It was  a usual night out, I was  with my girlfriend & when she out of a sudden complained that she is not feeling well . Being the gentleman I send her home.

She was staying in Tampines and I therefore had the choice of either using the TPE (Tampines Expressway) or to cut though the Old Tampines Rd. As  it was pretty  late already, I went by  TPE.

we reached her place soon, I chatted with her parents for a while and left for home soon after. I had to decide on which route to take again. as  I was tired and hungry, therefore I decided to take the Old Tampines Rd, as it was a shorter route & it  near to Hougang where there are coffee place which i can take some snacks.

 Half way through, I was beginning to feel like something is sitting behind me. It seems that My bike was heavier by the second and no matter how hard I turned the throttle, the 200cc bike could not go faster. I was running on full tank.

I felt a spooked. I sensed something  behind me and I felt something brushing on my neck. Come to think of it, it actually felt like hair! Well, I couldn’t sustain my curiosity and quickly turned my head to see what’s (or who’s) bothering me.

I had the shock of life. I saw someone, or something. I assumed it was a lady, in white, with long hair. MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!… IT’S A PONTIANAK!!

She was sitting on my bike, the “kampong” style, i.e. Her legs were not across the seat but instead she was seating on the side, her legs together and facing my right direction. Thank god I didn’t get to see her face!

I didn’t spend too much time “admiring” her. In the split second, I looked back in front and focused on the road. Kept praying to myself… Please GOD help me!!

Soon I reached the main road, thank God. I sped all the way home. One piece of advise for all bikers out there, NEVER take the Old Tampines Rd at night. Never!

Tampines Pontianak

The Pontianak ghost

Along the way, I would learn all the different varieties of ghosts that we have, especially the most prominent one, the pontianak, which is created when a woman dies in childbirth and comes back to haunt the living. Due to the circumstances of her creation, her main preys are pregnant women and newborn children so both ‘target groups’ are forbidden to leave their homes after dark.

I had a recent online chat with my cousin from back home and whilst asking about her now one year old daughter, the subject of ghosts came up. She was left alone that week as her teacher husband was away on camp with his students and she was staying over at her parents’ until he came back.

I tried to convince her to just stay at home instead of going through the trouble of packing 101 things for herself and her eight month old daughter but she confessed to being afraid to be alone, not for fear of criminals or the like, but for fear of ghosts and goblins dropping in on the both of them without a (supposedly) strong male figure around.

I should have been more empathetic to her since I had just received an email with a picture of what looked like a pontianak perching on a tree somewhere in her neighbouring housing estate.

Malay Method to transform yourself into a Weretiger

1. Some leaves of kafir lime that have been exposed to morning sun

2. Coarse salt

3. Weeds 3 pieces



Crash all the ingredients to fine pieces into a half glass of plain water.



Clean yourself and bring the mixture outside of your house. Find a quiet place so that you will not be disturbed.



Put the glass directly onto the floor a few feet in front of you, and then take posture as if a tiger. Craw until your belly is directly over the glass. When you have done so, recite the above prayer slowly for 444x. After that, blow four breaths towards the water.



Now you can sit cross-legged on the floor and use your right hand to squeeze the mixture in the glass until the aroma is released. After that, wipe the liquid all over your body, pay attention to your face. This is because the heart of hypnotizing power is hidden in the face. But remember, you must control yourself so as not to roar like a tiger … or you will be part of the weretiger family J.





When you have completely rub the water all over your body, then my friend, you will feel your body hair stands up straight as if touched by small static electric charge. During that time, worshipping the moon on the 15th night of the eighth month had spread to high officials and rich families. The practice entailed placing a large table in the middle of the yard under the moon, and they put offerings such as fruits and snacks on the table. However, not until the early Tang Dynasty was the day officially celebrated as a traditional festival. It then became an established festival during the Song Dynasty, and has become as popular as the Spring Festival since the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Appreciating the moon has been a custom since the Tang Dynasty (618–907). Not only the rich merchants and officials, but also the common citizens, liked appreciating the moon together at that time. The rich merchants and officials held big parties in their big courts. They drank and appreciated the bright moon. Music and dances were also indispensable. The common citizens just prayed to the moon for a good harvest. The tradition of eating mooncakes during the festival bgan in Yuan Dynasty. At the end of Yuan Dynasty (1271–1368, a dynasty ruled by the Mongols), the Han people’s army wanted to overthrow the rule of the Mongols, so they planed an uprising, but they had no way to inform every Han who wanted to join them of the time of the uprising without being discovered by the Mongols. One day, the military counselor of the Han people’s army, Liu Bowen, thought out a stratagem related to mooncakes. Liu Bowen asked his soldiers to spread the rumor that there would be a serious disease in winter and eating mooncakes was the only way to cure the disease, then he asked soldiers to write "uprising, at the night of Mid-Autumn Festival" on papers and put them into mooncakes then sell them to common Han people. Legend of Mid Autumn Festival

On the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese calendar every year, Mid-Autumn Festival (Zhong Qiu Jie) or what some called as Moon cake Festival or Lantern festival is being celebrated. On this very day, it will always be of a full moon without fail! The Moon on this very night will be always very big, bright and round. If you were looking at the moon, you will see some images.

What most people would see would be either a Maiden or a Rabbit! Very few people will see a toad! You should not see any other images than these 3 images. There is an explanation in fact to why it can only be one of those 3 images.

Chinese Cupid God, Yue Lao

Yue Lao

The Chinese version of the cupid would be Yue Lao. Cupid to the western is a young chap who is some sort of angel that shoots love arrows. All he needs to do is to shoot his first arrow at one person followed by the second arrow at another person. The person whom had been shot by his arrow would be connected together and fall in love with each other. Yue Lao on the other hand is an old man living in the moon. Some of points in Common from the various groups and sects of the fengshui masters about Bedok reservoir was the shape of the reservoir, as that there is a human trapped in the middle trying very hard to get out. This human is faced with much threats from the surroundings and is in fear & anxiety.

as a result of such people who die there are not in some proper state of mind. They are confused, sad, disappointed etc..............

or could it just be of some mere coincidence ?

Deaths occurs everywhere, all the time. why didn't other places seem to be a hot topic for such ?  why only Bedok reservoir ? it is just a mere coincidence.

But again, the Chinese had an old saying that this word , coincidence happen only 3 times anything that is more than 3 times cannot be termed as coincidence anymore.

Decomposed Body @ Bedok Reservoir

Deaths seems to be taking place one after another. Bedok Reservoir, a place where people just seem to always die that , this topic did not subside but resurface again, recently with another recent death.

SINGAPORE - A decomposed body was found at the Bedok Reservoir this morning.

A caller to the MediaCorp hotline said he discovered the body at about 7am when he was doing his morning exercise.

Police received a call at 6.52am requesting for assistance at Bedok Reservoir. They found a man floating in the reservoir when they arrived on the scene.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene at around 7.25am.

The man is believed to be Chinese and in his 30s.

The death is the eighth reported case in the reservoir since June 2011, reported Channel NewsAsia. The most recent case was reported in January this year.

"When you have a low tide, there's less water, so the pressure on the seafloor is smaller. That pressure is clamping the fault together, so when it's not there, it makes it easier for the fault to slip." According to Wilcock, earthquake activity in subduction zones at low tides is 10 percent higher than at other times of the day, but he hasn't observed any correlations between earthquake activity and especially low tides at new and full moons. Vidale has observed only a very small correlation. What about during a lunar perigee?

Prayers and offerings to the Heavenly Gods are made but there are sometimes where which there are people who make Prayers and offerings to the Gods of the Hell instead.




When doing prayers to the "Good Brothers" of the 7th month, please do bare in mind to be careful of what you are asking.

You should not demand. The most is request.
Do not make promises anyhow.

Just to name you a few examples,You can seek and request them to bless you in areas such as :
1) Career stability but not request them to remove your enemies and things like such
2) plead for harmony, peace and protection to your family
3) bless you in your business if you are a businessman
4) well being and good health of your kins

DO NOT ASK FOR :
1) Do not ask for numbers to buy lottery ( there is a serious consequences behind strings are attached)
2) Death of Others
3) Mishaps , accidents etc.... of those people you don't like
4) Misfortune of Others

The below will be some of the basic Package of what we Chinese usually burn to the "Good Brothers" of the 7th month



So what exactly does the package covers ?
Basically , this will what it will be covering

Crossing Road Money 过路钱


This is the thing , we Chinese will toss into the air. This is the money ghosts need to pay to cross over. if they never pay the crossing over money , they cannot cross.

This money is for both the 7 month good brothers as well as the attendants and guards of the underworld.
we want to make things easy for everyone and not problem and troubles for both the 7th month brothers and the underworld guards.

We call this in Chinese as GUO LU QIAN 过路钱



Followed Next will the most traditional Paper Money for the dead
this is the common paper money we always burn for the dead on funerals, death anniversary, etc.....

Followed will be the Currency of the underworld. This currency is known as the Hell Notes





Next it is the Chinese Ingots , bullion and coins







Followed will be some of the burning for the dead





Finally would be the Offerings for the dead





Now that we are done with most basic package , the next thing will be the Set up





Finally it is time for the actual Prayer



do not forget to toss the 过路钱 ( Guo Lu Qian)  sky high & it be blown all over the place as shown below



Now you can do your praying



& Finally time to burn ! burn as much as possible with sincerity





Do you believe that they are all over to receive ? did you spot many ghost orbs in the photo?
are they really indeed ghost orbs or was it something faulty with the camera? you decide

for the food wise that you have offered for them. generally to speak you can really offer them anything you like.

after you are done with the prayer, you have 2 options in fact
1) leave the food and drinks behind as it is alone and walk off
2) take back your offerings and have it for yourself.

should you choose the 2nd option, there will be something that you will need to do, and that will be to toss the Chinese Moon Oracle （ 阴阳笑杯）Yin Yang Xiao Bei


Only when it appears shown in the above, one is facing down and the other is facing up it means that the "good brothers" of the 7th month have already received your offerings and given you the permission to take back the so called offerings for yourself  to eat and drink.

but if  after tossing 3 times and still does not shows that ,  but instead like the below 2 pictures , it is then a clear indication that you should not take the offering back.



However, if you do not have this Chinese Moon Oracle （ 阴阳笑杯）Yin Yang Xiao Bei
There are also substitutes and that will be the normal coins we use in our daily lives.

Chinese Ghost Month in Brief

The Ghost Festival, also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival and holiday celebrated by Chinese in many countries. In the Chinese calendar (a lunisolar calendar), the Ghost Festival is on the 15th night of the seventh lunar month (14th in southern China).

In Chinese tradition, the fifteenth day of the seventh month in the lunar calendar is called Ghost Day and the seventh month in general is regarded as the Ghost Month (鬼月), in which ghosts and spirits, including those of the deceased ancestors, come out from the lower realm. Distinct from both the Qingming Festival (in Spring) and Chung Yeung Festival (in Autumn) in which living descendants pay homage to their deceased ancestors, on Ghost Day, the deceased are believed to visit the living.

On the fifteenth day the realms of Heaven and Hell and the realm of the living are open and both Taoists and Buddhists would perform rituals to transmute and absolve the sufferings of the deceased. Intrinsic to the Ghost Month is ancestor worship, where traditionally the filial piety of descendants extends to their ancestors even after their deaths.

Activities during the month would include preparing ritualistic food offerings, burning incense, and burning joss paper, a papier-mâché form of material items such as clothes, gold and other fine goods for the visiting spirits of the ancestors. Elaborate meals (often vegetarian meals) would be served with empty seats for each of the deceased in the family treating the deceased as if they are still living.

Ancestor worship is what distinguishes Qingming Festival from Ghost Festival because the latter includes paying respects to all deceased, including the same and younger generations, while the former only includes older generations. Other festivities may include, buying and releasing miniature paper boats and lanterns on water, which signifies giving directions to the lost ghosts and spirits of the ancestors and other deities.
