Schoolboy with 31 fingers and toes has surgery to remove his extra digits

by The Daily Mail

A six-year-old boy with 15 fingers and 16 toes has undergone surgery to remove his extra digits.

The unnamed Chinese child had four fingers on one hand and three on the other fused together.

He now has ten fingers and ten toes following a six-and-a-half hour operation at a hospital in Shenyang, Liaoning, to remove the surplus 11 digits.

The boy has a condition known as polydactyly, in which one of a variety of genetic disorders - which can be inherited, or are new mutations - gives rise to excess digits.

Ghost bike' memorial for dead biker

by Danson Chong

IT WOULD be hard to miss this 'ghost' bicycle - painted white all over - parked along Clementi Road when you walk, drive or cycle by.

But what is likely to get your attention are the words on the placard hanging from the bike, especially the ones printed in bold: 'In Memory Of Ben Mok'.

Mr Mok, 35, a freelance writer, was cycling with his friend, Mr Leong Poh Meng, 22, a chef, along Clementi Road last Sunday night when they were hit from behind by a suspected drunken driver.

Mr Mok, who never regained consciousness after the accident, died in hospital on Wednesday from head injuries.

The Sekolah Thinggi Perempuan Raja Isteri, STPRI closed again yesterday after the incident

In a statement the Ministry of Education said appropriate measures are taken to stabilise the situation plaguing the school.

Special emergency steps were mentioned as being issued as guidelines to teachers and students in the event of a recurrence.

Members of staff have been put in charge at various blocks of classrooms, and at assembly points for these classes designated, in case of emergency".

'Sembahyang Hajat' and recitation of the Al-Quran and the Surah Yassin are now conducted regularly as appropriate measures by the Ministry.

While finger pointing was a common reaction in incidents such as this, the more immediate need is to support the efforts undertaken by the school, advised the ministry.

The Ministry requested in its statement for the understanding and full support of parents and members of the public to work together so that teaching and learning can proceed with minimum interruption at the school.

Meanwhile, Borneo Bulletin Sunday hotline has been ringing non-stop with distraught parents inquiring about the situation.

Yesterday as students assembled in the hall for a scheduled religious talk as well as to recite the Surah Yaasin, some twelve students showed signs of hysteria gradually becoming uncontrollable.

The Sunday Bulletin at the scene to cover the planned religious talk was told by school staff manning the entrance that no one was allowed in.

They said only parents and guardians were allowed to go in as the mystery phenomena had struck the students again.

The parents were allowed in to the school compound to collect their children who were waiting for them as school closed earlier than schedule yesterday after the incident.

The Deputy Minister of Education Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad was scheduled to attend the talk.

Indonesian Villages Cashing In On 'Hobbit' Craze

"You want to see a living hobbit?" a guard at the cave whispered. "I can take you there but it will cost 500,000 rupiah ($55)."

Kornelis Jaman was referring to the dwarf cave-dwellers, whose skeletal remains were discovered in the cave. Scientists believe they went extinct 17,000 years ago, but villagers with an eye for profit insist the hobbits hung around until at least 300 years ago and their descendants are still living in nearby villages.

The "Ebu Gogo" or "the grandmother who eats everything," has for generations played the role of villain in Flores folklore. They are described as big-eyed, hairy creatures who came down the mountain to steal, crops, fruit and liquor.

The discovery of the remains in the Liang Bua cave in 2003 put the Flores excavation on the map. Suddenly, a steady stream of fossil enthusiasts was turning up, and hobbit tours began.

Rampasasa, a tiny farming village just a few miles from the cave, became a popular stop. Supposedly there were as many as two dozen tiny people living there.

America's Greatest Ghost Story

by Chris Capps

Picture is (C) copyright to Haxan Films

The Blair Witch Project was one of the most highly successful hoaxes by a film maker in order to bring a buzz around a fictional topic by touting it as real. After the film was released in theatres, search parties were assembled to look for the abandoned cabin in the woods, and the film's lost creators. Of course this soon turned out to be merely a piece of fiction. But it was based around a legend that was based in history. Kate, also known as The Bell Witch, was the primary basis for the film's supernatural background.

In the years between 1871 and 1821 there was a mysterious witch who tormented one pioneer family in Tennessee named Kate. The historical records of the event have backed up the claims by historians that this was indeed America's strangest ghost story for almost 200 years.

It all began, as many frontier stories do with one man moving his family west in order to cut out a new living away from the ever growing crowds of people on the Eastern coast.

As john Bell settled into one Tennessee community in Robertson county, he purchased a small plot of land to live on and farm. As time progressed, his land ownership grew and soon he held over 300 acres, which he began setting out to cultivate for farming. As life settled into a state of prosperous normalcy, the Bell family had several children, and became prominent members of the local church.

Then one day, as John was strolling through his fields he came across a mysterious creature with the body of a dog, but the head of a rabbit sitting near his corn. Alarmed by the mysterious creature's size and appearance John shot the animal several times, but as it lay bleeding it vanished in front of him.

Casually, Bell reloaded his gun satisfied that the creature had been dealt with and went home for dinner. That night there was a mysterious thumping sound along the exterior walls of their cabin as though something were trying to get in through the walls. The first night was harrowing, but was soon followed every night afterward with more thumping sounds. As the mysterious events continued, the Bells found themselves being flung from their beds by invisible hands and having the covers ripped from them in their sleep.

The children complained that they could hear rats chewing at the edges of their beds. Soon this was followed by whispering voices that sung mysterious indecipherable hymns or cantrips. Then Betsy, the Bell's youngest daughter, would feel an invisible entity slap her and pull her hair leaving bruises and moving Betsy to tears. It was only then that John Bell found it necessary to tell his neighbors, who spent a night in the house and suffered similar disturbances.

The story of the Bell Witch continues for years after this initial first wave of encounters, even incorporating into it several witnesses who testified under oath on the veracity of their claims about this supernatural entity. But who was Kate? And why did she find it so necessary to torment the Bell family? Prepare your nerves for part two of what many people call America's Greatest Ghost Story.

General Tomoyuki Yamashita's hidden treasures

Yamashita's gold, also referred to as the Yamashita treasure, is the name given to the alleged loot stolen in Southeast Asia by Japanese forces during World War II and hidden in caves, tunnels and underground complexes in the Philippines. It is named for the Japanese General Tomoyuki Yamashita, nicknamed "The Tiger of Malaya". Though accounts that the treasure remains hidden in Philippines have lured treasure hunters from around the world for over fifty years, its existence is disputed by most experts. The rumored treasure has been the subject of a complex lawsuit that was filed in a Hawaiian state court in 1988 involving Philippine treasure hunter, Rogelio Roxas, and former Philippines president, Ferdinand Marcos.

Prominent among those arguing for the existence of Yamashita's gold are Sterling Seagrave and Peggy Seagrave, who have written two books relating to the subject: The Yamato Dynasty: the Secret History of Japan's Imperial Family (2000) and Gold Warriors: America's Secret Recovery of Yamashita's Gold (2003). The Seagraves contend that looting was organized on a massive scale, by both yakuza gangsters such as Yoshio Kodama, and the highest levels of Japanese society, including Emperor Hirohito.[4] The Japanese government intended that loot from Southeast Asia would finance Japan's war effort.[4] The Seagraves allege that Hirohito appointed his brother, Prince Yasuhito Chichibu, to head a secret organization called Kin no yuri ("Golden Lily"), for this purpose. It is purported that many of those who knew the locations of the loot were killed during the war, or later tried by the Allies for war crimes and executed or incarcerated. Yamashita himself was executed for war crimes on February 23, 1946.

The stolen property reportedly included many different kinds of valuables looted from banks, depositories, temples, churches, other commercial premises, mosques, museums and private homes. It takes its name from General Tomoyuki Yamashita, who assumed command of Japanese forces in the Philippines in 1944.

According to various accounts, the loot was initially concentrated in Singapore, and later transported to the Philippines. The Japanese hoped to ship the treasure from the Philippines to the Japanese home islands after the war ended. As the Pacific War progressed, Allied submarines and aircraft inflicted increasingly heavy losses on Japanese merchant shipping. Some ships carrying loot back to Japan were sunk.

The Seagraves and a few others have claimed that United States military intelligence operatives located much of the loot; colluded with Hirohito and other senior Japanese figures to conceal its existence, and; used it to finance US covert intelligence operations around the world during the Cold War. These rumors have inspired many hopeful treasure hunters, but most experts and Philippine historians say there is no credible evidence behind them.

Many individuals and consortia, both Philippine and foreign, continue to search for treasure sites. A number of accidental deaths, injuries and financial losses incurred by treasure hunters have been reported.

Horror List, 13 Ghost and Monsters from Philippines

1. Aswang (Female Vampire Ghost)

Aswang is an intelligent supernatural creature that takes roots in Philippines as early as the 16th century. The creature is so fearful that some elders in Philippines refuse to even mention the word ‘Aswang’. There isn’t a clear definition to which class of monsters the Aswang belong to, but they are often depicted as a pretty-faced, fair skinned maiden during the day and transform into hideous vampire in the night with red bulging eyes, disheveled hair and crooked wings. An Aswang can be very deceptive and shy when they are not hunting. They will behave like a normal person and even hold a normal job during the day.

2. Amalanhig (Vampire)

A vampire native of the Philippines, more common in Visayan mythology and folklore, particularly among Hiligaynon speaking groups.

Amalanhig looks almost like a human being except that it has longer upper canines. For Aswangs who were not successful in transferring their monstrosity, they rise from their graves to killing humans by biting their necks hence, becoming into Amalanhig

A good way to escape from an Amalanhig is to run in zigzag direction as an Amalanhig can but only walk in straight direction as their body is stiff. High places out of their reach or climbing of tress as well as lakes and waters are also suggested as Amalanhig are scared of deep bodies of waters. Erm… so Amalanhig is not that scary after all.

3. Langsuir (Alternate Vampire)

The Langsuir or Langsuyar is a vampire that originates from women who had laboring sickness as a result of suffering the death of their children and who themselves died afterwards.

The Langsuir appears as a woman with long nails and flying black hair. She may also shape shift into a night owl with long claws. Just like the Pontianak, the Langsuir also sucks the blood of living infants. The Langsuir can be stopped or, more precisely, 'domesticated' if the right means are adopted. If a Langsuir is captured, cut her nails away and stuff them into the hole of her neck, she will become a tame, and indistinguishable from an ordinary woman. Probably, you can marry her afterward.

Cases have been known, indeed, in which she has become a wife and a mother, until she was allowed to dance at a village merry-making, when she at once reverted to her ghostly form, and flew off into the dark and gloomy forest from whence she came.

4. Agta/Kapre (Tree Monster)

Kapre (also known as Agta in the Visayan dialect (Cebu)) is a Philippine mythical creature that could be characterized as a tree demon, but with more human characteristics.

It is described as being a tall (7 to 9 ft), brown, hairy male with a beard. Kapres are normally described as smoking a big tobacco pipe, whose strong smell would attract human attention. The term kapre comes from the Arabic "kaffir" meaning a non-believer in Islam. The early Arabs and the Moors used it to refer to the non-Muslim Dravidians who were dark-skinned.

The term was later brought to the Philippines by the Spanish who had previous contact with the Moors. Some historians speculate that the legend was propagated by the Spanish to prevent Filipinos from assisting any escaped African slaves.

The Kapre is a unique Filipino monster because he doesn’t steal fetuses, eat people or cut them up. The Kapre simply enjoys scaring children.

5. Tiyanak (Demon Baby)

Tiyanak are babies who died before receiving baptism rites. After death, they go to a place known as Limbo, a chamber of Hell where non baptized dead people fall into, and transformed into evil spirits. These phantasms return into the mortal realm in the form of goblins to eat living victims. The Tiyanak can also be the offspring between a demon and a human.

6. Duwende (Dwarf)

These are tiny human-like creatures that live underground. There are two main types of Duwende: the Duwende puti who are supposedly kind creatures who bring about good luck, or the Duwende itim who are mean folk that like to play pranks on humans. They generally keep to themselves and only interact with humans when their homes are disturbed. For example, a kindly farmer who takes care of his plot may be rewarded by the duwende puti with a greater abundance of crops than usual. However, someone who kicks an anthill on or near the home of a Duwendi itim will be punished with a myriad of ailments from twisted mouth to swollen testicles. The best way to avoid Duwende of any kind is to say “Tabi-tabi po” aloud before entering what might be their space.

7. Amomongo (Big Foot)

In the Philippine folklore cryptic, Amomongo has a size of man and ape like with long nails. Typically known to be as wild monkey that lives in caves near the foot of Mt. Kanlaon by the people La Castellana in Negros Occidental.

There has been a sighting in which Elias Galvez and Salvador Aguilar reported to Mayor Alberto Nicor and the police that they were separately attacked by a “hairy creature with long nails,” on the nights of June 9 and 10, 2008, in Cabungbungan, Brgy. Sag-ang, La Castellana, Philippines, that was believed to be an Amomongo.

8. Sigbin (Deformed Animal)

Sigbin according to mythological descriptions is said to come out at night to suck the blood of victims from their shadows. The creature walks backward with its head lowered between its hind legs. It resembles a hornless goat, emits a very nauseating smell and possesses a pair of very large ears which are capable of clapping like a pair of hands. It is also claimed to issue forth from its lair during Holy Week, looking for children that it will kill for the heart, which is made into an amulet.

9. Tikbalang (Horse Demon)

The Tikbalang or Tigbalang is a half-man and half-horse creature. It has a horse's head, the body of a human but with the feet of the horse. It travels at night to rape female mortals. The raped women will then give birth to more Tikbalang or Anggitay.

Anggitay is the female counterpart of Tikbalang. Anggitay is a female centaur, sometimes also said to have a unicorn horn in the middle of her forehead. They fancy precious gemstones, and jewelries just like any other women.

the Tikbalang is considered a nuisance but generally harmless. Travelers can easily stop the pranks by turning their own shirt inside out and asking the Tikbalang to stop bothering them.

10. Bakunawa (Sea Serpent)

A Bakunawa is a gigantic sea serpent in Philippine mythology, with enormous mouth and a red tongue, whiskers, gills and small wires by its side as well as 2 sets of wings. Besides being known by the name of Bakunawa, it is also known as Bakonawa, Baconaua, or Bakonaua.

Bakunawa is believed to be the god of the underworld as is the one highly responsible for the cause of eclipses. It is also said to be a demonic sea dragon that is a man eater as well as moon eater base on legends and myths.

11. Kumakatok (Grin Reapers)

In the middle of the night, a knock will sound at the door and outside are three hooded figures, one a pretty, young woman and two elderly men. There are no stories of how the group was formed or where they originated but tales about them have popped up all over the Philippines and with more frequency around the time of outbreaks.

Legend has it that a visit from them is an omen that someone in the family will soon die. There are no paintings or hangings that can keep them at bay. Leaving the door unanswered does not help either. They simply knock and leave and then someone would still die shortly thereafter.

12. Kaperosa (White Lady)

The White Lady is a specific kind of ghost or Multo. Most Multo tend to be family members who come back to certain relatives to take care of unfinished business but the White Lady is unique in that she doesn’t appear to only her relatives or even to specific people she knew when alive. Many sightings have reported her in empty buildings, near forests and on cliffs. However, she is most commonly reported seen along Balete Drive in Quezon City. She was a young lady who was raped and killed by two Japanese soldiers during WWII. While there haven’t been stories of the White Lady being a purposefully malicious being, she has been the reported as the cause of more than a few car accidents by drivers who look in their rearview mirror and see a young lady in the backseat wearing a white dress. Sure, some strange, unknown lady sitting in your backseat is bad enough but the White Lady is also said to have no face or a face covered in blood.

13. Matruculan (Fetish Ghoul)

The Matruculan is one of many Pinoy creatures who attack pregnant women. This particular creature first impregnates a virgin before coming back later to kill the woman and eat the fetus (although some stories say that both mom and baby are eaten). Some stories claim that the woman is not a virgin but rather married and already pregnant. To protect the mother and child, the husband must swing a Balisong or butterfly knife, above the woman’s belly while she is in labor. This leads one to wonder: which is scarier, an invisible mythological creature, or the father of your unborn child brandishing a knife above your abdomen?

Tajik boy captures UFO on mobile phone camera

A Tajik teenager quickly became a local hero after he had shown a 50-second footage of a "flying saucer" captured with a built-in camera on his mobile phone.

Dozens of residents of Khujand in northern Tajikistan have reported sightings of an unidentified flying object over the city on March 22, but only Bakhtovar Khurshedzod, a 9th grade school student, was smart enough to film the unusual event.

According to the teenager, he was playing with his younger brother in the yard when a strange object appeared in the sky, flying soundlessly.

"It [the UFO] was red and it was surrounded by white light...It was moving slowly toward the mountains, then suddenly accelerated and disappeared...It was not a kite or a plane, that's for sure," the Asia-Plus news agency quoted the schoolboy as saying.

Russia Parish Orthodox Church Exorcism

Source: Paranormal.about.com

A sixteen-year-old girl sits in a chair in a Russian Orthodox Church. She is being held down by her mother. Light filters in from high windows and the air is thick with tension and the smell of holy incense. A priest stands over her reading the rite of exorcism. The girl squirms in her mother’s arms, groaning and growling as if the priest’s words were a torment to her mind and soul. The girl struggles violently, her groans becoming inhuman howls and deep, guttural moans of psychological pain. Then she lashes out at the priest, and in a voice that seems not to be her own, spits words of defiance.

This is not a scene from a Hollywood production. This is a partial description of an actual exorcism that took place in a Russian parish on May 1, 2004.

The demonic voice sounds like something right off the soundtrack of The Exorcist. Was the girl imitating the Linda Blair character in the movie? Eugene, who has been assisting in these exorcisms for several years, does not think so. Those movies are not well known in Russia, he says.

Although the exorcism lasted about a half hour, Eugene says that it was not a success, and he didn’t know if the girl and her mother would seek further treatment.

Mass Villagers Rush to the Rescue of Possessed Women in Thailand

Author: Jakkapong Rawiwan
February 5, 2010

The women, Daeng Somwai, 36, from Ban Kud Or and Kancahan Wangchalee, 31, from Ban Khok Si, displayed symptoms of phop-ghost haunting: trembling bodies, speaking in tongues and suddenly switching from laughing to crying and screaming. Relatives took them to Wat Donyanang, where the abbot is well known for his exorcisms.

At the temple, surrounded by holy thread, about 300 residents of the two villages attended the ritual. Earlier, a spirit medium had gone into a trance and declared 100 evil spirits were bent on harming local residents. They were advised to bring their relatives to join the ritual and remain within the protection of the holy thread.

The exorcism then proceeded, with monks praying and the haunted women being sprinkled with holy water until the 100 evil spirits were summoned and captured in 100 sections of bamboo. The two women then returned to normal.

Abbot Phra Khru Prasutthamasunthorn said this period had seen evil spirits roaming free to harm people, especially those collecting things from the forest at night, because black-magic items had been released.
People in the Northeast believe phop ghosts come from practitioners of black magic, who use it to harm others. They are then punished by the spirits of their teachers and become phop ghosts for breaching prohibitions against "improper use" of black magic.

Grieving Relatives Discover 'Dead' Man's Heart Still Beating

2010-01-12
CHENGDU: Medics at a hospital in Neijiang, Sichuan province, have come under fire after declaring the victim of a traffic accident dead and sending the man's body to a funeral home when his heart was still beating.

However, Zhang Houming, a construction worker, died about an hour after relatives discovered the error at the funeral home last Friday. He was 46.

Zhang was pronounced dead the first time after his motorcycle collided with a bus as he returned home with his 23-year-old son Zhang Haibo, at about 2:30 pm that day. The son, who worked with his father at the same construction site in Lingjia town, was knocked unconscious in the collision.

An ambulance arrived at the scene about two hours later, and its driver blamed traffic for the delay.

Zhang's colleague surnamed You said it took him less than an hour to get to the work site from his house, which is located in the city center, and using his electric bike.

Cryptozoology-Flower found in Vietnam

The ornamental apricot tree of Mr Dinh Tho in Da Nang City is now in bloom. The strange thing is that all the flowers on the tree have more than 100 petals, while other apricot flowers have 6-9 petals only.

The apricot flowers with 100 petals in Dinh Tho’s garden
Mr Tho said that this is a ha hong diep – a kind of apricot. The tree has been flowering for three years, and the flowers have 90-100 petals, and sometimes they have 120 petals.

The tree-trunk of the apricot tree looks normal, like other apricot trees in Mr Tho’s garden, which consists of 60 trees. All the apricot flowers in his garden are big and consist of many petals, making them look like daisies.

Vo Van Tien, former director of the city department of agriculture and rural development, also said that he had never seen flowers with as many petals as Mr Tho’s. He said that every apricot flower just has 6-7 or nine petals at maximum.

Travelers, beware the Philippines Tikbalang (Horse Demon)

The male version of this Horse Demon is known as Tikbalang or Tigbalang is a half-man and half-horse creature.

Anggitay always appear during rains where the sky is clear.

They cause travelers to lose their way particularly in mountainous or forest areas. In northern regions, the Tikbalang is considered a nuisance but generally harmless. Travelers can easily stop the pranks by turning their own shirt inside out and asking the Tikbalang to stop bothering them.

The stories of Tikbalang from southern regions paint the creature as a much more sinister monster. When angered (and he angers easily), the Tikbalang will stamp you to death. To tame the beast, the person must pluck the one of three unusually long hairs found in its mane. After that, the Tikbalang is your slave.

Tikbalangs are very playful with people, and they usually make a person imagine things that aren't real. Sometimes a Tikbalang will drive a person crazy. Legends say that when rain falls while the sun is shining, pair of Tikbalangs is being wed. (Tikibalang and Anggitay)

Since horses only arrived in the Philippine archipelago during the Spanish invasion (thus, the borrowed term 'Kabayo'), there is a theory that the image of a half-horse, half-man creature was propagated by the conquistadors to keep the natives afraid of the night. There are stories claiming that the Tikbalang are actually half-bird, half-man creatures, much like the Japanese Tengu.

Asia's Lost Treasure of WW2 is in Philippines

During the Japanese occupation of Asia of world war 2 whereby Japan was conquering much lands of asia as part of their empire led by general Yamashita, much of the treasures across of asia that was found was being send to one particular place for keeping.

This place eventually became the place whereby any treasures that the Japanese has found would be send to this common point of storage for the Japanese empire. When they came to know of the existance of the person behind and the reason why, it brought about many treasure seekers and hunters and eventually this Japanese soldier was finally being brought out to the outside world. He was too shocked and could not belived that war was lost. It was something unaccpetable to him.

Although he no longer return to the forest anymore after learnning what has happened after so many years, the secrets of the hidden treasures of asia was not being revealed. It was even said that he commited suiside to join his fellow comrades.

Orel Region Father Valdimir Russia Exorcism

Source: Paranormal.about.com

Is the world becoming more evil? Does Satan have a firmer grip on humanity today than he ever has? Many people believe the answer is yes, which may explain the dramatic rise in exorcisms being performed in countries all around the world and Russia.

Father Valdimir in the Orel region of Russia depicts an exorcism being performed on a man in his early twenties for about 5½ hours in Moscow. The young man had been plagued by disembodied voices and depression. His family sought help from a psychiatrist, to no effect, and then an occultist, which may have made matters worse.

Then the young man's aunt brought him to a deliverance ceremony, in which the clergy seeks to rid congregation members of any demonic influence. During this ceremony, as the priest read off the names of various demons, the young man apparently responded to the "Spirit of Death" name – or rather, it is believed that the demon inside of him responded. The attempted exorcism then performed is seen in the following video.

Tiyanak - The Terrifying Philippines Ghost Lurking in the Forest

Tiyanak or Impakto is another mythical creature in the Philippine Mythology similar to Greek mythological siren that lures prey with its voice. People get drawn into the deep woods to rescue the baby when they heard the sounds of baby cries. Some stories say the person wanders aimlessly in search for the baby and becomes hopelessly lost. Other stories claim that the person eventually finds a baby in the middle of the woods. The baby suddenly transform into a hideous monster with large pointed teeth when being found. It then eats the person and transforms back to a baby to await its next victim. With either version, the story ends with “… and he was never found again.”

The Tiyanak can also be the offspring of a woman and a demon. It can also be the aborted fetus, which comes to life to take revenge on its mother. Tiyanak are very vengeful creatures. Most Tiyanaks are said to live in forests. If they see a human, they transform into what looks like a normal baby. When the person notices the Tiyanak and comes near to take a look at it, that's when the Tiyanak changes back to its true form and eats its prey.

Cambodia’s Khmer Magic War With Thailand

Author: Moeun Chhean Nariddh
News backdate: 12 August, 2008

The Nation newspaper in Bangkok reported that many Thai residents in Si Sa Ket province which borders Cambodia wore yellow to help protect Thailand from black-magic spells cast by Khmer “wizards” who met at Preah Vihear Temple during the solar eclipse early this month.

On August 1, Bun Rany, the wife of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, led Buddhist monks and soldiers to the ancient Hindu temple to call upon their ancestors to protect the temple.

The Nation wrote that Thai media reports said that the mysterious black-magic spells by Khmer wizards would not only protect the temple but also weaken Thailand. Meanwhile, some Thai astrologers were reported to have urged local people to wear yellow to deflect the spells.

Whether the Thai astrologers considered the solemnly organized prayer at the temple Cambodia’s cast of magic spells on Thailand, the use of magic by Cambodians has prevailed for centuries.

According to the Khmer-language book “The Tale of Ancient History,” in 1502 under the reign of King Chan Raja there was a Khmer warrior named Moeung who fearlessly fought against Siam, as Thailand was known in the past.

Unable to bear Siamese colonial dominance, the Khmer king ordered his men to kill the Siamese king’s son who was controlling Cambodia. The Siamese king found out and sent troops to arrest King Chan Raja and his court. But Chan Raja’s lady-in-waiting, Pen, escaped with army chief Moeung, his wife and four children.

Japanese World War II ship shelled pterosaur caves

by R.K.

Three days ago, I received an email from R.K. (anonymous), of the Manus Island area of Papua New Guinea. (We starting communicating earlier this month.) The nocturnal flying creatures that he described to me–I believe they are ropens–were common and were dangerous to local fishermen previous to the early 1940’s, when their numbers declined. In these northern islands, the creature is called “kor.”

Here is part of R.K.’s account of the Japanese retaliation against the creatures that had attacked them:

‘Black Magic’ involved in the Recent Thailand Blood Spilling Incident?

This is the popular incident of Blood Spill incident of Thailand recenlty.

Bangkok - Red-dressed Thai protesters on Tuesday collected their own blood, planning to spill it at the government's gates in a symbolic gesture as they stepped up protests demanding snap elections.

Hundreds of "Red Shirts", loyal to deposed premier Thaksin Shinawatra, were queuing up in Bangkok to offer a small amount of their blood in an unusual show of their determination, AFP reporters witnessed.

It is the latest move in an anti-government street demonstration that has drawn tens of thousands of protesters to the streets of the capital since it officially began at the weekend amid tight security.

BLOOD BLOOD BLOOD!!!

And quote from BBC news, we are expecting some 'Black Magic' actions involved...

The leaders of the red-shirted United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) created ceremonies to spill blood at the entrances to the seat of government, it was intended as a powerful curse.

Leaders including Thaksin are said to have consulted astrologers
It could also be seen as an act to counter the perceived illegitimacy of that government - and Mr Abhisit who leads it - when the blood was spilled outside his home.

That is not how the government chose to see it, of course.

"The world sees some people in Thailand as believers in black magic and as uncivilised," said Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, who is in charge of national security.

"Blood is a symbol of violence and hurling it at the house is saddening. The prime minister is speechless over this incident," a minister in the prime minister's office, Satit Wongnhongtaey, told reporters.

But just as the red rallies were kicking off at the beginning of the week, one local paper chose to give most of its page two over to a feature about a veteran policeman proudly showing off his collection of amulets and the supernatural forces he calls into play to help solve crimes.

Days of the week are associated with particular colours, certain numbers are significant and layers of symbolism abound.

One red-shirt protester told the BBC he felt his donation of blood was akin to forging a bond of blood brotherhood with fellow protesters as ancient warriors have done.

But the point of politicians employing certain rituals, Drs Pasuk and Baker say, is to harness and accumulate power.

"The ability to influence events through supernatural forces is a form of power."

Black Magic? Black Magic?? Black Magic???

European Encounters of Chinese Sea Serpent In South East Asia

It was during the 1700s and 1800s during the days of the european colonisation as well as explorations and discovery that the early europeans came by sea route into south east asia and other parts of asia.

It was being frequently claimed by many Europeans of those days that Chinese Sea Serpents was being spotted in the South China Seas and Straits of Melacca.

The sea serpent is as common in oriental folklore as in its occidental counterparts. In China the legends merge into purely mythical accounts of sea dragons, which have the disconcerting talent of shape shifting, but the more credible tales seem to describe something very similar to the sea serpent, in China called the Kiao or Shan.

The Shan is the Eastern Sea Dragon that unlike the Kiao, who is a lake dweller, lives in the sea. The Shan is described as serpentine but with ears, horns and a red mane. Until recently the Malays and Chinese believed sea serpents were responsible for ambergris, which they call 'dragon spittle'. In the History of the Ming Dynasty, a Chinese author describes a place called Dragon Spittle Island in the Sea of Lambri

In the 19th century many oriental sea serpents were seen by Europeans. Some were shown to be frauds or hysterical exaggerations, but several accounts cannot be easily dismissed - though, as always, many witnesses regretted having gone public. The Straits Times Overland Joumal carried a lively correspondence on the matter. Particularly dramatic was the encounter in September 1876 between the SS Nestor and a 'sea serpent' in the Straits of Malacca which seemed rather different to most, though very Chinese.

There is in the Far East a well - known living 'dragon' species, named the Komodo Dragon because its primary (almost its only) habitat is Indonesia's Komodo Island. This giant monitor lizard usually grows to about 12ft (3.7m), but speeimens twice as long have been reported. The creatures migrate by sea between Komodo and three other Indonesian islands. Specimens washed out to sea may well have given rise to some sea - monster tales, but none of great importance.

The appearance of the fish follows Saturday's destructive 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile and the January 12 tremors in Haiti, which claimed an estimated 200,000 lives.

A quake with a magnitude of 6.4 has also struck southern Taiwan.

This rash of tectonic movements around the Pacific "Rim of Fire" is heightening concern that Japan - the most earthquake-prone country in the world - is next in line for a major earthquake.

Interview with a national serviceman on a paranormal encounter

by Joan Seth

I recently heard about this real life encounter from a friend of mine, who's a regular officer in the Singapore Armed Forces. Apparently it happened to one of his subordinates not too long ago. I did not hesitate and thus quickly conducted this email interview through my friend.

All names and locations shall remain confidential for reasons of privacy.

AP: Can you start off by introducing yourself?

NJ: I am XXX, currently serving my second year in National Service, in XXX camp.

AP: So can you tell us how this encounter happened?

NJ: It happened about a month ago. I was on guard duty at that time. I remember it was somewhere between the time of 3 to 4 am when I saw something quite extraordinary.

AP: What were you doing at that time?

NJ: I was fully awake. Everything was normal. I was sitting alone in the
guardroom.

AP: Can you describe what happened next?

NJ: I saw a blue light flashing from outside the camp. The guardroom is situated next to the main gates, of which the main road runs beside it. The light was coming from the trees opposite the main gates. I remember it was very bright and I couldn't look directly into it.

AP: Did you hear anything? Or was there any smell?

NJ: No. I didn't.

AP: How were you feeling at this time?

NJ: Initially it felt strange. I was worried something might happen. I soon
realized that it could be something supernatural and that made me scared.

AP: What happened next?

NJ: The light moved from a right to left direction. Then I saw something even weirder.

AP: What was it that you saw?

NJ: I saw a shadow. It was very well defined and outlined. The light seemed to be coming from this shadow.

AP: Did you mean to say you saw a person?

NJ: No. I was very sure it was not a person. I saw a very well defined outline of a shadow. It was too nicely shaped, I began to realize it was not a real person. It looked almost like a prop or a cut cardboard piece of a human.

AP: What happened next?

NJ: The light went off.

AP: And then?

NJ: There was nothing more. No shadow, no sound. Nothing.

AP: How did you feel next?

NJ: It felt really weird. I wasn't so sure if it was a human or was it friendly or
not.

AP: Did you inform anyone else of this at that point of time?

NJ: No. I didn't. The other guards were all asleep. I doubt they would believe me anyway.

AP: What did you think the thing was?

NJ: I'm not so sure. Initially I thought it could be someone from the PUB, checking the water in the reservoir. But at 3 to 4 am in the morning? That's why I didn't think it was a human. I now believe it could be an alien or some extraterrestrial being.

AP: An alien?

NJ: Yes. I believe the light beam could be a mark of its technology. It could be here doing surveillance or investigation at the reservoir.

AP: So do you think it had good intentions?

NJ: I honestly don't know.

AP: Do you think it will appear again?

NJ: I can't say for sure. I have not seen it again since. I really hope it doesn't though. Although I wasn't freaked out or anything, but I do not want to have such an encounter again.

AP: Thank you for your time, XXX.

NJ: Thanks.

Your 10 Haunted Place in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

kAuthor: Zacklyraw

Some gorgeous places in Kuala Lumpur with possible spirits haunting them.
When you visit Kuala Lumpur, check out these places with histories of hauntings -- if you dare!

1. Victoria's Institution
How could you not see this on the list? Come on... at 116 years old, it's bound to have some ghoulies running around. Most famously, and this is uncertain for every source we've looked at or heard from varies, it was used by the Japanese soldiers during WWII as HQ/execution area/ marching ground etc. I'm sure you know at least one V.I. boy who'll enlighten you with various stories.

2. Highland Towers
This just had to be on the list lah. As far as fame goes, this is like the Richard Gere of eerie sites in KL. In 1993, one of 3 blocks collapsed which led to 48 deaths. Besides being surrounded by overgrown plants, the unkept condition of the buildings just make it perfect when it comes to haunts. They do say that ghosts do enjoy residing in "dirty" areas. Only one way to find out...

3. Kajang Highschool
Maybe this isn't as famous as it should be because V.I. takes the cake in central KL. Similarly, this highschool was occupied by the Japanese for similar reasons. Students and ex-students from that area, will gladly verify the spookies.

4. Abandoned bungalows in Bangsar
Bangsar-ians will not thank me for this. Alas, the world wants to know. Apparently, (and I use 'apparently' cause the story started with just one bungalow and soon become a whole stretch of bungalows) there are a few haunted houses in Bangsar with all sorts of background stories. Most notably some guard went bonkers and murdered the kids and dumped the bodies into the water tank. Cool.
