The Dooms Day Dream of ShiJie

How Dooms Day will strike in my dream of 21st Dec 2012 night time
Since the 20th of December, my friends and I were on the group chat (whatsapp) , chatting and joking about December 21st, the so called Dooms day as per the Mayan calendar. we talk , chat , joke, poke fun, talk rubbish etc... on this topic all the way till december 21st evening time itself.

then during the night of december 21st itself when I was sleeping, a dream came upon me on how will dooms day strike upon us.

Just like what Nostradamus, mention about a calm morning in the prediction of PSY's Gangnam Style, similarly Dooms day in my dream also occur on a very usual calm morning just like any other normal days.

But again just when you thought that it is just any other normal usual days , you are wrong.
indeed it appear like any other usual normal day but suddenly humans began to gather around down the streets in crowds and as a matter of time it broke up into a gang fight and riots downs the streets and roads all over the place.

this lead into us humans killing one another

Sylvester Stallone spotted from year 1511 painting of Vatican City

A Harvard student was bewildered on a visit to Vatican City, not because of the beauty or the history, but because a 500-year-old painting by Raphael which shows a man who is an exact doppelganger of Sylvester Stallone.

As soon as we saw the painting, we knew it was him. My whole family thought it was hilarious. It could actually be a portrait of Stallone, 20-year-old Anthony Zonfrell of Mass. told The Sun.

Displayed in one of the Raphael Rooms at the Vatican, the fresco painting called The Cardinal and Theological Virtues was created in 1511 by Raphael, famous for being the third in the trinity of great artists which include Michaelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. Raphael was commissioned to paint four rooms in the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City, which later became known as the Stanze di Raffaello, which translates to the Raphael Rooms.

The painting on one wall in the Stanze della Segnatura room depicts Pope Gregory IX approving the Vatical Decretals to represent a balance between law and religion. According to The Daily Mail, art historians believe that Raphael sketched the outline while Lorenzo Lotto actually painted the fresco, namely the Stallone part.

Weird Coincidences of Vampire Crabs

Contributed by :  Chan ShiJie

  Weird Coincidences

Why are Vampire Crabs called as Vampires ? Please be ensured of one thing, although they are called as vampires, they do not suck blood. Since that is the case, why are they called as vampire then ?

One possiblily could be due to their appearance.
They are one of the most colorific crabs to become available, regularly exhibiting orange, purple, red, yellow and black, and thanks to their red eyes, which become evident at sub-adulthood.

But again, it can also be the coincidence of vampires in our human culture.
First of all, each and every single vampire crabs have a very unique tatoo born with them on their shell, all at the exact same spot & angle of the exact same shape

this shape itself is the symbol for vampires

Next, they are purple in colour. Purple is itself a royal colour in ancient europe. It is the color that only the royals and nobels can wear and none others are allowed to wear.

Typically in european cultures of Count Dracula and other vampire stories, they are usually associated with the royals and nobels. The traditional uniform of Count Dracula does has purple colour as well. It is black on the outside and purple in the inside.

Thirdly , Vampire crabs are night creatures. They are only active at night. They are not active during the day. The way on how vampire crabs stalk and sneak to attack on their preys will only remind you of the way on how vampires prey on their victims in the movies.

Finally, direct sunlight is hurtful towards them

This 4 points itself is a weird coincidences by itself. How can it be so much of a coincidences ?
what do you think ?

Bad Fengshui or Coincidence For deaths in Bedok ? ( Compilations of Bedok related articles)

Has it been of a mere recently Coincidence or is it really some serious and terrible bad Fengshui ( Geomancy) reason that is resulting in much of the recent news of Singapore concerning Bedok ?

Even with exorcism with recent deaths on the rise did not even seem to help much.

In the recent years, deaths had repeated itself again and again for the case of Bedok Reservoir. The numbers of dead just seem to be increasing.

after much research by much masters and various communities of different groups, the most likely possible reason seem to be FENG SHUI ( Geomancy)

Some of points in Common from the various groups and sects of the fengshui masters about Bedok reservoir was the shape of the reservoir, as that there is a human trapped in the middle trying very hard to get out. This human is faced with much threats from the surroundings and is in fear & anxiety.

as a result of such people who die there are not in some proper state of mind. They are confused, sad, disappointed etc..............

or could it just be of some mere coincidence ?

Deaths occurs everywhere, all the time. why didn't other places seem to be a hot topic for such ?  why only Bedok reservoir ? it is just a mere coincidence.

But again, the Chinese had an old saying that this word , coincidence happen only 3 times anything that is more than 3 times cannot be termed as coincidence anymore.

furthermore, law enforcers cannot afford to believe in this words called as coincidence. Same goes for many other occupations especially when there want to solves mysteries. It will be impossible to solve any mysteries and resolve any cases if these group of people believe in this word call as coincidence.

But again saying this, we still cannot deny that coincidence do exist in this world as well with no other explanations.

So how much of it is it really of a mere coincidence or is there more than to meet the eye with Feng Shui as the reason , just perhaps ?

The below would be a compilations of articles we had related to Bedok so far.

Human spit build-up could cause bridge collapse

The Howrah Bridge in the Indian city of Kolkata is at risk of collapsing because the steel at its base is being corroded by human saliva.

Pedestrians who have been chewing betel leaf, areca nut and slaked lime have been spitting on the bridge's steel hangers, causing them to weaken.

The red stains left by the paan mixture - a mild stimulant chewed throughout India - are caked around the metal casings of the bridge.

Authorities say the paan-laced spit has reduced the thickness of the bridge's hangers from six millimetres to three millimetres.

In an attempt to save the bridge, port engineers have come up with the idea of covering the steel with fibreglass.

Several years ago authorities were forced to begin regular clean up of bird droppings which were also corroding the bridge.

It has also been damaged before from a number of car and boat accidents.

The cantilever suspension bridge opened in 1943 and spans more than 450 metres across the Hooghly River.

It is thought to be the busiest of its kind in the world, with more than 100,000 vehicles crossing a day and more than 150,000 pedestrians pounding its walkways daily.

What is wrong with Bedok Reservoir?

by Joan Seth

Bedok Reservoir is a is a reservoir located in the eastern part of Singapore. It was completed in 1986. Since 2004, the local authorities have increasingly allowed activities to take place in Bedok Reservoir. These include watersports like wakeboarding, sailing and canoeing. Thus, in recent years, the number of members of the public visiting the reservoir has increased.

In 2011, within a span of 5 months since June, a series of incidents occurred at the reservoir. A total of 5 bodies have been pulled out from the water, leading people to believe that the reservoir is cursed. Is this really the case though? We take a look at the evidence and speculate on the possible explanations for this spate of incidents.

Bedok Reservoir Cursed?

Body found in Bedok Reservoir again, 5th since June

1) Curses

This seems a most likely explanation and the easiest to fall upon though. A curse is a wish expressed upon some other entity – a person, an object or a place. Harm or hurt will be inflicted by supernatural powers.

But is the reservoir cursed? Bedok town was developed in 1973, but evidence shows that a “Bedok River” has existed in Singapore since 1604. In the past, it used to be a hilly area before urban development and was populated mainly by fishermen.

Would anyone place a curse on the reservoir? Remember, it was not completed till 1986. Exactly 25 years later, the spate of incidents occurred. Perhaps someone was unhappy with the construction of the reservoir and placed a curse upon it? Then why would the curse start manifesting itself only after 25 years?

2) Hauntings

Bedok was one of the first few “new towns” developed by the HDB in the 1970s. Past history did not indicate any worthy incidents of note, but way back in 1942, during World War II, the Bedok Hill Massacre occurred.

On the 28th of February 1942, 90 men from the Federrated Malay States Volunteer Force (FMSVF), Straits Settlement Volunteer Force (SSVF) and the Malay Regiment were executed by the Japanese.

Was this the catalyst for the recent spate of accidents and suicides? Were the ghosts of the soldiers somehow enacting their revenge? But why only now? Furthermore they were killed on a hill, which was already been leveled during the town development days in the 1970s. What has that got to do with the reservoir?

3) Earth Magnetic Field

Ley lines are alleged alignments of a number of places of geographical and historical interest, such as ancient monuments and megaliths, natural ridge-tops and water-fords. Experts claim that such lines are the energy pathways of the Earth, and some attribute them to UFO sightings.

But do they exist in Singapore? Perhaps the reservoir lies upon a ley line of negative energy, influencing people into making negative decisions.

Furthermore, psychiatrists too have noticed a correlation between geomagnetic activity and suicide rates.

Geomagnetic storms - periods of high geomagnetic activity caused by large solar flares - have also been linked to clinical depression.

In 1994, a study was published suggesting a 36.2% increase in the number of men admitted into hospital for depression in the second week after geomagnetic storms (British Journal of Psychiatry vol 164, p 403).

What may be the cause of the link, if there is one, remains unknown. Could this be a reason? Do remember that Singapore does not have high geological activity though.

Does the Earth's magnetic field cause suicides?

4) Fengshui

If you take a look at the picture above, it certainly resembles a side view of a male human head. This is due to the resemblance of a "Dragon Throat" or "Adam Apple" near the throat of the head. The Dragon Throat is the vital essence of the accumulating negative "qi".

According to what is indicated in our picture, there is something sharp pointing at the eyes. If someone uses a sharp physical object to point at your eyes, you will be blinded. If someone is blinded, there is a high chance that the person will get into accident.

For example, the person might be blinded and fall into the reservoir. This could explain the recent accidents at the reservoir. The victims might have been "blinded" and "fell" into the reservoir.

- Quoted from Master Orthodox Occultist Oregon Chang

5) Mere coincidences

Finally, perhaps these 5 incidents does have a simple and plausible explanation after all. We think that the following 2 factors influenced the turn of events greatly.

1) Accessibility - The reservoir has been opened to public use for watersports for many years. Also, a lot of people go there for fishing as well. Nearby the reservoir is Bedok Reservoir Park. The whole area is highly accessible to the public with transportation readily available.

2) Previously a alarming rate of suicide attempts were made on MRT tracks, whereby the individual will jump onto the tracks just as the trains were pulling in. However, since the authorities had made renovations to the train stations by building barrier gates and doors, the suicide rates has dropped dramatically.

Put two and two together, we have the most probable answer. As MRT stations are getting less accessible for suicide attempts, coupled with the ease of accessibility of Bedok Reservoir road. People are choosing the reservoir as their choice of suicide attempts.

Unfortunately, this is all just statistics. Compare it to a hospital where almost everyday people die of natural causes or sickness. If only 5 people die in a hospital within 5 months, no one will bat an eyelid. But if 5 people die everyday for 5 months, people will start wondering if there is something wrong with the hospital.

Compare to a busy road with heavy traffic and a lot of pedestrians. Within 5 months, if 5 accidents occur there, some people might think that it is a bit statically little in number. But within 5 months, 5 accidents occur at a reservoir, people start thinking there is something wrong.

Ultimately, this is just a statistical anomaly. Its all about the perception of human beings of statistics. People are just as about likely to die in a reservoir.

International suicide rates are 1 in 121, whereas dying from car accident is 1 in 260. Does this mean a person is more likely to die from suicide than from accidents?

DISCLAIMER: Asia Paranormal does not condone suicidal behavior and actions. We wish to emphasize the fact that life is precious and please, do not recklessly endanger it and cause misery to the people and loved ones around you. If need be, please seek help or counselling. There is always a solution.

2 Russian Babies Switch at Birth and Truth Discovered 12 Years Later ( 2 Россия коммутатор младенцев при рождении и Истина обнаружена 12 лет спустя )

Photobucket

In a Siberian town, a Christian baby and a Muslim baby were swapped at birth. Twelve years later, the families discovered the truth.

Both mothers saw the babies, and should have remembered them.

All Yulia Beliayeva remembers of the night she gave birth, Dec. 17, 1998, was the cursing of the doctors. “The doctors and nurses scolded us for our cries; they gave us humiliating names,” she says.

Who was to blame for the dramatic mix-up that took place at the Kopeisk birth clinic that night, troubling even by the standards of Russian medicine? Ira was born at 2:20 a.m., 15 minutes before Anya. Their mothers were still teenagers; Beliayeva was 18 at the time she gave birth to Anya, and Ira’s biological mother was 16 years old. “I am not excluding the possibility that they swapped our babies on purpose,” Beliayeva says, out of irritation with their cries. Today, the heartbroken parents say they would like the doctors to take full responsibility and go to jail.

But their story of swapped babies in Siberia was discovered two years too late for the criminal law to take force. Both mothers want to keep the child they raised, as one family is Muslim, the other Christian. So all the parents count on now is a possible damage award of $330,000. The court hearing is expected next week.

For 12 years, Beliayeva did not have a shadow of a doubt that her eldest, deeply beloved daughter, Ira, was her real child. The blonde, blue-eyed mother thought that her dark-eyed girl with coal-black hair inherited those features from her grandmother. Ira had her mother’s powerful voice and outgoing character. Ira yelled commands at the boys in the courtyard. This made the young mother feel proud: “She has my leader’s spirit,” Beliayeva says

Thailand's Flood Predicted by a Monk?

Thais can be a superstitious bunch of people. Whether it’s amulets or tattoos, many just do not want to take any chances. When it comes to political fortune telling, much attention is paid to the men, who have gained such wisdom to give a prophecy about how the balance of power will play out in the future. Some of them are (intentionally) cryptic, some are more concrete (but yet wrong) – nevertheless, such things regularly make the headlines in Thailand, as seen recently when former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva was surveying the flooding situation in Sing Buri province:

(via Khao Sod Online)

(…) Abhisit paid respect to Phra Dharma Singha Bhurajarn (also known as Luang Pho Jaran) at Wat Amphawan (…) and to discuss the flood situation.

During the the discussion, Luang Pho Jaran asked if Abhisit or members of the press (…) have read the prophecies by Luang Pho Ruesi Ling Dam. (…) “If Thailand has a female prime minister, the country will take damage and have problems.” Thus, [Luang Pho Jaran told] Mr. Abhisit should take good care of himself, since he will surely be prime minister a second time. (…)

““หลวงปู่จรัญ” ยกคำทำนายฤาษีลิงดำทัก “มาร์ค” นั่งนายกฯรอบ2 เหตุผู้นำหญิงทำบ้านเมืองเสียหาย“, Matichon, September 16, 2011, translation by me

Now that sounds very concrete and something that Abhisit and like-minded people probably love to hear at the moment. But if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. When you look at another Thai newspaper, things kind of start to appear not the same way as they did at the beginning. Thai Rath ran the headline “Double premiership awaits, Mark rejoices, Ruesi Ling Dam predicts” and wrote in their subheader:

หลวงพ่อจรัญ ยกคำทำนายเกจิดังหลวงพ่อฤษีลิงดำ ทัก”มาร์ค”จะได้รีเทิร์นนายกรัฐมนตรีรอบสอง แนะรักษาเนื้อรักษาตัวให้ดี เพื่อจะได้กลับมาดูแลทุกข์สุขของประชาชน…

Luang Pho Jaran cites prophecy by Luang Pho Ruesi Ling Dam that “Mark” [Abhisit's nickname] will return as prime minister for a second time, advises him to take good care of himself in order to take care of the people again…

“ได้เบิ้ลนายกฯ มาร์คปลื้ม ฤษีลิงดำทำนาย“, Thai Rath, September 16, 2011

Proof Nic Cage is a vampire

Picture is (C) copyright to Yahoo News

An unknown antiques seller has posted an aged Civil War dated photo on online retail site, eBay, claiming that he has proof that A-list actor Nicolas Cage is a vampire, according to a report on Cinema Blend's website.

The photo, which dates from 1870 and carries a US $1 million asking price, bears an uncanny resemblance to the 47-year old "Leaving Las Vegas" star.

"Personally, I believe it's him and that he is some sort of walking undead/vampire, et cetera, who quickens/reinvents himself once every 75 years or so. 150 years from now, he might be a politician, the leader of a cult, or a talk show host," states the description of the photo.

"This is not a trick photo, it's an original photograph of a man who lived in Bristol, Tennessee sometime around the Civil War. Photographer is Professor G.B. Smith. A contact of mine forwarded this interesting article about the photographer, Smith. Turns out he was a confederate Civil War prisoner of war photographer. Guaranteed to be an original 1860s-70s photograph and not a modern reproduction, copy or photo manipulation."

The photo was apparently found in the back of an album that contained many death portraits from the Civil War era, but only the Nicolas Cage look-alike was not identified by name, stated the seller.

No stranger to vampires, Cage starred in the 80s cult movie "Vampire's Kiss", where he played a man who believed that we was turning into a vampire.

Black Rain in Japan!

While many radioactive cattle have been discovered large distances from Fukushima, what is more important is where their feed is coming from.

“It’s not only about the radioactive cattle in Fukushima Prefecture; its also about the radioactive straw the cattle eat that was grown elsewhere”.

Straw found 45 miles from Fukushima is highly contaminated with radioactive cesium, which is an indication that radiation has contaminated large portions of Northern Japan. More than half a million disintegrations per second in a kilogram of straw are comparable to Chernobyl levels.

Incredible story of how man survives being hit by lightning TWICE in remarkable CCTV footage

The chances of being struck by lightning once are high enough.

But one unfortunate man appears to have been electrocuted twice within the space of a minute by two almighty bolts of lightning.

The hapless pedestrian had been jogging along a quiet city street when CCTV captured the astonishing moment on April 11.

Shortly before the apparent freak accident a walker carrying an umbrella and a jogger had passed through the street unscathed.

They are followed later by a young couple walking arm-in-arm as they shelter from what could be light drizzle.

But the unlucky man then jogs in from the bottom of the screen wearing dark trousers and a heavy coat.

Seconds later a frightening bolt of electricity rips down from the heavens and zaps the man in his tracks.

He stumbles for a few feet before collapsing painfully face down onto the hard ground.

Giant hole opens up behind house

Picture is (C) copyright to quirky news

A Chinese family had to leave their home after a giant sinkhole suddenly opened up in their backyard overnight.

The hole is nearly 70ft wide and nobody has so far even been able to measure how deep it is.

Zhang Fengrong, 58, of Leshan, Sichuan province, said he suddenly heard a roaring sound at 2am.

He stepped outside and was amazed to see the giant hole opening up, and getting closer and closer to his house.

At first, it was only 10ft wide, but witjhin 24 hours it had reached it's current size - and the family say they will lose their home if it gets any bigger.

Zhang said he had tried to measure the depth of the pit by letting down first a 130ft rope, then a 200ft rope, but they still hadn't reached the bottom.

"We can hear the sound of water when we stand on the edge of the hole, but when we throw down stones we don't hear them land or splash," he added.

The family are temporarily living in two rooms offered by the village office, and neighbours have helped them move most of their belongings from the house.

Meet 'Lucky' Yamaguchi, the only man to have survived both Hiroshima AND Nagasaki atomic bomb blasts

A man of 93 has become the first person certified as a survivor of both the U.S. atomic bombs dropped on Japan at the end of the Second World War.

Tsutomu Yamaguchi appears to be the only person in history to have survived not one, but two atomic bomb blasts.

Picture is (C) copyright to Daily Mail

But does this make him the luckiest man in the world - or the unluckiest...?
Yamaguchi had already been a certified 'hibakusha,' or radiation survivor, of the August 9, 1945, atomic bombing in Nagasaki.

But he has now been confirmed as surviving the attack on Hiroshima three days earlier as well, city officials said.

Yamaguchi was in Hiroshima on a business trip on August 6, 1945, when a U.S. B-29 dropped an atomic bomb on the city.

He suffered serious burns to his upper body and spent the night in the city.
Traumatised, he then sought the refuge of his hometown - Nagasaki.

With devastating timing, he arrived just in time for the second attack, city officials said.

Ever Dream of This Man?

In January 2006 in New York, the patient of a well-known psychiatrist draws the face of a man that has been repeatedly appearing in her dreams. In more than one occasion that man has given her advice on her private life. The woman swears she has never met the man in her life.

That portrait lies forgotten on the psychiatrist’s desk for a few days until one day another patient recognizes that face and says that the man has often visited him in his dreams. He also claims he has never seen that man in his waking life.

The psychiatrist decides to send the portrait to some of his colleagues that have patients with recurrent dreams. Within a few months, four patients recognize the man as a frequent presence in their own dreams. All the patients refer to him as THIS MAN.

From January 2006 until today, at least 2000 people have claimed they have seen this man in their dreams, in many cities all over the world: Los Angeles, Berlin, Sao Paulo, Tehran, Beijing, Rome, Barcelona, Stockholm, Paris, New Dehli, Moscow etc.

Pareidolia in nature

By Joan Seth

Pareidolia is defined a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant. Usual examples include seeing faces, images, animals, deities in different parts of the natural world like the sky, rocks, trees or water.

One of the most famous examples is the Face On Mars. A particular position where the picture was taken, together with lighting and shadow, combined to produce a face-like image in a mesa on Mars.

It has long been the subject of various Extraterrestrial conspiracy theories, but ultimately, it has been proven to be just a trick of light. But without further ado, here are some more examples in our natural world.

A face in a banana tree

A skull face in spider web

A elephant-like animal in stone

A red heart in a capsicum

A crocodile in rock

A bird-like face in stone

A face in a tree

A face in a tree

A tortoise in rock

A face in the sky

A face in a cliff

A face in rock

A ghostly figure in wood

10 real amazing coincidences

By Joan Seth

A coincidence occurs when something uncanny, accidental and unexpected happens. It can be further defined as when two or more events that are unrelated and are unlikely to occur together by chance, manage to happen together in a meaningful manner. Here, we look at some of the most amazing coincidences ever.

1. A bullet finds its intended target years later

Henry Ziegland broke off a relationship with his girlfriend who, out of distress, committed suicide in 1883. The girl's brother was so enraged that he hunted down Ziegland and shot him, then took his own life. But the bullet only grazed his face and then lodged in a tree.

Some years later, Ziegland decided to cut down the large tree, which still had the bullet in it. He decided to blow it up with a few sticks of dynamite. The explosion propelled the bullet into Ziegland's head, killing him.

2. The unknown monk

Joseph Aigner was a painter living in Austria in the 19th century. He was depressed and tried to hang himself when he was 18, but was interrupted by a mysterious Capuchin monk. At age 22, he was interrupted by the same monk again. 8 years later, he was sentenced to death for his political activities, but was saved by the monk again.

Finally at age 68, Aigner finally managed to shoot himself. His funeral was conducted by the same Capuchin monk.

3. Plum Pudding

Émile Deschamps was a writer living in France in 1805. He was treated to some plum pudding by a M. de Fortgibu and liked it. 10 years later, Deschamps was in a restaraunt and wanted to order some plum pudding but the waiter informed him that the last order had already been served to another customer. He went over to the customer and was surprised to see that it was de Fortgibu.

Many years later in 1832 Émile Deschamps was at a diner, and was once again offered plum pudding. He recalled the earlier incident and told his friends that only de Fortgibu was missing to make the setting complete — and in the same instant the now senile de Fortgibu entered the room.

4. A curious case of plagiarism

In 1979, the German magazin, Das Besteran, ran a writing competition. Readers had to send in unusual but true stories. The winner, Walter Kellner of Munich, had his story published . He wrote about a time when he was flying a Cessna 421 between Sardinia and Sicily and encountered engine trouble at sea, landed in the water, spent some time in an emergency dinghy and was then rescued.

This story was spotted by an Austrian, also named Walter Kellner, who said that the German Kellner had plagiarized the story. The Austrian Kellner said that he had flown a Cessna 421 over the same sea, experienced engine trouble and was forced to land in Sardinia. It was essentially the same story, with a slightly different ending. The magazine checked both stories, and both turned out to be true, even though they were nearly identical.

5. Titan and the Titanic

Morgan Robertson's 1898 novella Futility had many parallels with the RMS Titanic disaster; the book concerned a fictional state-of-the-art ocean liner called Titan, which eventually collides with an iceberg on a calm April night whilst en route to New York, with many dying because of the lack of lifeboats.

Later, he wrote a book called Beyond the Spectrum, that described a future war fought with aircraft that carried "sun bombs". Incredibly powerful, one bomb could destroy a city, erupting in a flash of light that blinds all who look at it. The war begins in December, started by the Japanese with a sneak attack on Hawaii.

6. The Girl From Petrovka

The British actor Anthony Hopkins once landed a leading role in a film based on the book The Girl From Petrovka by George Feifer. A few days later, Hopkins travelled to London to buy a copy of the book, but failed to find any. Waiting at Leicester Square underground for his train home, he noticed a book apparently discarded on a bench. Incredibly, it was The Girl From Petrovka.

Two years later, in the middle of filming in Vienna, Hopkins was visited by George Feifer, the author. Feifer mentioned that he did not have a copy of his own book. He had lent the last one - containing his own annotations - to a friend who had lost it somewhere in London. With mounting astonishment, Hopkins handed Feifer the book he had found. 'Is this the one?' he asked, 'with the notes scribbled in the margins?' It was the same book.

7. Triple coincidences

One of the oddest coincidences ever recorded spans a period of nearly 200 years and involved three ships that sank in the Menai Strait of the coast of Wales. The first vessel went down on December 5, 1664, and of its 81 passengers, only one survived, and he was called Hugh Williams. On December 5, 1785, 121 years later, another ship sank in the Menai Strait, and again, all of the passenger perished except one – named Hugh Williams.

Two ships sinking in the same area on the same day of the month certainly is not earth-shattering, but when each of them have only one survivor of the same name, it gets a little eerie. But the story does not end at that.

On December 5, 1860, yet another ship, a small 25 passenger vessel, sank in the Menai Strait. And once again there was only one survivor – and once again his name was Hugh Williams.

The Restaurant-owner Umberto was shot dead the next day. So was King Umberto.

10. Twin boys, Twin lifes

The stories of identical twins' nearly identical lives are often astonishing, but perhaps none more so than those of identical twins born in Ohio. The twin boys were separated at birth, being adopted by different families. Unknown to each other, both families named the boys James.

And here the coincidences just begin. Both James grew up not even knowing of the other, yet both sought law-enforcement training, both had abilities in mechanical drawing and carpentry, and each had married women named Linda. They both had sons whom one named James Alan and the other named James Allan. The twin brothers also divorced their wives and married other women - both named Betty. And they both owned dogs which they named Toy. Forty years after their childhood separation, the two men were reunited to share their amazingly similar lives.

Note: This story came out in the January 1980 edition of Reader's Digest
