigers are originated from Kerinchi in Sumatra. Folks over there possess the ability to turn themselves into real tigers. According to ancient stories, in order for a person to turn into a tiger, he/she must possess a piece of sarung with black and yellow stripes as if that of a tiger.

Truth About Feng Shui and Religion

Is feng shui a religion? You might think so depending on what kind of feng shui book you are reading. Feng shui comes from China where the most popular religious practice is Buddhism.

Feng shui is not a Buddhist practice. Some Buddhists practice feng shui and some don‘t. When feng shui was introduced to America, it was altered from its classical form to what is known as Western or New Age feng shui.

They made it easy and fun so we would try it. American pop culture loves fun, easy things. Happy Buddhas, fortune kitties, lucky gods, lucky frogs, love symbols, wealth corners, and lucky bamboo plants are fun.

Today, businesses are even marketing products as having “good feng shui”. My grocery store sells bamboo plants with signs on them that read “lucky bamboo“.

Feng Shui is not a Religion

Ahhhh, here it is a beautiful Sunday and I’ve already received two calls about my services and the question comes up, ”Is Feng Shui some kind of a religion?”
Many of us (Feng Shui professionals) have tried to put that subject to rest many times, but it still seems to trouble some people.

Feng Shui is about harmony, tranquility, comfort and abundance. It has nothing to do with religious or mystical beliefs. Feng Shui is actually a science that offers the ability to create an energy balance in our homes and office spaces.

The science of feng shui is a way to build one’s prosperity and a sense of well-being. Feng Shui is rooted in physics, and architecture, and it’s popularity in this country has become massive as more and more people are beginning to explore the incredible benefits that this ancient practice has to offer.

Feng Shui has been around for two millennia and has been practiced by scholars, sages, scientists, physicists and you name it! Certainly not by people who were only interested in folklore or frivolity.

What is Asian Black Magic

What is black magic?
How does black magic affect you?
Is there really black ,agic?
A number of ideas and practise are group together under the Chinese term “KU”. These ideas and practices justify the use of the phrase “black Magic”.The purpose is to injure someone. In some sense, the word contrast is “white magic” whose purpose is to beneficial.
In general, “ku” is a means of acquiring wealth or secondary to revenge or for love. The method is to place poisonous snakes and insects together in a vessel until there is but one survivor, which is called “ku” . The poison secured from the “ku” is administrated to the victim, who becomes sick and dies. Generally, “ku” is regarded as a spirit, which secured the wealth of the victim for the sorcerer.

A Simplified 7th Month prayer demonstration by Oregon Chang

Disclaimer

Dear Readers, Supposingly such demonstration is not very advisable during the point of the Chinese 7th month. But Oregon Chang of Asiaparanormal makes a special exception this time.

Team Asiaparanormal and Oregon Chang, himself personally have also make their sincere apologies and explanations to the " Good Brothers" that are lurking around our human world before , during and after the process.

Dear 7th Month "Good Brothers" If you so happen to be reading this article as well, with due respect we would like to express ourselves that this is for education purposes to our readers and nothing more than that. There is no means or intentions to challenge or offend you , if any.

If there is really any, please do forgive us

thank you for your understanding and forgiveness

 ==========================================================

During the Chinese 7th Month, Altars for the Gods are being set up and this is something that can be seen in common

Prayers and offerings to the Heavenly Gods are made but there are sometimes where which there are people who make Prayers and offerings to the Gods of the Hell instead.

Photobucket
Photobucket

When doing prayers to the "Good Brothers" of the 7th month, please do bare in mind to be careful of what you are asking.

You should not demand. The most is request.
Do not make promises anyhow.

Just to name you a few examples,You can seek and request them to bless you in areas such as :
1) Career stability but not request them to remove your enemies and things like such
2) plead for harmony, peace and protection to your family
3) bless you in your business if you are a businessman
4) well being and good health of your kins

DO NOT ASK FOR :
1) Do not ask for numbers to buy lottery ( there is a serious consequences behind strings are attached)
2) Death of Others
3) Mishaps , accidents etc.... of those people you don't like
4) Misfortune of Others

The below will be some of the basic Package of what we Chinese usually burn to the "Good Brothers" of the 7th month

Photobucket

So what exactly does the package covers ?
Basically , this will what it will be covering

Crossing Road Money 过路钱

Photobucket
This is the thing , we Chinese will toss into the air. This is the money ghosts need to pay to cross over. if they never pay the crossing over money , they cannot cross.

This money is for both the 7 month good brothers as well as the attendants and guards of the underworld.
we want to make things easy for everyone and not problem and troubles for both the 7th month brothers and the underworld guards.

We call this in Chinese as GUO LU QIAN 过路钱

Photobucket

Followed Next will the most traditional Paper Money for the dead
this is the common paper money we always burn for the dead on funerals, death anniversary, etc.....

tPhotobucket
Photobucket

Followed will be the Currency of the underworld. This currency is known as the Hell Notes

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

Next it is the Chinese Ingots , bullion and coins

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

Followed will be some of the burning for the dead

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

Finally would be the Offerings for the dead

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

Now that we are done with most basic package , the next thing will be the Set up

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket Photobucket
Photobucket
Finally it is time for the actual Prayer
Photobucket
Photobucket

do not forget to toss the 过路钱 ( Guo Lu Qian)  sky high & it be blown all over the place as shown below

Photobucket

Now you can do your praying

Photobucket

& Finally time to burn ! burn as much as possible with sincerity

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

Do you believe that they are all over to receive ? did you spot many ghost orbs in the photo?
are they really indeed ghost orbs or was it something faulty with the camera? you decide

for the food wise that you have offered for them. generally to speak you can really offer them anything you like.

after you are done with the prayer, you have 2 options in fact
1) leave the food and drinks behind as it is alone and walk off
2) take back your offerings and have it for yourself.

should you choose the 2nd option, there will be something that you will need to do, and that will be to toss the Chinese Moon Oracle ( 阴阳笑杯)Yin Yang Xiao Bei

Photobucket
Only when it appears shown in the above, one is facing down and the other is facing up it means that the "good brothers" of the 7th month have already received your offerings and given you the permission to take back the so called offerings for yourself  to eat and drink.

but if  after tossing 3 times and still does not shows that ,  but instead like the below 2 pictures , it is then a clear indication that you should not take the offering back.

Photobucket
Photobucket
However, if you do not have this Chinese Moon Oracle ( 阴阳笑杯)Yin Yang Xiao Bei
There are also substitutes and that will be the normal coins we use in our daily lives.

An example of such would be the 50 cent Singapore coin

Photobucket
But However, please do kindly and dearly remember that you never ever use the Singapore $1 coin for the case of Singapore Coin.

Photobucket
The reason to it is simply because , it has been said that each and every single Singapore $1 coins are already caste with Chinese Taoism/Buddhism magic with the ability to exorcist Ghosts.

You may read up again on this topic which Asiaparanormal has posted before

[Click here to read Singapore's Coin of protection]
[Click here to read Singapore's $1 Coin can Protect you]

And according to the old legends, if the " Good Brothers" of the 7th month really had tasted your food and drinks, when you eat and drink the offerings, you will find them very tasteless. Believe or not , that is up to you.

Hope that everyone find this article useful and informative

May you all be well blessed in this Chinese 7th month
& Take Care of yourselves  dear readers

Best Regards,
Team Asiaparanormal

Chinese Hungry Ghosts Haunts USA between August and September

To the eastern culture, the calendar calendar month of the 7th moon, which is between the 2nd hebdomad of August and first hebdomad of September, is a month of hungry shades festival. This is the calendar month where the spirit of the dead or the shades are released from the world of sleep and are allowed to wander freely on earth. A Hole medal and a straw cross over your front door might just be enough in some circles to protect Hungry Ghost from invading your home, life and mind!

The Holly Blessed medal nailed to the door might just ward off a Banshee, a Vampire or a ghoul or two. But .... can ancestor ghosts still enter? Real Hungry Ghost will enter your life and demand to be fed. Precautions need to be made in months in advance. "They only want to be respected and cause you all kinds of harm for what they believe is your own good!" says Ghost Hunter Diane Chang, of San Francisco.

" Nothing but the old ways can stop these family members from coming to haunt you . And these angry hungry souls are not appeased easy. From The News: It's Ghost Season in Japan - Who You Gonna Call? - How can one stop being haunted by ghosts? In the Christianized West, holy water and crosses may help ward off ghosts, but they won't keep their Japanese counterparts, buried under Shinto or Buddhist rites, at bay. Instead, "ofuda" strips inscribed with Buddhist sutras are believed to be effective in keeping evil spirits away. Some Shinto shrines also provide "oharai," a purification ritual that removes bad omens with wooden wands and chants. -- Japan Times By Raggse J. McConnell According to long centuries old tradition, the Hungry Ghost Month is a very evil time - which began August 1 in the western calendar of every year-

On this day the locked shut the gates of the underworld open wide and fiercely, allowing real Spooks, specters and real evil angry ghosts to enter the world of mortals. At the end of the month, tradition holds the ghosts return to the underworld and the gates are slammed shut. But many ghosts do so much damage in this short time lives are ruined forever. But wait, don't you know some Hungry ghosts can move in and never leave. Oh... No! It's the most haunted month of the year! When August 1st rolls around each year be afraid be very afraid! The ghosts that can to your home have many tricks up their shrouded sleeves.

From pesky Womb ghosts to deadly anal spooks ( Also See: " Womb Ghosts --- A Womb With A Boo!" here) your life can be in serious trouble. And if your a paranormal investigator you might be at a higher risk because many ghosts know who you are and most likely where you live. None of this is a joke by any means. August has always been the month when it seems lifeless ghost gain more energy. Haunting that have laid dormant gain strength. And all paranormal mayhem breaks loose in the world of the living.

Ghost Festival in Thailand

Phi Ta Khon is a type of masked procession celebrated on the first day of a three-day Buddist merit-making holiday know in Thai as "Boon Pra Wate". The annual festival takes place in May, June or July at a small town of Dan Sai in the northeastern province of Loei.
Participants of the festival dress up like ghosts and monsters wearing huge masks made from carved coconut-tree trunks, topped with a wicker-work sticky-rice steamer. The Procession is marked by a lot of music and dancing
The precise origin of the Phi Ta Khon is unclear. However, it can be traced back to a traditional Buddhist folklore. In the Buddha's next to last life, he was the beloved Prince Vessandorn. The prince was said to go on a long trip for such a long time that his subjects forgot him and even thought that he was already dead. When he suddenly returned, his people were overjoyed. They welcomed him back with a celebration so loud that it even awoke the dead who then joined in all the fun.
From that time onward the faithful came to commemorate the event with ceremonies, celebrations and the donning of ghostly spirit masks. The reasons behind all the events is probably due to the fact that it was held to evoke the annual rains from the heavens by farmers and to bless crops.

Vietnam: Tết Trung Nguyên , The Chinese Version of Ghost Month

HUNGRY GHOSTS

In Buddhist and Taoist tradition, a human who suffers from great need in life will come back as a Hungry Ghost, a restless, angry spirit constantly but futilely seeking satiety. They are often depicted as having huge bellies and tiny mouths.

"Greed is the emotion of the hungry ghost realm. The hungry ghosts are beings with huge, hungry bellies and tiny mouths and throats. Some inhabit parched lands where there is not even a mention of water for hundreds of years. Others may find food and drink, yet if they swallow even a little through their tiny mouths, the food bursts into flames in their stomachs. Generosity unties the hard knot of greed." -Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche

During the Festival of Hungry Ghosts (Tết Trung Nguyên in Vietnamese), it is believed that the gates of Hell open and Hungry Ghosts wander the earth freely, seeking to appease their monstrous appetites and causing trouble for the living.

It’s an inauspicious time to begin new ventures or do important work. During the festival, people make offerings of food and paper money and other gifts to the ghosts, and pay tribute to their dead. The festival falls on the seventh lunar month. This year it will be August 15-30.

7th Month of the Oriental

To the Chinese People this month is the hungry ghost festival. Other races like Malay and Indian may question why do we celebrate hungry ghost festival.

It actually depends whether you really believe in that or you doesn't believe it. Well for me, it might be half.

On the first day itself, my mum keep reminding me to come back home early. The first day was actually on the Tuesday. I had a friend gathering on the Wednesday. Around 8pm, the road should be crowded with cars but on that night the road was left with a few number of cars.

Majority of them prefer to go back home early because this month is also the fasting month for the Muslim. Restaurants were crowded with people. People had their dinner there.

 * Coming back the Hungry Ghost festival topic: To some Chinese that believe the existence of ghost, they will make sure everyone in their family be home by 8pm. They will not let their family members to go out late at night.

This is the month where a lot of empty rooms available in every hotels. Chinese people will not go to vacation during the seventh month. They will not stay in hotel. The Ghost Festival is celebrated during the seventh month of the Chinese Lunar calendar. It also falls at the same time as a full moon, the new season, the fall harvest, the peak of Buddhist monastic asceticism, the rebirth of ancestors, and the assembly of the local community.

During this month, the gates of hell are opened up and ghosts are free to roam the earth where they seek food and entertainment. These ghosts are believed to be ancestors of those who have forgotten to pay tribute to them after they had died, or those who have suffered deaths and were never given a proper ritual for a send-off.

They have long needle-thin necks because they have not been fed by their family, or it is a sign of punishment so they are unable to swallow. Family members offer prayers to their deceased relatives, offer food and drink and burn joss paper. Such paper items are only valid in the underworld, which is why they burn it as an offering to the ghosts that have come from the gates of hell. The afterlife is very similar in some aspects to the material world, and the paper effigies of material goods would provide comfort to in the afterlife.

People would also burn other things such as paper houses, cars, servants and televisions to please the ghosts. Families also pay tribute to other unknown wandering ghosts so that these homeless souls do not intrude on their lives and bring misfortune and bad luck.

A large feast is held for the ghosts on the fourteenth day of the seventh month, where everyone brings samplings of food and places them on the offering table to please the ghosts and ward off bad luck. In some East Asian countries today, live performances are held and everyone is invited to attend. The first row of seats are always empty as this is where the ghosts sit.

The shows are always put on at night and at high volumes as the sound attracts and please the ghosts. Some shows include Chinese opera, dramas, and in some areas, even burlesque shows. These acts are better known as "Merry-making". For rituals, Buddhist and Taoists hold ceremonies to relieve ghosts from suffering, many of them holding ceremonies in the afternoon or at night (as it is believed that the ghosts are released from hell when the sun sets).

Altars are built for the deceased and priests and monks alike perform rituals for the benefit of ghosts. Monks and priests often throw rice or other small foods into the air in all directions to distribute them to the ghosts. During the evening, incense is burnt in front of the doors of each household. Incense stands for prosperity in Chinese culture, so families believe that there is more prosperity in burning more incense.

During the festival, some shops are closed as they wanted to leave the streets open for the ghosts. In the middle of each street stood an altar of incense with fresh fruit and sacrifices displayed on it. 14 days after the festival, to make sure all the hungry ghosts find their way back to hell, people flow water lanterns and set them outside their houses (a practice that can be found amongst the Japanese during Obon).

These lanterns are made by setting a lotus flower-shaped lantern on a paper boat. The lanterns are used to direct the ghosts back to the underworld, and when they go out, it symbolizes that they found their way back.

Chūgen (中元), also Ochūgen (お中元) , The Chinese Version of Ghost Month

Chūgen (中元), also Ochūgen (お中元), is an annual event in Japan on July 15, when people give gifts to their superiors and acquaintances.

One of the three days that form the sangen (三元?) of Daoism, it is sometimes considered a Zassetsu in the Japanese calendar.

Originally it was an annual event for giving gifts to the ancestral spirits. Obon (お盆?) or just Bon (盆?) is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of one's ancestors.

This Buddhist-Confucian custom has evolved into a family reunion holiday during which people return to ancestral family places and visit and clean their ancestors' graves, and when the spirits of ancestors are supposed to revisit the household altars.

It has been celebrated in Japan for more than 500 years and traditionally includes a dance, known as Bon-Odori.
